Dr Thakkar is fine although I had to do a second sleep study because I was told Medicare required it, and then when Medicare refused to pay it, they came to me for payment, which I refused and they eventually dropped. The staff has always been a problem to deal with. Incompetency from twice forgetting to give me my SIM card back from my CPAP and refusing to mail it so I had to make a trip.... to taking 2 weeks, many phone calls and utter frustration to get a simple CPAP supply refill faxed to the supplier. Today I was told " Because you had not been seen in over a year the request did get discarded." I've been a patient for over 6 years. I was told everything from "We never received a request for refill" to "We received the request on the 24th and it was processed a few days after that...I show it was faxed back on the 30th." 6 DAYS!!!!??? 4 phone calls, one email, 3 fax requests from my supplier, and a phone call message today full of excuses to get a simple prescription filled?! Wow, this place is incompetent in so many ways. The receptionist lied about her not being able to make an appointment initially and asked me to wait for a call back. Another girl that called back put me on hold for 15 minutes after I confirmed the appointment date and time. Never came back to the phone. So I handed up and called half an hour later. The receptionist came to the phone, they had no record of my appointment and now the receptionist who said she couldn't schedule before said she can schedule now and gave me an appointment almost 2 months out. She also lied about not having my referral because it was her that confirmed before she received my email and referral. You cannot also ask for the manager to file the complaint. They pretended they didn't hear. Stay away from this place. read more

The entire staff especially Dr. Thakkar , Ali, Marie, Habiba and tech Tony are all professional, courteous and help you feel at ease during the sleep study process. It took more than eight months to find out that Dr. Thakkar couldn't help me.  She had me retake a recent sleep test - I guess sleep doctors don't trust each other.  She prescribed a BiPAP machine and had me try CBT-I.  Neither helped so she offered to refer me to Stanford's sleep center.  Golden Gate Sleep Center (GGSC) doesn't have a patient portal - just someone answering the phone and taking messages.  So the only way to communicate with the doctor is to schedule an appointment, which will take multiple months.  While I was waiting to find out that GGSC couldn't help me, I received numerous invitations to the grand opening of GGSC's new San Ramon clinic.  It seems like Dr Thakkar was more interested in growing her business than helping existing patients. read more

Unless you have a lot of patience I would not recommend Golden Gate Sleep Centers. I am an existing patient and after being re-scheduled twice I went to my 2:40 appointment today 10/24/25. I arrived 10 minutes early and was promptly checked in. After waiting for 1 hour and 10 minutes I had run out of patience and let the receptionist know that I would be leaving. I expected the receptionist to say that he would go to the back and see if he could find out how much longer it would be. Instead he just apologised and let me go out the door. It took months to get a consultation. It took months to get the actually sleep test scheduled. I went into the location to sleep as the last contact I received from this location was an approved confirmation of my appointment. I show up after waiting MONTHS and MONTHS. I just want a solution to my sleep issues. They tell me the appointment was canceled due to insurance reasons. Why did nobody tell me within the 3.5 month wait? No email? No call? No text? Awesome. A total of half a year to realize they won't take my insurance and only learning this the night of the sleep study. Staff was kind enough but the system is flawed if patients can slip through the cracks. Find somewhere more reliable. read more

They seem to be very unprofessional once you leave the office, Received a device for treatment it has been a struggle , it would of been informative if they told me that I would be charged for the device. Also , even though you pay before you get seen. I have the disappointment of dealing with Ari , who is beyond unprofessional and demands payment . .. as my first email from her, after telling her how unprofessional she is , she ignored me .. until she sent out another email demanding payment because they messed up on insurance. This review is for their account managers and technicians. I'm so grateful to come across Sherri one of their case managers. She is kind, warm and understood our situation; she accommodated my son as soon as there was a spot available. And even after the sleep test was completed Sherri was very responsive and helped us with follow ups. I did not catch the technicians name that got my son set up but she was also very kind and put my son at ease at his lab appointment. She took great care in making sure everything is in place to get good reads for the docs to review. We didn't have the opportunity to meet any of the docs in the clinic since we were outside referrals, so whole we wait for responses from the specialists, decided to write this well-deserved review for a team that is instrumental in getting to the root of our son's sleep disturbances. read more

We came here for a sleep apnea test for my 9yr old son. First I was a little nervous after reading the reviews. But to my surprise it was totally opposite of what I read. The center was clean. The staff was amazing he explained to my 9yr old son everything he was doing as he was doing it. He let him help so he could get use to the wires. Definitely would recommend this place. read more

My initial experience with Golden Gate sleep centers was quite positive. I saw a physician who recommended a sleep study. The sleep study was scheduled in a timely manner, and the results were shared with me. But that's where this experience comes off the rails. They were supposed to send my prescription to a sleep apnea equipment company, but apparently failed to do so in a timely manner. I learned this from calling the sleep apnea equipment company. Finally, after I called Golden Gate, they did send the prescription, but it was incomplete and could not be processed. The sleep apnea equipment company made several attempts to get Golden Gate sleep centers to provide the needed information, but they failed to respond. So, I had to leave another message with Golden Gate. No one ever answers their phone number. So, months after my sleep study I still have no equipment, and no treatment for my condition. Trust me, I'm sure you can do better with other sleep centers in the area. read more

