I want to thank Golden Gate RHCC for providing an excellent staff of medical professionals to attend to my mom's health issues. Many heartfelt thanks to the Doctors for their concern and attentiveness to mom's health situations. I also want to mention the day and night supervisors Dawn and John who were always so compassionate. Special thanks to John for being there during mom's final moments. In my opinion at Golden Gate you have some of the best nurses on the 4th floor, and 2nd floor when mom first arrived. The aides were very caring and took that extra mile with mom's daily care as best they could. I never thought I would place mom in long term care, but when we could not take care of all her medical needs at home we knew it was the right decision and I am glad we selected Golden Gate. A big THANK YOU to the Social Services ladies who could not be sweeter and always accessible to answer questions. Laura was a sweetheart and always there to answer my financial questions. Many thanks to Debbie the speech therapist working with mom during the last few months to see how we could get her to eat without too many issues, not knowing we had a bigger issue coming. The P/T and O/T tried so hard to make her body move but it was an overwhelming task for them and mom, but I thank them for understanding her limitations and not making her endure more pain than necessary. Terrible Terrible This place was a disaster for my family. They are money aggressive and vicious. The physical therapist was EXTREMELY ROUGH my mother told me before she died... And they wouldn't accept mother back because she didn't have money... So she died the next week. DISGUSTING ANIMALS THEY ARE!!!!!!!! read more

A sincere Thank You to the 3rd floor staff. Their kindness, care and hard work ethic made my experience easier to handle. My sister was a patient there and at first I was devastated with the connotation of a city nursing home but the staff came through treating her with ease and respect. Even at times when the staff didn't know I was there, they still showed the same respect. Not all long term care facilities have good reputations but there are lots of really good and caring staff working at Golden Gate. read more

I had both of my parents here primarily for rehab. One in 2019 before covid and one in 2021 during covid. Both times were excellent. They received exceptional attention in both the therapy department as well as general care. What sets this place out from other rehab and long-term care is they see a therapist daily. Moreover, my mom preferred a different therapist a few days in, and they immediately accommodated her. Of course, issues came up here and there; however, they were dealt with quickly and professionally. My experience from administration to social services to all the health care workers was a pleasure to work with! Even the front desk was accommodating and friendly. I was incredibly grateful during covid my mom was cared for safely, and I could still visit her during the week. read more

Stay FAR FAR away !!! Extremely short staffed CNA's do the best they can but when there are only 3 per 60 patients daily your loved ones will not receive the basic care they need and deserve ! I had to beg, argue and fight for my father to be showered once a week and he was supposed to be showered twice weekly . Any floor above 2 is falling apart peeling paint and wall paper . There are very little activities for residents . God forbid your family member becomes agitated or a bit hard to handle because their dementia is moving into another stage they have absolutely no clue how to handle them . I was told to sit in the lobby and wait for the psychiatrist to come in and tell him what's going on after numerous discussions that he was declining . They cannot handle these type's of patients whatsoever and look to get rid of them if needed . Social workers are useless ( the ones I had ) they will yes you to death to shut you up but nothing ever changes .. and I won't even get into what I think about head admin just take my advice and stay Far far far away you will absolutely regret it Maybe one day the CNAs will get paid what they actually deserve for the work that they do and new hires will actually stay on instead of leaving right away ! My mother was in Golden Gate Nursing Home and Rehabilitation for 7 months. She suffered a stroke in early January and required dialysis due to a pre-existing condition. In late March, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, my mother was left unattended with no guard rails on her bed. She fell out of her bed and sustained a serious head injury that required stitches. The administration chose to have her treated at Staten Island University Hospital, without consulting our family. Needless to say, my mother contacted Covid-19 while hospitalized, requiring further treatment and rehabilitation. The rehabilitation staff at GG were generally competent and caring. Dr. Lucinda Ripoll, the physician in charge at GG will not give you the time of day. She refused to return phone calls and would not respond to our questions about my mother's condition. When we realized my mother's was being over medicated she reluctantly adjusted her medication after our insistence and intervention. Mary James is the head social worker at GG. Mary is most definitely in the wrong profession. Social workers are supposed to be an advocate for the patient. It gave Mary great pleasure to tell us we couldn't have any more meetings with Mom or that we were talking on the phone with her way too long. You could tell by the tone of her voice that it gave her pleasure to tell us we couldn't visit or call any longer. She's very spiteful and not at all sympathetic to the patients or their families. The head nurse, Ms. Binder, is very nasty and didn't like to answer any questions about my mother's condition. The nursing staff and aides were very caring and kind, but extremely intimidated by Ms. Binder and afraid for their jobs. (Two of Mom's nurses left during her time there for positions at other nursing homes). When it was apparent that Mom was declining and we expressed our concerns to the administration that we were considering taking her out everything changed. Nurses were no longer allowed to take our phone calls about Mom's condition before getting permission from Ms.Binder. Marjorie Shane, the nurse practitioner outright lied to us about Mom's condition before we instead on an ambulance. Right now, everyone is afraid to go into nursing homes because of the pandemic so they have free reign to do whatever they please. We finally got Mom out but not before a screaming match in the lobby and demanding an ambulance. Mom passed away a little more than a week after we demanded the ambulance that day, despite them telling us she was fine and her vitals were very good. read more

