Godfrey design build recently gutted and fully remodeled my kitchen. It was a small galley kitchen and I wanted to make it feel as roomy as possible. I could not be happier with the outcome. From design to punchlist, everything went as planned with no surprises or disappointments. The project came in on time and on budget. Subcontractors were all great, very professional. After meeting with several contractors we are very pleased that we chose Godfrey Design-Build for our project. Pat and his team helped us renovate our basement that included a 1/2 bath, wet bar, media room/game room, along with new windows and doors. From the beginning the entire team was fantastic and clear communicators. We always knew where we were in the project, who was scheduled to arrive and if there were any issues, delays, or decisions that needed to be made. Every member of the team, including sub-contractors, were always prompt and very responsive to any questions or concerns we had, no matter how small. We had construction done on our house a couple of years ago, and although we are happy with the end result, the process of getting there was at times very stressful. perplexing and frustrating. I actually kept notes on what happened during our previous construction experience, as a warning to not go down the path without deep contemplation and self-reflection. When we entertained the idea of embarking on a new renovation project, and we were interviewing contractors, my wife and I were very cautious about who we'd pick. Patrick from Godfrey Design and Build stood out from the crowd, and so we took a deep breath and said, "yes!" Godfrey Design and Build, and their crew of tradespeople and master builder are a cut above what we had previously experienced. They are smart, resourceful hard working and very talented. Here are three examples comparing our previous renovation vs our current one with Godfrey Design and Build. Other contractors: They arrive in the morning, look around the site for what they will need that day. Then they all pile into a truck and go up to Homedepot to procure it for hours. Sometimes this happened several times a day. Godfrey D&B: They arrive in the morning, and everything they need for the day was magically on-site, and they get straight to work. Other contractors: Every time there is a little problem about something, work stops, and they have to contact the homeowner to figure out what should be done about it. Godfrey D&B: They are always solving problems a few steps ahead of what they are doing at the moment. They are experienced enough to deal with issues that don't actually require a homeowner's input. I think we were brought in on one or two decisions during the whole project and they already knew which solution was the best. I guess they just wanted to make us feel involved . Other contractors: Sometimes, it takes one, two or even three times to install/uninstall something that is on a blueprint and has instructions, just to get it right. During our past renovation that added 3 days to our project. Godfrey D&B: There were no redos during their renovation. They followed their schedule. Based on my past renovation experience, I was keeping a keen eye on what was going on. It quickly became apparent that my vigilance wasn't required with Godfrey Design and Build. Instead of dreading the experience as a reluctant participant, I began to enjoy it as a happy spectator. Godfrey Design and Build renovated a very old and decrepit sunroom on the back of our house. It was almost a full tear-down. They transformed a room that was mostly a storage room for our lawn furniture during the winter months into an exceptional space that gives us so much joy that we spend most of our time there. Can't say enough about the team at Godfrey Design-Build. Pat was responsive and helpful and had endless reserves of patience with my many changes during the design phase. He just got it. His renderings saved me a lot of heartache as I could see what I had initially envisioned was not going to work. More importantly, Pat consistently conveyed his desire to be sure I got what I wanted while simultaneously guiding me to making better design decisions. He remembered when I was concerned about a design option and during the construction phase would check in with me. Couldn't have asked for more in that regard. His relationships with his subcontractors was readily on display as he was able to get them to show up on-time, complete the work, return when necessary. Clearly, he has chosen well when it comes to people to work with. His master craftsman, Fred, was also a delight - funny, respectful, pleasant and super talented. Fred's eye for design was as reliable as Pat's and watching them work together made me feel like I was in good hands. Fred is an artist and it showed in every aspect of his work. He is also a gentleman and it showed in every aspect of his communication with us. We worked together during the period of social distancing and crew members wore a mask during any interaction. I never had to ask. Both Pat and Fred were ahead of the game with how inspection delays might impact progress, worked with the