I started my acupuncture journey a little apprehensive. I had never been before had heard mixed reviews. However between Kirsten and Vanessa I'm now a total believer in the power of acupuncture. I've been going because of some knee pain I've been suffering with for the last five years and anxiety. The acupuncture mixed with cupping has made a huge different for my knee! My anxiety has also made massive progress since going. I'm not sure how it all works, but it does work! The set up here is amazing. I love the calming rooms with heated tables, relaxing music and warming lamps. I generally take a nap and wait for the needles to do their magic. Oh and the needles aren't scary at all! For years, I have suffered from migraines and chronic sinus infections, until I sought out Kirsten Spainhower. After seeing countless doctors who prescribed quick fixes (antibiotics, pain relievers, etc.) which frankly were no longer working and harming my body, I was desperate to find relief. During my initial intake session, Kirsten was so kind and caring. Before my first session with acupuncture, I was skeptical and nervous. However, Kirsten made me feel so calm and cared for, and when it was over I knew Better Balance Acupuncture + Wellness was the right place for me! Now after nearly 10 sessions, my headaches (which were occurring on a weekly basis) are nearly nonexistent and I have not had a single reoccurring sinus infection! On top of all of that, I have more energy, clarity, sleep better at night, and feel less anxious - for example, Kirsten, who knows my stress levels run high as a Graduate Student, treated points on my body to help with stress during finals week. I don't think I've ever felt so calm during tests in my life! As for feeling skeptical and nervous, I am now a firm believer in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and I greatly look forward to my routine visits with Kirsten. My first consultation and treatment went very well at this acupuncture clinic with Kirsten. She was extremely thorough in crossing all of her T's and dotting all of her I's when learning my health history... I felt like she really got a scope of what my body has been through in my 30 something years on earth. The needles themselves were very gentle. No pain at all and quite relaxing. With some relaxation music I drifted off into a nice half sleep like state until she came in to wake me sometime later to take out the needles. Highly recommend this practice. After a couple of years of on and off back pain that I would brush off as stress, I finally decided to do something about it. The pain wasn't from stress, and my doctor couldn't provide any relief without having to take some pill that would eventually cause other issues later.. so 2 months ago I made an appointment with Kristen and I'm hooked! It's not a quick fix but after a full month of appointments (2 every week) I've noticed the changes. I don't wake up with back pain anymore, and I'm no longer suffering from a constant aching upper back. The best part is the knot under my shoulder blade is GONE! The pain that radiated from that knot was so unbearable I would imagine jamming a knife in it and physically pulling it out. No need now! Karen helped me so much with my sciatica! I used to get only one or two episodes a year, but this year it's been pretty chronic the last few months. She did ONE treatment on my hand {somehow it's connected to your sciatic nerve} and my pain was gone...and even better, it has stayed gone. The same night and for all 3 days following, I had very physically and emotionally exhausting challenges {delivering many goat babies} and was not taking as good of care of myself as I try to, but not once did my sciatica act up. When I first decided to try acupuncture to treat my acid reflux, I was skeptical that it would have much of an impact on my symptoms. I've suffered from heartburn for 20+ years and have tried all types of treatment options, including surgery. Within a few months I was off of medication completely, and have been heartburn-free for over a year. I am a four year cancer survivor, doing well overall but overwhelmed by the debilitating nausea from the every 28 day chemotherapy. After trying several practitioners and many medications with very limited results I was referred to Kirsten Spainhower at Better Balance. Kristen was friendly, knowledgeable and very thorough, taking a detailed medical history from me for 30 to 40 minutes before beginning the hour long acupuncture therapy. Dr Floyd is amazing! I followed her over from her previous office because I just couldn't let her go.. what brought me in was infertility and to help with egg quality.. I first noticed how acupuncture helped with my monthly cycles and I went from having terrible cramps to none at all. I also REALLY noticed the difference between doing an egg retrieval without acupuncture vs egg retrieval with acupuncture.. the recovery was SOO much better. Dr Floyd was with me at my transfer and did treatment on me before and after, we had a successful transfer first time around. She has now treated me this entire pregnancy. I had a placenta abruption and was spotting for weeks.. I saw Dr Floyd and the following day my spotting had stopped. She is now helping me with my plantar fasciitis and working on getting my breech baby to flip around. I highly recommend Better Balance and especially Dr. Karen Wright! The office staff is very welcoming and I appreciate the ease of making appointments on their website. Karen is so comforting and easy to talk to. I was so skeptical at first but acupuncture and cupping have changed my life! I originally sought out acupuncture for my tennis elbow. I could not reach for anything above my head without horrible pain and my grip was very weak, all on my dominant side. I had been to the orthopedic surgeon for evaluation and 2 injections which helped temporarily reduce the pain. After the second one wore off and the pain returned, the doctor wanted to do surgery. Not wanting surgery, I tried acupuncture for the first time. My pain lessened with each treatment and was completely gone in 2 months (about 8 treatments). Since then, Karen has worked on my tense neck and shoulders with much success. This review is for acupuncture treatments I received from Kirsten. I was 39 weeks pregnant and my OB wanted to medically induce me due to having a previously large baby. I, however, really wanted to go into labor naturally and on my own. Kirsten responded within an hour of me contacting her and got me in for an appointment the next day. 3 hours after my last treatment with her I went into labor on my own. My delivery was fast and easy and I contribute this to acupuncture. Kirsten is extremely nice and very knowledgeable about the mind, body and how acupuncture can treat and heal many ailments. AMAZING!!! First of all, I am not an alternative medicine person, I've never been to an acupuncturist, I don't go to a chiro, and barely know what essential oils are. I dropped a 130 barbell on my chest, bruising and cracking my ribs. So after a week of excruciating pain a friend recommended Better Balance Acupuncture. The first thing I noticed coming in her office were all the diplomas on her wall, impressive. Kirsten asks a bunch of questions to understand my issues. I then lay on the table and she says me to take a deep breath, the pain was a 9 out of 10. She assesses me and then inserts 3 needles in my leg (1st time ever for me). It hurt a little, she must have found the right spots. She then asks me to take a deep breath. I couldn't believe it. The pain in my chest was now 4 out of 10. After leaving the 1st time, I was so much better. After going 3 times over a week's time I was able to spend 5 days in Vegas without hardly any pain. UNBELIEVABLE I HIGHLY recommend Kirsten.