My mom just spent 4 1/2 weeks at this facility and I was very impressed!! From the amazing social worker, Amy to the nurses on the second floor, especially Mark and Mariano, my mom was well taken care of. The second floor staff goes over and above for the patients! Sharon the head nurse was always available to answer any questions or concerns. Mom always felt comfortable and safe. The facility was clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this facility for anyone who needs peace of mind when a loved one needs rehab. Truly a great experience. read more

This place killed my grandmother. A CNA got annoyed & violent with her and pushed her off the bed, she fell into the radiator and broke 2 ribs. The same cna also smothered her with a pillow. My grandma told the family they were throwing her around in there like a sack of potatoes. There wasn't enough proof to show anything happened. My grandma ended up passing away a month later. Don't send your family here unless you want them to die read more

Stay away. They neglect the health of your loved one. They are understaffed. Good luck trying to find a staff member. And once you loose your loved one, they steal their personal items!! The ONE thing my loved one had with her besides her clothes is now gone! You have to be heartless to steal someone's personal items after they have passed. My elderly mother in law was sent to Golden Gate Rehabilitation from Staten Island hospital after she hurt her back. We figured she would be in there for a couple of weeks. After a couple of weeks, there was a meeting in which it was decided that she needed to be there for a couple of more weeks. Although we were surprised, we thought they knew best. 5 days before her discharge date, my mother in law calls me on a Friday at 3:30 pm saying that she has to leave because her insurance did not cover her until the time she needed and in fact they stopped paying 3 days prior. Someone came to her and told her that she already owed $1200 and if she waited until Monday, she would owe $1800 and she had to leave by 6pm and was going to take a taxi home (by herself). I called the the social worker and asked if she thought my mother in law was able to take a taxi by herself. She told me that she believed that my mother in law was in able to do so - and it would be best for her to use her walker. We don't live in Staten Island and had plans for that evening but there was no way way that my mother-in-law (her walker and the 4 bags she had with her) could possibly manage to make it home by herself in a taxi. What kind of rehab-nursing home would do such a thing? Isn't the rehab facility supposed to know whether they are getting paid? Scaring an elderly woman with the fear of a large medical bill is really wrong leading her to risk her safety. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. read more

Many thanks to the Aides, nurses, administrative, and Social work staff at Golden Gate for assisting my Dad for the last month after release from the Hospital due to a fall. I know my dad was a difficult patient, but the professionals at the Rehab ensured that he was safe, well fed and clean. read more

The staff is extremely nice and helpful. My grandma went from being SO sick and dangerously thin from new broadview manor to this place and she looks amazing. She's eating she's happy and I see first hand the nurses taking care of her. Idk why this place has such low stars, but from what I've seen it's working wonders for my grandma. She's 96 years old so her doing well says a lot. read more

Stay far away. You will regret it for the rest of your life if you put a loved one in this faclility. The administration is awful. The Social Service dept is a nightmare. They do not answer questions. Each person you ask a question of, passes you onto to another one. If you need to advocate on behalf of your loved one they will do everything possible to make it difficult for you. They over medicate the patients so that caring for them is easier. They put them all in a room that is chaotic, crowded, smells beyond words, and they treat the patients like crap. The halls are crowded with patients in chairs, unocuupied wheelchairs, food carts, and nurses stations. The elevators are ridiculously slow and one of the two is broken quite a bit. The staff ignores you if you need help. I had to carry my mother out myself, and get her into a wheel chair for a trip to my home. NO ONE OFFERED TO HELP ME. They were all busy. They always tell you they are busy. If you loved one needs care, love and attention DO NOT SEND THEM HERE. The food is awful, the bathrooms are filthy, the staff is indifferent. If you are looking for dementia care, they have no clue how to handle it. I had very high hopes when I placed my Mom here so please know this is not a frivolous gripe. I specifically asked the staff to check my Mom for a UTI over and over and over again and was ignored. I finally had to summon an ablulance to the facility to get her to a hospital. My Mom died as a result of their utter disregard for her condition. She was physically/medically in very good shape when she was placed here. Within 3 months she deteriorated to a shell of the woman she was. And that was with me going there every single day to try to help. I had finally found a place to transfer her to [which took me 3 months as I started looking almost immediately after I saw what went on there] when she was admitted to hospital. I was so close to getting her better care; It just took so long with all the red tape they we are put thru for trying to care for our parents. read more

Please do not send your loved ones there this place is horrible and will have your your loved ones suffer more and get sicker .They neglect and abuse their patients only care about getting paid the place is filthy they don't check on you just have you sitting in your bed and sometimes laying in your urine or feces .I know people who have sent their family there where some died in their care and others got worst and transferred out of there ASAP please people we need help in protecting our loved ones don't send them there we need to do something about this place and shut them down IMMEDIATELY!!!! read more
