We went here on a Sunday morning arriving a little after they opened at 11am. We were seated and our server Tarlys(TJ) came over and took our drink order. First time here, but it will not be my last. I had the Southern Fried Catfish, Okra, and Mac & Cheese. We had the most excellent server, Kyla. She was exceptional, kind, courteous, and attentive. Kyla made my day. This entire meal tasted as if Jesus had cooked it for His disciples. You could taste the love in this food. My friend and I went in around 8pm on a Saturday and were able to sit in the high tops by the bar. Our server, Solomon, was super sweet and attentive! However, we waited over an hour for our food to come out and when it did, I was missing a side dish and my friend's macaroni was cold as if it was never put in the oven. I ordered pasta to go at the end of our dinner and that came out quicker than the food we ordered while sitting inside the restaurant and they gave me the wrong pasta! But we got the seafood dip as an app and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! 10/10 recommend. My friend really likes their jerk chicken and yams. You get a lot of food for what you pay for and it came out pretty fast. The service was pretty good and the live music was good as well. It can get pretty loud, so just be aware of that. It is truly pitiful the lack there if service my family and I received today. After waiting 23mins no waitress came to greet, ask for drinks NOTHING! We had just left the hospital from visiting my grandmother to get some comfort food that was recommended.    We sat down for 23 mins and never had anyone to come even get a drink order! Down right pitiful when you try to support a black owned business ‼  When we finally decided to just leave they decided to be sarcastic and say, Have a nice day?! The menu for the restaurant is fantastic, but I the portions are small and were not tasty at all. I was visiting the area for a graduation and we came here to eat. I ordered the jerk chicken with sweet coconut rice. The sweet coconut rice was just sugar rice and the jerk chicken was not bad, but it just seemed to have marinade just baked on top which is not the type of jerk chicken I am used to. The pork chop didn't see a lick of seasoning. They were so bland when I tasted them it made me gag. The canned greens had long vines, not stems. The bread was decent but it was cold. I scoffed down a few beans and a few vines with that cold bread. Husbands food was decent, minus the Mac & Cheese, ZERO FLAVOR just cheese. I let him taste mine to make sure it just wasn't me expecting too much. He def agreed with me. The sweet tea was good and on top of it all we had to pay an extra $10 to hear old dude sing. The restaurant is extremely cold, food came out lukewarm, food was okay at best, service was EXTREMELY SLOW, food came out one plate at a time, servers were very forgetful & did not tend to our table properly, & it took extremely long to get the check. Also, the food presentation is nice but the taste falls short. The servers had no sense of urgency at all & they kept disappearing back in the kitchen for extended periods of times. I got the Cajun Jerk chicken Togo, they were amazing, a slight kick to them but bearable to eat. For my meal I got the Large portion oxtail meal, with greens, rice and beans, and sweet yam cornbread! The cornbread is not in the picture but I would give this meal a 10/10. The greens were my favorite with the cornbread, it tasted like somebody's grandma cooked them, they were so juicy and tender. Visited from Houston with my family of 5, and despite everyone's recommendations, the service was a letdown. The food looked amazing as I waited for order a drink and watched 4 tables and the 3 ladies at the bar be served. Realized it's automatic gratuity for parts of 5 or more so maybe that's why no one cared to serve us since tip is automatic. We waited 20 minutes to be acknowledged while the staff seemed distracted. Had the oxtails based on other reviews and they did not disappoint. Living in the DC area for 10 years my standards were high and these exceeded expectation. Sucks that the rice and peas don't come automatically with the dish, it counts as one of your two sides. I got the pan cabbage as my other side. It's shredded deliciousness! SO good and flavorful. The meal also comes with your choice of bread. I went with yams smothered cornbread (for a small up charge). It's a rounded piece of cornbread with either yams or greens on top. The menu has coconut yams but trust me when I tell you that you can't taste the coconut. Nor does it make the yams overly sweet. They were SO good. My Lord! The portions are huge, you'll have enough for later and then some. Which helps digest the $30 lunch price tag. Grabbed some reggae punch ($6) to drink but I also needed my water to dilute it. It's House Party kool-aid sweet. Took a kid's catfish nugget ($9.50) to go. It was more like popcorn shrimp as opposed to nuggets. Was kinda greasy. My son was not a fan. I was not a fan of passing the card processing fee over to the customer but I'mma let that go. I know to bring enough cash next time. Would have appreciated that tidbit being on the menu or announced by the server. Maybe it's posted somewhere and I just missed it. I purchased the oxtails lunch along with a catfish meal to go. I went in and the restaurant was pretty dim on the inside but it was a nice dim. They had some sort of blue lighting similar to maybe a nightclub. The young woman at the front desk was sweet. She told me that the regular oxtails meal, or the large, was $42.00 or something near that amount. I was so shocked by this. Another customer was standing near me when she said this and he said to me this was the reason he seldom orders oxtails. The price is just so extreme. Finally after several minutes I recieved the dinners and I left. The verdict. The catfish was ok. Although I've had much better. They appeared to take a normal sized catfish filet and cut it down the middle. Although it was still a decent size. Very long. But somewhat thin. I had two of them. I didn't care for the breading. It simply wasn't that good and the fish was very, very salty. I had yams and cornbread as a side and both of these were very good. Later I ate the oxtails. They were good. The rice and beans the oxtails came with were not very good. The rice was mushy. The beans and oxtail sauce had a slight sweetness that made it off-putting. Do they put sugar in their sauce? When I love something, I love it and I overdose on it. Out of all the times I've come to Godfrey's flagship, I have never experienced poor customer service..... until today. And you all know I'm always recommending Godfrey's. Amber, our server, was HORRIBLE. In fact, BEYOND HORRIBLE. And it takes a lot for me to say someone was horrible. I overly make excuses for people. After the kitchen runner brought the food, she never stopped to ask if we needed anything. I wanted hot sauce with my oxtails...that I never received. My guest wanted a refill on his sweet tea which he never received. The whole time, she never stopped to check in.. I ordered a drink that I had to ask the bartender to bring... after it set at the bar for the longest. This experience is funny because the last time I posted Godfrey's in my story with the caption, "Godfrey's never misses", someone commented, how bad of experience they always have and I commented, "I have never experienced that. (Check comments.) Then, this tops the cake, I asked for the manager on duty....which was a TOTAL waste. She listened with this smirk as if I was lying. She never apologized. She stated, "I'll talk to her about it." Amber then proceeds to walk past our table several times with the same smirk like, "You asking for the manager didn't do anything." If they check my record at Godfrey's, I tip and I tip well. Today, she received $0.00. I did tip the bartender, April, who is always great. She goes over and beyond. Hello all, I've been hearing good things about so I tried them. Note this was a call in order. When I called it in the woman that answers the phone said I will call you when the order is ready. I drove 20 mins. Sat in the car 15-18 mins. Then I called. She said yes it's ready and she was sorry. I paid for it and didn't take the time to look at it. I have sent this picture to friends.
