Bathroom complete renovation nightmare! Tiles were installed improperly, with several visibly chipped and uneven. Didn't follow manufacture instructions on tile installation. The soap caddy was also chipped, and the gold trim was scratched. Sink was leaking, fixtures installed wrong, had to send three different crews to fix issues. Ken is a terrible person to deal with. Like others I can write a long novel but I will keep it short. Day 1 after I accepted the proposal I drove down to his showroom in Neptune and between the time I accepted and the time I arrived, he realized his wife messed up on my proposal and charged us the wrong price for his pieces in his showroom. Red flag #1. Since I was in a jam and needed my bathroom done, I still signed. Before signing the contract we made sure that debris removal was Included in his price , he says yes my workers will take it in their truck at the end of the day. That didn't happen. I had a pile of debris and boxes on my floor the entire length of the job. He sold me a door but only included painting 1 side and when I questioned him about it he told me only 1 side is included and it would cost another $200 to paint the other side. His payment schedule is extremely aggressive, I paid him roughly $3k when I signed the contract, 3 days later he demoed the Sheetrock and asked for another 30%. So now I'm paid 60% and the actual renovation hasn't even started, just demo. He hounds you for money like an addict. He could not figure out how to properly size a saddle to transition from existing floor to new tile. He actually tried to collect final payment one afternoon not knowing his guys couldn't finish the job because he gave them the wrong saddle. So he comes the next morning and waits for his guys to show up so he can install it and collect final payment. He actually gets the wrong saddle again and does a poor job with tons of silicone and wood molding and tells my wife how I can go to Home Depot and buy such and such and fix it. I'm paying this guy to do my bathroom why am I buying anything to fix a saddle ? So now he asks for final payment and my wife asks about the debris removal. He says yeah no problem give me the check and my driver will come later and remove everything. She said I'm sorry ken but I can't pay you until you remove all the garbage. That's when he lost it. He caused a scene with my wife and in front of my 1 and 3 year old kids. Wouldn't leave my house , stood in the doorway and acted really tough with my wife. At this point I tell her I'm on my way and would be home in 20 minutes and of course ken cowers and packs the garbage in his truck. I don't know how he is still in business. Clearly he must pay for good reviews on other platforms but his true reviews stay on yelp. Do not trust this guy. I feel bad for his employees, they are all polite and talented. Hopefully they realize their worth and go work for a legitimate contractor. read more

I can echo all the terrible reviews here with a long drawn out story, but all this guy will do is lie to you as he will when he first meets you. Big Time Liar! Bad Guy. Real Bad guy. As soon as he gets your deposit, the true colors come out. It seems he may have done ok with some customers, but a broken clock is right twice a day. Way more Bad than good with this Bad guy. I had an appointment with Natalie on July 19, 2022. Prior, I had explained that we had 2 baths in need or a refresh. Natalie arrived 10 minutes late, informed us she was allergic to our cats, and asked us to keep them away. Okay. No issue. We explained we saw their ad and were hoping that they would come within our budget. Hopeful that our one 3 piece bath would be quoted under $10k - based on their ad of renovating this size space for $5k. We were shocked. The quote for 2 baths exceeded $65K. Again, not a gut job. No need to move plumbing, etc. When Natalie called to follow up about a week later, we informed her that Gold Standard Bathroom came in at $22k more than our highest quote. We had met with 6 contractors. Natalie responded with silence, a long pause, and then said thanks for that information. Not willing to work with us at all. Very disappointed. Agree with the other posters on here - Ken is the worst contractor we've ever dealt with. He is the opposite of good customer service. We could write ten paragraphs of all the issues we had with him but he'll just reply that we were the problem. WORST EXPERIENCE. DO NOT USE. NOT RELIABLE. Hiring Ken and Natalie with Gold Standard Bathrooms of Aberdeen was the WORST decision we made when renovating our bathrooms. We had a 10 month long NIGHTMARE experience working with them. They are the EPITOME OF THE HORROR CONTRACTOR STORIES you hear. I was pressured to sign in January 2021 to have a 'guaranteed' May start date. 5 months later when the end of May arrived, Natalie would tell me a different story on the start date and would say it's up to Ken. After I finally was able to reach Ken directly. Ken aggressively spoke down to me, sharing it was "absurd" of me to think my contract date was guaranteed. In my world, a signed contract by both parties is binding. He shared, "you know I do good work, if you're going to be annoyed for a couple days, you're crazy". I explained it wasn't necessarily the few days, it was the lack of communication, the pressure to sign for a clearly falsified start date, and his attitude. I have never heard someone speak so condescendingly to a customer. He also said, "how dare you call my cell phone" and I corrected him that this is the number Natalie gave me. My fiance was with me during the call and was shocked and frustrated at the way Ken spoke to me (the customer). Unfortunately, I already paid 7K as a down payment in January so I was stuck. Once the project began, I realized the nightmare had just begun. The day before they had planned to do my tile Natalie called to say the company discontinued the tile I had chosen and purchased. She said I had to come in that day to choose from the few tiles they could get before the next morning in order for the project to stay on track. I asked how am I just finding this out now and why did they wait so long to order it when I gave my deposit in January and it was now June. She blamed Ken, which was a trend where they each pointed fingers to the other for the blame game. Never would either take responsibility for their mistakes. Other issues included the vanity doors not soft closing properly as sold and sloppy paint that had to be redone. He also shared that he would give us a side strip for the vanity against the wall to "make it look finished", which would have been nice if he actually ever did it. After months of empty promises, he showed up with a piece (in September) that didn't match the actual vanity. The best part was those tiles I had to rush in and choose in less than 24 hours CRACKED due to sloppy workmanship and my shower was literally LEAKING. It took weeks of multiple calls, texts, and even Instagram messages to get Ken to respond to come fix my tile. If he didn't have unfinished work in my hall bathroom to be paid for, I don't believe he would have ever come to fix the shotty work in the master bath. Then came the hallway bathroom given I had already gave my deposit I had no choice but to continue working with these people. First they tried to charge me twice for something I already paid for and I had to prove it with my contract, thank goodness I keep track of every detail because they weren't quick to just accept the fact they made a mistake I needed to prove it. Then they ordered the wrong vanity top and instead of rectifying the situation quickly, Ken kept putting off ordering a new one. That was another argument. After months of Ken putting off finishing my hallway bathroom because he was busy with other projects, it came to a boiling point. When I stood up for myself over the phone to Ken, he started to yell at me, talk down to me, and resorted to name calling. I fired him later that day and had a new contractor come in within 2 weeks to finish his sloppy work. The new contractor was wonderful, timely, and did the job with precision. He finished the job within 4 days, where Ken couldn't do it in 10 months. I strongly advise AGAINST hiring Gold Standard Bathrooms of Aberdeen. There are numerous small businesses in Aberdeen to support who actually care about their customers and treat others with respect. read more

