This is a very clean, unassuming shop that clearly is focused on their customer and their craft. Everything on the menu sounded appealing and I was happy to have some locals around to share their favorites and narrow it down for me. The half subs are as big as a whole at Jreck's. The meat is high quality and the rolls are soft and tasty. I am going to go as far as saying this is the best sub shop in Watertown. Their meat (chicken breast, ground beef, etc.) is better than what I have found in most groceries stories. The produce is good and you can usually find what you need. They also have a cool assortment of dips and hummus and a tasty spicy tomato oil. Tops carries a good mix of big name brands and local products. You can park incredibly close to the store entrance. I also didn't realize the cost increase of oil in this country affected the availability of sub oil, which she didn't ask if I wanted and neglected from my dry sandwich (which she later mangled). For the past week, Marley and Me has been the saddest thing I've witnessed, until today when she strangled the life out of my sub while I helplessly watched. And it wasn't just mine, the poor guy's sub to the right of me met the same fate, except she left a pallet-load of spinach on his before steam rolling his sandwich. All said and done, it still tasted good (after I forked the toppings back in and finished cutting it in half), I just can't stand the thought of another loyal Jrecks patron losing his dream sub to such carelessness, especially in this economy. I hope we can overcome this, and create a learning environment where Jrecks employees feel comfortable enough to learn from each other and wrap subs with delicate precision. Then, maybe one day, we can all look back on this tragic incident and laugh.
