I absolutely love this place. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is beautiful and welcoming. The detailed Chinese columns and carvings really stand out and give it such a special feel--you can tell care was put into every detail. The service is always wonderful. Winston at the front desk is especially kind and polite, and he always makes you feel welcome. That personal touch means a lot to me. The food is truly the best Chinese food around here. I enjoy so many dishes, but some of my favorites are the Shrimp Mei Fun, House Special Lo Mein, Orange Chicken, egg rolls, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. Everything is flavorful, fresh, and consistently delicious. You can really tell this is a family-owned restaurant that takes pride in what they do. Absolutely the worst Chinese food I've ever had. $90 for a few appetizers, two soups, and a main dish. Fried was horrible. Pork fried rice was bland, mushy, and tasteless. The dumplings were doughy and gooey, not to mention turn lacking flavor. The dipping sauce was filled with oil. Very heavy. The spare ribs were coated in thick honey and too much oil. The egg rolls were dense and flavorless. The sesame chicken was bland and extremely chewy. The worse Chinese meal I've had in my life. Save your money and go somewhere else. Their service isn't that great either. They close from 2:30-4:30, so you can't even place an order for pick up until they re-open. The decor and ambiance is mediocre and could really use an upgrade. I ate here years ago and it was mediocre, at best, the place could stand a good cleaning, too. I was told to give it another try. $90 wasted. NEVER AGAIN. read more

What a great little restaurant, we have friends in the Haw River area who love this place and my family was not disappointed. The food was delicious, and the restaurant was willing to customize as needed if someone wanted a plate that was normally mild to be spicy, etc. the staff willingly made it happen. I've not dined in a lot since Covid but I felt very comfortable here. They knew people who came in and new their orders as well as likes and dislikes, It's been a long time since I've been in a small town restaurant who truly knew their clientele. My wife and I got the house mei fun and an order of the chicken friend rice to share and it was delicious. I am partial to an Asian restaurant near my home and I feel Golden China beat them hands down. I will definitely be asking to eat here next time we are in the area. read more

I've had hot and sour soup from coast to coast and surprisingly, the hot and sour soup here in Graham NC is by far the best I've had. I am updating my review as my last was mistaken identity of a Chinese place down the road in the Food Lion Plaza. My review still stands there however this place is a different experience. I sat down as this has optional dining. The food was very well prepared and authentic. It is a far step above typical Chinese strip mall fair. I ordered the Kung-Pao Chicken and it was good in every way. The cuts were clean White meat vs the fatty, grisly cuts from other common takeouts. If you like nose-numbing homemade mustard sauce, it is a must try. It's a condiment on the table and makes you wanna throw that stuff in a packet in the garbage. This was our first visit. We visited at lunch on a weekday. The ambiance was quiet, the room decorated in traditional and modern Chinese. The Golden Dragon columns are beautiful...can't wait to bring our preschool grandson, he will love them! We were greeted and seated by a very pleasant young man; it is a family owned restaurant. A local policeman was picking up an order. He recommended the restaurant highland reported it is a local favorite. Our waiter was efficient, refilled our drinks without us asking, and served our dishes piping hot. We tried the Chicken Szechuan, Wonton soup, an appetizer assortment tray, and hot Oolong tea. We got a take-out order for Wonton soup, shrimp toast, and Beef LoMein. The prices were reasonable. The menu had vegetarian options. They had a kid's menu. They had soft drinks available. There was not a bar. Everything we tried was delicious They're located in a shopping center so there was plenty of parking spaces, including handicapped. The entrance and restrooms are handicapped accessible. We look forward to return visits to sample more of their carefully and artfully prepared menu items! read more

This restaurant could be the poster child for good Americanized Chinese food. It's located in a small, busy strip center, and the inside is nicely decorated, a bit upscale, a nice comfort level. The lunch menu is rather limited, though the dinner menu adds some more variety, but neither menu strays far off the reservations when it comes to traditional Chinese dishes - there simply are few. We started with Fried Chicken Wings, to be followed by Shrimp Fried Rice, Pork Egg Foo Young, and Kung Pao Shrimp. The wings were out quickly, and they were nicely cooked, though a bit muted as to flavor. The drumettes were a bit dry as well, the flat or wingette pieces were much more tender, juicy. The entrees took awhile to come out of the kitchen, nearly 30 minutes - I would guess this was because we did not order any lunch specials. None of the entrees were "bad", but then again none were exceptional. The general theme running through all 3 dishes was a recurring blandness, even the Kung Pao Shrimp - this is a dish that should carry some spiciness, but that was not present here, and in fact the major taste was one of sweetness. The Egg Foo Young gravy was not one either of us cared for, the actual pancake without the cloying gravy was very nice, totally fresh tasting. The Shrimp Fried Rice was really the most bland, and it was simply rice & shrimp - no corn, or peas. The service was delightful - the older Chinese gentleman who waited on us was engaging, funny, and efficient. - in a short time he will leave for a month's visit to Singapore, his home, he seemed really excited. I like the atmosphere & the service - we'll be back to try other items on the menu - I want them to be equal to the atmosphere and service. read more

Last night I picked up the best 1/2 wonton.1/2 hot & sour soup, during this cold weather it was a wonderful start to my Shrimp Egg Foo Young, and shrimp fried rice, both were loaded with fresh shrimp and sauce was delicious ! "you don't like the water chestnuts, right". This is unheard of in the restaurant business these days. Most local Chinese places are like... take your food and go. This family is amazing. They make you feel like a member of the family when you come in. They know you by name. I had a "meh" experience here. I came for lunch around 1 pm and was able to be sat immediately. I ordered hot wings for an appetizer and general tso chicken with white rice. The hot wings weren't all that great tasting and the texture was terrible. The general tso chicken was not spicy at all. The cups that they give you to drink out of are tiny so you literally have to depend on refills. I doubt I'll come back. I'd recommend eating at Shanghai which is down the street. read more

