Gorgeous sofas and enveloping chairs in calm & dreamy palettes. Beautiful bed lines in luxurious fabrics. Hearty dining room tables and rustic chairs to accompany them. Memphis is sorely lacking in quality home furniture. The Back Room certainly fills an underserved niche. The people working there seem glad to be there and are happy to help coordinate a look that works. As we were preparing to leave, another customer overheard my friend say, "Let's go to a store where our money is appreciated." That customer immediately went and told the sales associate what she had heard. Only then, as we were walking out the door, did the associate finally acknowledge us. The experience was extremely disappointing. Every customer who enters a store should be treated with courtesy and respect, regardless of whether the staff believes they will make a purchase. Unfortunately, we left feeling unwelcome and as though our business simply did not matter.

It reminded me a lot of an Aaron's or a Rent A Center, in that there weren't an over abundance of choices here. There were also tons on signs on the wall stating "Your job is your credit." Which, I guess is good to know if you have bad credit. I found a lot of the furniture in Chapman's to be a little too ornate and wooden for my tastes. If you are looking for a bargain, I would definitely suggest stopping here, it is worth a shot. However, don't wander in here expecting the show room of a Value City or Ashley Furniture. It has grown over the years, I can remember when it was half the space and that was for combined PB/Williams Sonoma, and Hold Everything. It is surprising to look around my house and realize how many things were purchased at this outlet, and almost all of them on a super-closeout ultra special deal. Some might say I'm cheap, and I'd agree, but I also love nice things. Many, many years ago I saw the apothecary table from PB on an episode of "Friends," and thought it interesting and little more. Then imagine my surprise probably 10 years ago (quite awhile ago at least, don't quote me on timing) when hubby and I visited and saw a slew of apothecary tables on super sale for $49-$79... don't remember precisely, but seriously only two digits in the price. We've bought lamps, pillows, home accents, window treatments, light fixtures, vanity mirrors, lots of stuff over the years. This past weekend we visited and the deal I couldn't pass up was from the PB Kids collection, adorable retro shaped lunch boxes for some young ones on our Christmas list for $7. Seriously, so cute. I also grabbed a great looking travel cosmetic bag set for an older cousin who is in college, and we bought a couple of great nostalgic metal Christmas ornaments.
