We recently had Gold Country Roofing bid and replace our primary residence's roof which was 20+ years old and in need of repair and replacement. From the very start, the process was positive and professional in every way imaginable. The estimate was very fair and the process of getting the estimate and modifying specific parts of it were easy and handled with professionality. The day of the roof installation was also very well handled and completed by a good team and all of the workers and staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. We had suspected that several facia boards needed attention or replacement, and that was done as well which was a pleasant surprise and very cost effective. An HONEST COMPANY! We moved into our home 10 years ago and were told the roof was probably good for 7~ 8 years. We started having issues with the skylights and decided let's bite the bullet and get the whole thing done. We contacted G.C.R. and Ben came out and took a look. Outstanding company and crew. Gold Country Roofing completed the roof on our home plus 3 sheds and they did it in 3 days. The crew arrived on time as promised and began working right away. We had a few additional requests and they were accommodating offering suggestions. I was concerned about our gutter toppers as they were installed a couple of years ago and we have an electric awning cover that is bolted to the roof. The crew removed them and replaced them without an issue. All their work looks fantastic. We can attest to the professionalism and skill of all the crew of Gold Country Roofing. Workers arrived in the morning to remove older materials, which was done in an efficient and joyous mood. (A happy crew is a good crew) This job was finished early in the afternoon along with a protective covering put down just in case of a turn in weather. Next day the guys were out to install the new roofing which fantastically was accomplished by noon! So, this whole job was started and finished in one day and half including new drain gutters and roof vents. All debris was cleaned up and one wouldn't know the job had just been done. As it turned out, the following day it rained quite heavily, however we were happily secure under our new roof. Gold Country Roofing was hired to put a roof on my rental in Grass Valley. When I talked to the Forman "Ben" I asked him to put a high temp underlayment down. Ben said, "we use our own underlayment". Turns out, their underlayment was standard tar paper. I had just had my home reroofed in Livermore and the new ambient barrier underlayment is amazing. I should have insisted. Then the leak happened 18 months later dripping on our bed upstairs. Gold Country sent Carlos out to "fix" the leak. I was surprised to get a bill for 100.00 from Gold Country after the roof they put on leaked. They claimed some how the siding leaked and the water climbed up the wall and ran across the ceiling and it was the wall leaking. Interesting as I did not see Carlos hanging from the wall, he was on the roof. The worst thing about this company is they claim to give warranties. Its the worst when a company claims they're going to take care of you and they don't. Their Forman, "Ben" is ready to yell and scream at you when you simply ask a question. When I asked him to come out and check another leak, he said he wouldn't waste his time. read more

New to Grass Valley in November 2017, I learned from my pre-purchase Property Inspector, that my roof was in bad shape with less than a year at most before complete failure. I also began to explore panel solar solutions. I started searching YELP and found several contractors for both a roof and solar. We really did our homework and obtained 5 bids before selecting Gold Country Roofing to replace our 25 year old roof. First, we were told to make sure to get a roofing contractor with more than 20 years experience which made sense. Gold Country roofing was not the cheapest but Ben was the most professional of all of them all and explained in detail what we needed and why. We decided on them. The crew was amazing. They operated like a well oiled machine. Everyone knew what to do and how to do it. Everyone was polite and accommodating. I asked for a couple of minor things to be added and they did so with a smile. The roof was done in three days as they predicted and they cleaned up everything before they left. The roof looked great. But something was different and I could not put my finger on it at first. It looked better somehow. Then I realized, they painted the vents to match the roof! I did not ask for that but they wanted it to look right. I am very glad I did not go for the cheapest experienced bidder. In two days, we had a new roof! One day to remove the old one, one day to install the new one. The whole crew were friendly, considerate and clean. Just had our 25+ year old roof replaced by Gold Country. We initially contacted a repair person who told us we were on borrowed time with our old roof. This led to contacting 3 local companies for quotes. First company: Came by, walked on our roof. Discussed the work they would do and gave us a verbal quote and said he would email an estimate by the following Monday. We never heard back. Second company: Came by, walked the roof. Discussed their work and what we needed. Mentioned they outsource the tear off to an outside company. Then told us they would have an estimate in about a week. 10 days went by, he called with an estimate. 15 days went by and we got one in the mail. Gold Country: Stan came by. Walked the roof, discussed our situation in great detail. From skylights to gutters, warranty on a 50 year shingle, how they do their vents, etc. Lots of details and he had answers for all of our questions. Left us with a big packet of information too. We felt confident in his company but expected a very high quote due to the "extras". We received Stan's quote later that afternoon. All the estimates were within $500 of each other. Gold Country's included the most new stuff, (gutter covers, new sky light boxes, replacing seals around pipes, a 50 year shingle that no one else mentioned or offered too) We decided to go with Gold Country. Given it was still winter, we had to play close attention to weather. They need one day to tear off the current roof and lay down their water proof material. That day came and just as expected, his crew showed up and worked quickly to take off our old roof. At the end of the day, everything was cleaned up and back to normal. The following morning, his crew was back. The roof was completed by mid day and our property showed no sign of a construction site. They literally cleaned up everything and took the time to use a leaf blower to do a final sweep. The roof looks great. No leaks. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We had the roof replaced on our 20 year old owner built house. The roof leaked the first time it rained following replacement and continued to leak through numerous repair attempts. Through great frustration we continued to request the leak be repaired as it got worse and worse. Finally, through investigation we found that the roof jack where the leak was, was the only roof jack that had not been replaced. We were told by Stan the owner of Gold Country Roofing, the problem was because of poor roof design. We had to pay $180.00 to the roofer to replace the roof jack that should have been replaced when the roof was replaced. We were told the $180.00 would be refunded if the problem was atributable to "roofer error/poor workmanship", etc. The leak stopped with installation of the new roof jack. In spite of the obvious relationship between the leak and nonreplacement of the roof jack, Gold Country refuses to refund any of the $180.00. I would never recommend this company. They do not stand behind their work. Their work is substandard. They lie and their trustworthiness is highly questionable. read more

