I did not initially feel that anything was wrong with the application process, but I began noticing…read morered flags before I even arrived for my interview. When confirming my interview, I was provided with the address 1330 Smith Avenue. However, the actual location was 1340 Smith Avenue. As a result, I spent nearly 30 minutes at the Whole Foods trying to find the office. During that time, I was on the phone with an employee named Brian attempting to clarify where I was supposed to go. I asked multiple times if someone could come outside and direct me to the correct location, but I was repeatedly told only to "go to the lion statue and make a right." The incorrect address and lack of clear directions created an unprofessional first impression and made it unnecessarily difficult to attend the interview. During my interview, I filled out a paper application that asked for my Social Security number in two different sections. I did not enter my full Social Security number because I had not yet been hired for the position. After completing the interview and reference process, and still not being hired, I was sent another set of forms. Within the first two sections, I was once again asked for my Social Security number. I did not provide it on those forms either for the same reason. After submitting those forms, I was sent a third form authorizing a background check, which asked for my Social Security number for a fourth time. This requirement could not be bypassed. At that point, I understood why my Social Security number was needed for the background check, but I reached out to the agency to ask whether I had officially been hired before providing that information. I was not comfortable sending my Social Security number to a company that did not employ me and that had not provided any documentation regarding the protection of my personal information. The agency responded and informed me that I had not "technically" been hired, but asked me to complete the form "asap" in order to proceed. When I explained that I was not comfortable providing my Social Security number at that stage of the process, all communication stopped. My messages were ignored, and my phone calls went unanswered. I am not sure whether this company is attempting to scam caregivers, but it is absolutely not appropriate to repeatedly request highly sensitive personal information from applicants who have not been hired. It is also extremely unprofessional for management to ignore applicants simply because they are not comfortable providing their Social Security number before employment has been offered. Unfortunately, multiple job listings on Indeed turn out to be illegitimate. Whether intentional or not, companies such as Bunny Home Care are able to collect sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers, from applicants. If an applicant refuses to provide that information, communication appears to stop and the application process goes no further.
