This place is fairly close to my house, but we just never tried it because we had our "go-to" Chinese spots. However, while Hurricane Helene was approaching, we lost power pretty early in the day, so ordered this place for delivery. The delivery time was listed as a very fast time, but it did take about 45 minutes to receive from order to delivery. I'll be completely honest, this was mediocre at best. My son ordered teriyaki beef skewers and plain lo mein. The lo mein was unseasoned. It tasted like plain boiled pasta. The teriyaki beef wasn't too bad; it tasted good but was completely dry. I got the Mongolian beef combo meal and my partner got the bourbon chicken combo meal. Both were very bland. The fried rice was basic at best. I bit into many hard peas. The egg rolls are absolutely terrible. They tasted frozen, they were barely warm, and they felt like they were pre-fried and sitting out. The common theme with everything we ordered was bland food made with cheap ingredients. We honestly couldn't finish any of this food with one exception: my son did finish the teriyaki beef. Realistically, I don't think we would ever order here or eat in this place just because all of the food was pretty tasteless, the quality was subpar, and I just frankly can't spend my money at places that are ok with serving substandard food. read more

This place must be under new ownership or management because it's not the same as it used to be. unfortunately just had a horrible meal didn't get the order right for either meal it was Bland and we could've picked up La Choy out of Publix and had the same experience. If you love hot and sour soup, Golden Bowl has the best! I have yet to find one any better! They put chicken in theirs, which is something I have never found at any other restaurant. It's a very hearty and great tasting soup! I have also ordered their orange chicken and their garlic chicken, which is equally delicious as their soup! I always get great friendly service when I go there, and am in and out very fast. The owners are always very nice and even stayed open after hours when I got stuck at work one time and wasn't able to get there until ten minutes after they were supposed to close. They still handed me my order with a smile, and didn't show the slightest aggravation towards me with being late! I highly recommend you give this place a try! read more

GB used to be a solid choice for lunch. Now, the food is sub-par. I used to order Mongolian beef--until my order became 99% onions and 1% meat. This Chinese restaurant has been around for a very long time. I've passed by it millions of times going to Publix. I tried it for the first time on July 4th because our regular Asian take out place was closed. We typically barbeque on this day but decided to have take out Chinese instead. Long story short, the food just was not that good. I had the General Tso's chicken and mom had her usual sweet & sour shrimp. My husband had the spicier Hunan or Szechuan beef. I can't remember which one. He can't either, because it wasn't that memorable. We were also missing one an item from our order. Let me just say that there are other places near by that are way better in quality and flavor. I'm glad I tried it, but it's not a place I will go back to anytime soon. read more

It is small and easy to miss as it is right next to publix and other small businesses. Being from New York, it was imperative I find the right pizza place and chineese food place to feel a little more at home here in Florida. Golden Bowl is the only place I go for chineese. They are also from NYC. The food is great they are very clean, there is nice seating space inside. Their chicken and broccoli, sesame chicken, lo mein, and egg rolls are amazing. They also get the correct fortune cookies made in NYC, not that stuff panda express gets. I highly recommend this place, especially if you're from New York. Service is just as expected, you order, you're in and you're out. I've had zero issues with them. read more

This is my first time at the Golden Bowl, as I move along my quest to try all the Chinese restaurants in the Brandon / Valrico area. Rating a restaurant with such a large menu is difficult, if you are alone and only ordering 3 items, as you are not trying enough items to have a statistically significant sample. The moral is to consider this a review of the items I ordered, not all of their offerings. On entering the restaurant it is evident that this is primarily a take out and delivery establishment. There were two booths and two tables. I stepped up to the counter and ordered Mongolian Beef, Hot and Sour Soup, and a Shrimp Roll, and then sat at a table. Within a few minutes one of the cooks brought me the Hot and Sour soup in a Styrofoam bowl. No napkins and no spoon, I had to get up and retrieve a small plastic soup spoon and several bar sized napkins. My first impression of the Hot and Sour soup was that it was very hot in temperature, but not spicy, devoid of any meat, and otherwise lacking flavor. I set the soup aside to let it cool while I focused on the other items. Jumping ahead to when I came back to the soup, some of my initial impressions proved false. Scooping up from the bottom of the bowl, there were some pieces of meat. Some of the items from the bottom of the bowl also had some red pepper flakes, so if I got a spoonful of these it was definitely spicy. Not as bad as my original impression, but not an item I would recommend. A few minutes after received my soup, one of the cooks brought over my Mongolian Beef and Shrimp roll. Although I had indicated I would be eating in (which they obviously knew since the soup was brought in an open container), the Mongolian Beef was served up in a closed Styrofoam container with the shrimp roll in a bag on top of the Mongolian Beef container. I neglected to mention earlier that I ordered the Mongolian Beef off of the lunch menu (which is available until 3:30 PM) so it included fried rice and a drink. The portion of Mongolian Beef and fried rice was very generous. At this point I need to take the blame for not looking at the menu better. I tasted the Mongolian Beef and found it to be rather bland while I was expecting a spicy dish. I quickly checked the takeout menu and saw that the Mongolian Beef was not marked with a red pepper symbol, so in essence I got what I ordered. Even taking that into account I found both the main dish and the fried rice to be rather flavorless. Maybe this establishment has some dishes they excel at, and I just ordered the wrong things. Otherwise my overall rating would have been lower. Perhaps when I have completed my survey of all the Chinese restaurants in the area I will return, and try some of the other items on the menu. I did take a number of pictures, and I would encourage you to look at them all, as they may have an impact on your impression of the restaurant. read more

This is a hit or miss place. We frequent the Golden Bowl once or twice a month for several years. Its convenient and very often very good. I've learned that the food is cold and greasy later in the day so I don't order anything after 7 pm. I also learned to check my order as often items are missing or lids aren't on properly. We've always had a few issues with every order but because we love Chinese food and it's very close to our home, we remain vigilant and forgive them. I can throw down with some orange chicken. Shoot, let's be honest...I've been known to go double orange on occasions. Golden Bowl is really delicious. And Fresh. They make everything to order, which is rare at $8 a combo. It's a tiny little dining area...and really not suited to dine in...so call ahead about 15 minutes. On a whim I decided to try this place since I wanted Chinese food and was in the area. OMG what a mistake! The first question I asked was if they use MSG, the lady said no so I decided to order a combo. If you are looking for a place that is sheer quantity then this place is for you if you don't mind what it tastes like. Can you just say, "It tastes like burning!". I mean I understand for the price it is not going to be the best tasting ever, but at least taste something more than the fuel that fires the wok. The BBQ pork tasted like some fatty something, the fried rice tasted like fueled rice, the lo mien was noodles covered in lard, and the cream cheese won tons were burned on the outside and semi-frozen on the inside. I tried to finish, but even with all the years I ate MREs in the Army and the bad chow I ate there I believe that I have experienced the worst food I have ever ate. To make things worse she lied on the MSG, about 30 minutes later I got a major headache because of the MSG in the food. Some people absolutely love this place, I just don't see how. read more