inspectors to get the work done while adhering to the guideline in place at the time. They also kept us current on the ever changing plans and requirements during the pandemic. They could not have been more professional and more humane at the same time. We've had such a good experience with Pat, Fred and crew that we've added 4 good sized projects to our home improvement plans for the year. We hired Godfrey Design-Build to construct a main bedroom suite with full bath and separate laundry room, a 500 square foot addition. The entire process was a pleasant experience, something I never thought I'd write about a construction project. The quality of workmanship at every level from initial design to project finishing was outstanding; even the neighbors have been impressed. We would like to strongly recommend Godfrey Design-Build to anyone contemplating a construction or renovation project. We had a need and feared the horror stories regarding such projects. We wanted to increase space and usefulness of an old kitchen, dining room, and unfinished porch. From initial contact, things were different with Godfrey Design-Build. Pat was easy going and comfortable to work with. He is very knowledgeable but listened and worked with our ideas. Pat offered advice and multiple layout options, taking in to mind what we wanted and what could work best. Costs were transparent and spread out through project. The project was very large, tearing down to studs and rebuilding. Throughout process we were kept informed. We felt like we were part of team with our opinions and changes accepted happily. Job took a few months to complete. Pat's team is top notch. Fred the master carpenter truly is a master. He knows his profession and work is top quality. Fred was onsite almost everyday working hard as well as coordinating all activities. He kept everything on track and on time. Team and subcontractors worked tirelessly and were always pleasant. Our result was a new large perfectly laid out combination kitchen dining area, plus a bathroom/laundry. We are so excited with our new space. Who can you trust? For us, that was the overriding concern, and Pat Godfrey (Godfrey Design-Build) has truly earned ours. Costs are numbers, one higher than the other. That's an easy choice, but it was not the only factor we needed to consider. We're about to enlist someone to demolish our kitchen down to the studs, reinvent it to our (usually exacting) specifications, all the while displacing us from our everyday lives, our routines, and, of course, our privacy, for the foreseeable (and, hopefully, short) term. I will admit, although we had hired Pat for a few smaller projects in the past (rebuilding a deck, cosmetic half-bath facelift, and installing patio sliders), and each of which were completed with the utmost professionalism and to our absolute satisfaction, there was skepticism on our part whether taking on a kitchen remodel might be more than he could manage. For the aforementioned projects, Pat had done all of the work himself. Was that to be the case with our kitchen? The answer, of course, is no, and it will come as no surprise to anyone reading this review, that we did, in fact, choose Pat to spearhead our kitchen renovation project, and we are infinitely pleased with our decision. To begin with, Pat's proposal spelled out his process in unambiguous detail, in embarrassing contrast to some of the other contractors we had interviewed. We also knew, from having worked with him before, that Pat was an excellent communicator, both in terms of substance and responsiveness, and for this project, took it to the next level, by employing the Buidertrend mobile app (https://buildertrend.com/) as the hub for messaging, invoicing, documenting, payment exchange, and all phases of scheduling and milestones during the construction of our kitchen. I should add that, in addition, when a quick reply was warranted, Pat was available via text messaging, and he would respond immediately. The sub-contractors Pat chose for our project were top-notch craftspeople, including the master carpenter, artisan plasterers and tiler, electrician, and plumber. All of them displayed positive attitudes and were a pleasure to have in our home. There was one instance, however, in which one of the sub-contracting teams delivered what we considered to be unsatisfactory work. When we brought this to Pat's attention, he listened to our concerns, assured us that he would remedy the situation, and he did so by hiring a different company to redo the work at no further cost to us. The results were over and above our expectations. The project was completed precisely as proposed in terms of cost, and as expected (change orders and additional work aside) with respect to duration. We would gleefully recommend Godfrey Design-Build to anyone in search of a contractor for any size project, and we will be among those calling on Pat and his team again should the need arise for us. read more

Our house is an antique (300 yrs old), and we had a great deal of trouble finding someone who understood how we wanted to preserve the character and integrity of the house while updating it.