I had an appointment with the Golden Gate Sleep Center about 6 months ago because I was having sleep problems after the birth to my second kid. First of all, Sherri, who is the assistant of Dr. Tahakkar was very good, responsive and helped me very much. I chose this sleep center based on the high ratings in yelp and Google. However, when I had an appointment with Dr. Thakkar, it was a big disappointment for me. The appointment was online due to Covid, which is fine. The appointment took only 10 minutes, Dr. Tahakkar asked me only some administrative questions, and told me that I need to have a sleep study. After that, she asked me to hold on some moment, as she needed to look at availability for the sleep study, and then she did not come back again, and, her assistant showed up.This appointment was a disappointment because of below reasons: 1) Dr. Tahakkar was very rude, she got off the call without telling me anything. She also did not send me any follow up notes if it was an emergency for her. 2) She did not try to understand the route cause of my sleep problems, instead she concluded that I need a sleep study less than 10 minutes and the sleep study is a costly procedure (both time and money). 3) She did not let me ask my questions, even I prepared a list of questions before the appointment and I did not have a chance to ask those questions. Having sleep problems is very difficult and I was expecting a lot from Dr. Tahakkar before this appointment. After this bad experience with Dr. Tahakkar, I got an appointment from Palo Alto Medical Foundation Fremont sleep study, and the doctor from this center took his time, the appointment took 30 minutes, asked me a lot of questions to understand the route cause of my sleep problems. This doctor from Palo Alto Medical Foundation Fremont also said that I did not need a sleep study. Please do not go to this sleep center, and find another professional sleep center or doctor that can take your problems seriously. read more

I have never experienced such awful treatment. Receptionist was very rude. Emergency with the weather. Called prior to their 48 hr window, no answer. Called first thing following morning allowing for 2 full days of business. They want to charge $300. Inexcusable. Do I leave child alone at home, flight to his moms cancelled due to weather..... Very rude, and dismissive staff. I made an appointment and show up to be told. I don't actually have an appointment. It's a phone call tele appointment. Very upsetting but OK maybe that was my mistake. The lady asked me to go sit in the car and someone will call me. 45 minutes after my scheduled time somebody calls me to say oh no this appointment was just a phone call to make an appointment in the future. Makes no sense. complete insincere apology for being late for the call and also for the miscommunication. I don't understand how this place has high ratings. I guess when you get in maybe they're good. But they don't seem to care about their patients. I suffer from debilitating sleep issues and have been waiting for this appointment to be told oh, the next available time is a couple months out. and again, I had an appointment simply for them to get on a phone call to make an appointment for me. My daughter came to golden gate sleep center in Danville to get checked out for sleep apena. She suffers from dizziness because she has pots and wanted to get checked out further. They charge a crazy amount of money and claimed that our insurance wouldn't cover any of the cost. Two visits later and over $3,000 she does not have sleep apnea! Doctor thakkar did not even see her just a phone visit and tried to get her in right away for a second unnecessary appointment. My daughter does not have sleep apnea, Nothing even close! They claimed that she did, told her she had to come again and also get fitted for mask! All craziness! They will not return our money and they haven't even tried to get money ftom our insurance the second go around. The first time they said insurance denied it because there wasn't proof she had sleep apnea. Second time they told her she had it but never followed through with our insurance company. Later sent us another random bill for $585 no clue what that was even for. My daughter has recently seen a specialist at Stanford in Palo Alto for a second opinion who told her she does NOT have sleep apnea. Beware! read more

Was ok. Wish it could have been a little more kid friendly. Bed was comfortable facility was clean. After set up and at the time of wake up it was about 5 1/2 hours of sleep. I felt as if they were there to get a job done and they did that great but definitely no warm and fuzzies. read more

I've had several sleep studies, this was ok. They did the job, but room was stuffy, wires took a long time to place, no lamp, just the bare bones necessities. Woken up at 5am, globs of glue in hair that was hard to remove. Nothing like prior studies, but ok. read more

I can't put zero Star and must put something so I pick the lowest. My appointment with Dr Thakkar was a disaster. I made an appointment and was told $125 is my portion after insurance to see her. In my visit in a bedroom like room she talked to me for few minutes that if I get headaches I most likely have sleep apnea. No checking of vital or anything. No health history discussion or anything. After not even 10 minutes there she said I must make appointing sleep over to be monitor. I told the lady ( in a far room by lobby) who was going to schedule me I will get back to her I was disappointed at the session and how quickly she's pushing a over night monitoring cause of my light snoring and few headaches here and there and on top of everything matter got worse by getting an extra charge of nearly$80. This is scam. Unprofessional and total lies. After complaining to the manager I was told that person who made the appointment made a mistake in the estimate. Seriously.
