The community center faced a baseball field. The building itself looks professional with a hint of rustic. A large reception hall is available for rental. Rates vary based on day of the week, and if the party renting lives within the township/ Three Rivers area. Grounds are well maintained. Behind the building is a small playground. This is a great added bonus if throwing a party where children are to be in attendance. From the balcony the playground is visible. Many trees have been planted so that the playground is not the main focus of the view. Various public events are held here throughout the year. In August, two outdoor concerts are held. When I think of Colerain I think of the hustle and bustle of Colerain Ave. This area is much more peaceful. Before COVID, the community center was a popular spot for weddings. The hall has a neutral look making it easily dressed up on down depending on the event. Due to restrictions, rental of the reception hall has been halted until further notice. Once services open again know that there is plenty of parking. There are several community outreach programs throughout the year. Due to COVID, those programs have greatly changed. There are also programs for seniors. Fun fact. The sign for the community center that is located off of the street was donated by the Northgate Mall.

This center also has a partnership with IPS and helps students find additional educational help, as well as a safe, quiet place to study. They also help with housing questions, offer a fitness zone, host workshops, advocate for east-side development and more. They're truly wonderful! Currently during COVID19, you can't walk in the offices without a meeting, so I'd suggest calling beforehand to book an appointment.

The John Boner Center offers a variety of community services for Indianapolis residents who need it. Right now, during COVID-19, you cannot just have a walk-in appointment. Please make sure you call ahead and schedule an appointment first, and wear a mask!

The Christian Park MultiPurpose Room has got to be the most hidden gem for event rentals in…read moreIndianapolis. It was actually the original gymnasium for the park before they built a new one in 2004. The rooms is 55' by 30' with original wood floor in great condition. We used it for a little rollerskate photoshoot and the rental is only $45/hr! They have 90 chairs, fourteen 6' tables, five 8' tables, and 3 each of two different sizes of round tables. I want to host a kids birthday party here soon, but honestly, the vibe in the space is so good you could bring in a rental company to do fancy chairs and this would make a killer wedding venue, it's that good. If you also need a kitchen, you can add on kitchen rental for just $25 an hour. There also two small classroom spaces you can rent for 25/40 so you could have a getting ready space.

However, ever since I started following Art Equals on social media, I discovered that there are events open to public inside the Hellman Creative Center. It's not just Artist Studios, as the sign would suggest. And, as it turns out, I am a big fan! Open, inviting, and clean, the inside of this historic building has been beautifully renovated. There is a large meeting/conference room just off the lobby. Beyond that, there are artists' studios and a small kitchenette. I attended a Zine Lab with Art Equals and had a fantastic time learning about Zines and creating one of my one. Stop by and take part in this excellent addition to the art scene in Covington.

This building was originally a sawmill and has been beautifully redesigned as a community space, spot for artists, and people who do good in the community (refugee settlement, help with taxes, cross-cultural training, learning how to respond to conflict, etc.). My favorite space, besides the community rooms, is Empower Tools. This is a free service for those with a Kenton County library card. An individual can rent tools for their art, lawn, home repair, moving supplies, or pruning needs. You have up to 3 tools for a week, without the need to maintain them. Perfect for someone like me who struggles with all the oils and fine tuning of home equipment!

We had heard about it from a friend and wanted to check out their all day crafting event. It was amazing! The spot is a renovated old pub now turned craft/music/hang out room geared toward events for the community. As we walked it the hallway opened up to the big room with various crafts happening at each table. The walls are a really fun brick with various unusual Decour and light atmosphere. It has the vibe of a very cool coffee shop or funky music venue. There is a Bar area where they often have snacks and Echo Effect items for sale Like T-shirts etc. We had reserved a space through Facebook Messenger ahead of time and thus went straight to the painting area. The event was relatively priced for the fun atmosphere and painting class we received. The teacher Dawn Adams did an amazing job taking her time to interact with everyone and giving us multiple options for each step. It was really relaxed so we were able to get up and get snacks go to the bathroom and come in and out during the training. They had stain glass, jewelry making, quilting and other things going on at different tables which was fun to check out as well. It was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon and we will definitely return. The best way to check out options is to go to their Facebook page and look at upcoming events. Next time will probably check out one of the cool new Shelbyville food spots to round out the event.