Thumbs down. Similar story to other reviewers, who fell for this "professional," had their money taken, and no/little work done. Fell for a bathroom remodel special that never finished. Either no answer at the office or cell, or too busy (6 months out), or frivolous excuses why they can't complete the work. Professional presentation, but poor project management and zero customer service. Bathroom is non-functional, the way it was left, and now out several thousands of dollars...for nothing. Waste of time and money. And it looks like we're headed to small claims court. Postscript: No record of me? You'll hear from me in court, I assure you. Gold Standard Bathrooms took a deposit from me in January 2017 for a bathroom remodel. The job was to be done by march 2017. Because the job was never done, at the end of March I asked for my money back. After many conversations with the owner and staff, they agreed to refund my money by the middle of April. As of today 5/24/2017, I have not received a refund. Update: On July 26 2017, my problem with the Gold Standard Bathrooms co. was resolved. read more

Will not take responsibility for work and product. Tub was defective upon installation. The tub was also chipped by workers during installation. Will not replace it, claiming its a manufacture issue. Manufacture came to inspect and found not to be manufacture issue. During final inspection found tub ledge was warped so a pool of water constant sits against grout and tiles. Similar experience as another reviewer mentioned. Kenny's initial meeting seems professional but once you sign the contract that's when everything changes. If you decide to go with him then make sure you have a start date and more importantly an END DATE in the contract. He and his office secretary, Maria, will flat out lie about permit delays with the township. Went on for about 2 months. I called the township myself and they told me that they were waiting for Kenny 3 DAYS after he submitted the application! Maria (if you ever get a hold of her) never has an answer. If you ask her a question her only answer is 'I'll call you back'. Which, of course, never happens. They also don't have enough guys to do the job. The one main guy was good but he definitely couldn't do it by himself. So Kenny would get him those clueless day laborers that would end up wasting more time. Bottom line is Kenny does not know how to project manage and and will give you every excuse in the book as to what the delays are for when it's just him not being honest and not around to see what's being done. read more

Ken comes to your house on time and wears goldstandard labeled clothing. He is clean cut and appears college educated. He has good manners and a great sales pitch. He shows you tile samples and fixtures right on the spot. Uses his laptop and printer and appears on top of his stuff. Once you sign the contract and hand him your check the communication is over. Nobody answers the phone or calls you back. Very frustrating. He tells you it's a total remodel but then chisels away at the actual work to done. He ends up leaving the existing sheet rock up or quotes you a price that includes a shower curtain not a door. His 5000 dollars ad is really a great way for him to get into the house. If you decide to go with Ken get him to put a start date on the contract. Also you have to be patient because as mentioned customer service is horrible. The work done once he comes is mostly good just don't run into extra things because it's really hard to get extras without the big $$ attached. read more