We were concerned with the cost of getting a new roof, so we had 5 bids from 5 local companies. Gold Country was the most thorough, well prepared, had a competitive bid, and were easy to deal with. All of their policies are well outlined on their webpage and contract. No surprises here! Any time I had a question, they were quick to get back to me and explain. Because I had a leak, they were able to get my roof on within a week of accepting their bid! The roof was done in 2 days. It was amazing. The workers were courteous and friendly. We just had a new roof installed. Stan Smith, Gold Country Roofing, is a gentleman. Spent time with us showing all the products and options. Agreed and the crew arrived on time and I watched, the entire day. Professional and courteous. After the job one worker walked around our house picking up pieces of construction debris around the home, tiny pieces no one would have seen. They cleaned our decks and driveway. Had a tiny roof extension off a bay window. The worker worked for a while and made a masterpiece! The roof jacks, old metal galvanized shiny metal, were painted the same color as the roof. It's hard to overstate how good this company is. I saw them doing my neighbor's roof and knew I'd be needing a roof soon, so they were one of four companies I had to come and giive an estimate. Their presentation was best and their price the lowest. But that was nothing compared to the diligence and energy of the workers; they swarmed like bees over the roof, covered undone areas when confronted with an unexpected rain storm, and returned to finish on a Sunday (after asking me if that was OK!) No where on their web site does it say they charge $75 to give a bid for the roof. They have a nice web site and many pretty pictures of happy smiling employees. I have 3 roofs I need a bid for ... that costs $225 just for an opportunity to meet these folks. I called other roofers in the community and no one else charges a $75.00 fee. Just plain common sense turned me off from working with these folks. They have nice radio ads too. read more

We contracted gold country roofing for a metal roof months ago and we are very unhappy with the results. To begin with it was not installed to manufactures specifications. We met nothing but resistance to come back and do some of the neccesary changes. In addition, they ran short on materials leaving a 2 in gap on our garagel, and a substancial piece of capping off the top of our great room. The roof did not pass final inspection and this issue is still not resolved. The owner is very unprofessional with his bids and overall communications.He never shows up on his job sites other than to collect money. I found his staff to be sub standard. Be advised to look for a different roofer, especially if you want metal! He has NO business doing them!!!! Oh one more thing... he"s not a man of his word! one area of the roof was asthetically unapealing, and he said if we bought more metal he would come back and redo it. however he has gone back on his word. More » In response to these complaints, I feel that we exceeded our contractual commitment in every way. Let me address the client's complaints. The material for this job had to be prefabricated, and yes, there was a delay in ordering some of the material while waiting for some decisions to be made by the client. Along with a number of meetings at my office with the clients, I was at the jobsite numerous times, not just to "collect money". In fact, one of my visits to the jobsite was to meet with a representative of the manufacturer, who stated that our work met with both industry and the manufacturer's standards. The final inspection did not pass because the County inspector did not feel the roof met the manufacturer's standards. At the County's request, the manufacturer has provided them with a letter stating that the roof DOES in fact meet industry and manufacturer's standards, so we are now waiting for the County to pass the final inspection. As for the allegation that I told the clients we would come back to redo the work: we DID go back - 1. We installed an MS High Temp Watershield underlayment, which was an upgrade from the 30# felt agreed upon in the contract , at no additional charge to the clients. 2. At the clients' request, we added extra screws, thereby exceeding industry standards. This was not included in the contract and was done at no additional charge to the clients. 3. At the clients' request, we installed a foam closure. This was not included in the contract and was done at no additional charge to the clients. 4. At the manufacturer's recommendation, we installed a cee closure. This was not included in the contract and was done at no additional charge to the clients. We have provided over $3,000.00 in extra work that was not charged to the clients in an effort to please them, but unfortunately they are still unhappy. Message Stan S. Flag this comment comments in re: to gold country roofing response. 1. Gold country ordered this MS High Temp Watershield underlayment by mistake! Yet it was made clear that we got something extra. So those costs should'nt be an issue, 2. The screws that were called "extra" were actually required by the manufacturing guidlines. I know that only because I had to order the instructions to make sure of the integrity of our roof. 3. Foam closures should have been a no brainer If the installer new the guidlines this again would not be an issue. They are required for pest control reasons. 4.Cee clousers were a bandaid to a situation where the roof was installed improperly. This is why Nevada County Insperctors will not pass this roof. In closing if Stan at Gold Country Roofing knew all the requirements of a metal roof, the "extra" costs would not have incurred!!! read more