Spent 108.00 for food that I could have cooked with my eyes closed. Everything from the Beef Teriyaki that looked and taste like beef jerk( dry and tasteless), Egg foo young was half cooked, mushy and with this grey like gravy, Sesame chicken with fried rice, come on fried rice that had no vegetable in it and taste like leftover rice from the day before, sweet and sour chicken, chicken nuggets weren't fried enough and the sauce had big chunks of pineapple in it. Fried dumplings were crying for flavor, too hard and the filling was not recognizable as the soft succulent taste it should have been. Beef Chow Mein had not one drop of noodles in it at all instead they sent dry noodles that you put in soup full of onion and green peppers and maybe 10 pieces of beef. My husband's Shrimp and Lobster sauce was shameful, all this sauce and 5 little shrimp swimming around for dear life. Chicken wings were fried with no coating, not crispy and tasteless. The egg rolls we order as extra had some much cabbage and not kind of meat in it should have been named cabbage rolls. I was very, very disappointed because we served this as a birthday meal. The money we spent on this and got what we got is shameful, never again will I ever eat or recommend this restaurant to anyone. This place has several recent positive reviews, and YELP won't steer me wrong, will it?!?! Stopped in for lunch today. The dining area was nice & not spartan like a lot of strip mall Chinese. There were no lunch combinations with soup, so I ordered a bowl of egg drop. Should have known better. It was thick like it had lots of corn starch so I wonder if it was a reheat & serve? For my taste it could have used a little rice vinegar to add flavor. I did like the crunchy flat noodles served with the soup & ate too many of them. That's 2.95 I won't get back. I ordered the Hunan Chicken & steamed rice. Pros are that it was made with white meat chicken with a good variety of vegetables which was what I was looking for. Cons are that it lacked much flavor or complexity despite being drowned in a syrupy sauce which is so typical of a lot of Asian restaurants. It was plain. Why they think we don't like spicy?!?! I added a picture which looks better than I thought it tasted. The waitress was really nice. For over $13 with the tip, that's way too much to pay for a mediocre lunch. read more

Golden China has always been a family favorite when we want a higher quality meal and environment than going to a buffet. The hot & sour soup is better than any other Chinese restaurant in the area. Our go-to dishes are the Sesame Chicken, Honey Chicken (General Tsao's) and Sweet & Sour Pork. The egg rolls are great too. We get the dinner for two md add two additional egg rolls and it is enough to feed two adults, a 15 yr old, a 13 yr old and 2 yr old. I also can't speak highly enough of our usual waiter, Sam. He remembers our family, knows what we like and takes awesome care of us. He's one the best waiters in Alamance County. read more

Maybe I showed up on a bad day, but I will never eat at Golden China again, and I'll recommend against it to anyone that asks. I needed to order take-out for lunch and was thrilled to find Golden China had a menu online, with lunch specials even! So I called up and ordered the Orange Chicken. The lady who took my order was very short, speaking only about 8 words the entire call and sounding very annoyed at my presence. Oh well, I thought, and brushed it off. I was so excited for (what was supposedly) good Chinese food I could excuse that. And the price? $5.60 for the lunch special with rice and egg roll - another reason I chose to order from here. When I got to the restaurant, I waited in line for a few other take-out orders, no biggie. Got to the register, told her what I'd ordered...$7.26, she says. May not seem like a big deal, but even with tax that's a good $15% higher than the price on the website. Again, I thought, no biggie. I was still excited about the orange chicken. I drove home quickly and opened the box... to a major disappointment. I saw a fried chicken breast cut into 4 pieces, a decent amount of rice, and a styrofoam container of a syrupy-sweet sauce that had a hint of orange flavor - nothing at all like what I've come to expect from Chinese-style orange chicken. I was really hungry, and had no time to go back out, so I tried to eat it - I really did. It was absolutely disgusting. The chicken was way overcooked; dry and chewy. The breading came off as soon as you tried to cut a piece of chicken. The sauce was way too sweet and had little flavor otherwise. The only thing halfway decent about this meal was the rice, which was fine. Then again, it's pretty tough to screw up plain steamed rice. All in all, this was probably the worst food I've ever been served at any restaurant of any kind. Is it possible I just chose a bad day? Maybe the staff was having an off day? Sure. But there's no chance I'll be going back to find out. read more

Remembering that this is, after all, NC - I give high marks. The menu is so much fun to read- they have it all! Egg roll may not have the best filling, but the wrapper is crisp and grease-free, and for us- it's all about the wrap! The Shrimp and vegetable dish that I ordered, consisted of perfectly cooked large shrimps and al dente veggies. Everything was good - and they have the best HOT mustard- knock your socks off! Golden China is a favorite place where my grandmother and I often have lunch. I've had dinner there a few times, too. Every meal there has been fantastic - well prepared, fresh ingredients and SUPERB service. As I tell people in Greensboro (where I am), you have to go to Graham for good Chinese food. As far as Chinese Cuisine goes for Alamance County.....Golden China is the ONLY Chinese Restaurant that is worth going to. I've tried the many others in the area but they don't even come close to the quality of food served at Golden China. The Hot and Sour soup is awesome! The service is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. On this date they had a 100.00 sanitation grade! Great place! read more
