The staff replied: "We will have the boxes available." Based on that confirmation, I made the trip. When I arrived, I was told their shipment was still being unpacked, so I waited in the area. After everything was sorted, I was informed that NIKKE wasn't part of the shipment at all -- not delayed, not street-dated, simply not included, which directly contradicted the message they sent me earlier. I understand shipments can be incomplete. The issue was being told the product would be available during the event period and only finding out the opposite after waiting around. Having recently returned to reading and collecting, I have had the opportunity to visit a couple of times. The first experience was very underwhelming. My friend and I went in looking for some back issues. There was a single person working who didn't even bother to greet us when we walked in or even say two words. As we hunted through the back issues, again, wasn't spoken to at all. Finally I asked about a couple books was basically waved over towards the general area. His dinner was much more important. (Spent over $30) But hey, everyone has an off day so I said I would give it another chance later on. Second experience started with a phone call that left me feeling like I was causing an inconvenience. But I wanted the books and they had them. So off I went. This experience was much like the last. Walked in and there wasn't anyone around at all. I found the book I was looking for on the shelf and grabbed it and proceeded to browse back issues again. Found some I wanted. Owner/manager finally appeared and chatted with another person that came in afterwards. Still didn't acknowledge me. Went to check out, stood at the counter while he wandered around. Finally noticed me. Checked me out ($40). Barely spoke. So...while they have a great selection of back issues and current stuff is usually in stock, I am about the experience as much as the purchase and it was just a sucky experience. Comic Relief was not a welcoming place. I don't know if it is because I am not a regular or what. If all you want is to get your books and leave, then have at it. If you want an enjoyable experience and especially if you are new to the store or comic collecting, I would recommend heading over to Amazing Bookstore on Richfield or, if you don't mind the drive, Coy Comics in Saginaw. Coming from Milford, you basically follow Milford Road until you get to Fenton Road, and it's there on the corner by the tracks. Even though there isn't a Second Shot sign that I noticed from the road, the Traxxas banner was easy to see at night. Admittedly, Second Shot hasn't been open in this location for more than a few weeks, so their inventory isn't gigantic. However, all the major brands were represented: tons of Traxxas, lots of Losi, a bit of Team Associated, and so on. Many new parts, lots of RTR setups, and I've gotta say, the prices were excellent. If anything in the store was priced higher than Tower / A Main / Amazon, I didn't see it -- and I was looking. I really wished I had come in sooner, actually. I had a chance to chat with the guy who runs the place, and he's easily the least pretentious RC guy I've spoken with. He definitely knows his stuff, but there was never an "I do this at 'the track' so you should..." moment. And there was a definite "If I don't have it, I can get it" ambiance. Keep in mind though, that RTR seems to be Second Shot's bread and butter. Walking out of there with a Team Associated kit is probably not going to happen if you didn't have it ordered. On the other hand, if RTR is your thing and you need repairs that you don't want to do yourself, Second Shot is probably the only place in the region I've been to that offers that sort of service. As for the used / consignment aspect, it's there, There were a few rolling bodies and fully-built SC trucks and a pretty awesome early 80's Tamiya nitro chassis. On the parts side, it's not like they're selling burned out servos or anything like that. From what I could tell, there were a couple of new-in-box nitro engines on consignment, and pretty much everything else was new. The guy there said lots more inventory was coming, and with such a convenient location, something tells me that I'm gonna have to lock up my credit cards if I don't want to go broke.
