We used Golden Locksmith to rekey our new house after we closed. Joey, the owner, was extremely responsive through yelp. He answered all of my questions quickly and gave me a price for the job I indicated. He set up an appointment at my desired time, no problem. His tech was politely waiting at the house when we arrived (10 minutes early). His tech, Johny, was a good sport about us not having power at the house (we forgot to turn on our utilities prior to the house closing, whoops!) and he had a big light he could use as it was after sunset. He was able to assess all of our locks, and let us know what our options were for rekeying the house. We opted to spend a little more to get a new lock as the existing lock would have meant we needed 2 different types of keys for the front and back doors and we wanted matching for both. Joey was very courteous. After requesting a quote thru yelp message and answering within 2 minutes, I told him my location and told me how much time it will take him to arrive. While I was waiting for him to arrive he kept calling my to update on his arrival time. When he arrived he looked inside my van and gave me a written quote, I agreed and signed it. May be fine for simple stuff. However, The guy from Golden did not touch my door lock. He looked at it with the cylinder poking out and said he had to replace the entire lock set. He said he could tell it was irreparably broken. This seemed odd to me so I called another locksmith for a second opinion. The second opinion was that it is easier to change out the whole lock set than to mess with the cylinder when it was not simple and straightforward. Had to think on this a day - was I going to switch locksmiths? Then I could not remember who I had called for a second opinion so I called a 3rd locksmith. Now I was told that a) Baldwin locks have a lifetime warranty and b) my lock could be repaired by changing out the cylinder. My hardware supplier confirmed, and confirmed that this Baldwin lock was surely reparable because Baldwin makes good locks. So, the first locksmith was uninformed about Baldwin, (as was his company when I called to say "never mind") AND he was not interested in repairing my perfectly good lock. Response was rapid after my call and availability to schedule was easy. The issues were that I ended up paying far more than I was quoted on the phone due my having a lock that was out of date. It would be nice to have had mention of that possibility prior to a quote. As well, I have gotten the run around and they have dropped out of communication after I let them know that their van left an oil/grease based stain on my driveway that I was looking to have them rectify. It seemed expensive but there again they were nice enough to let me know if I waited until Monday it would be less. So way later I was called my Keys had been found and turned into a store. I highly recommend Golden Locksmith. When we moved into a new house a couple of years ago, we had Joey come change our locks. I emailed him one evening to schedule our first appointment, and he responded to me within an hour and scheduled an appointment for the next day. While here, he discovered that some of the lock fixtures weren't really thick enough for our doors and said we'd want to think about replacing the entire lock fixtures at some point. Well, a few months later, we had problems locking one of the doors, and he came back out, and it turned out he'd been right -- the issue was about the locks not really fitting properly in our thick doors. He special ordered new fixtures that would fit all of our doors. Fast forward to today and we had an issue with one of the locks getting jammed when we had one of our door frames repaired. Our contractor had trouble finding another lock to replace this one, so I called Joey, who identified the locks and told me exactly what I needed to do to get it replaced by the manufacturer since that brand comes with a lifetime warranty. Then was rude when I asked about the price and threatened me with a visit fee when I wanted to call someone else to ask about the price. I found myself in a situation where I needed a locksmith when I was on my way out of town so my neighbors could get in to take care of the dogs. The locksmith was at my house within 10 minutes. They took all the precautions to make sure that they had my (the homeowner's) permission to let the neighbor in and had me on the phone and sending proof that it was my address. So... my life is pretty much in shambles right now. Today, I came home from work and my car key decided that today would be the day to bend so that it wouldn't fit the ignition of my car. He has gotten me out of my locked file cabinet dilemma, has fixed stuck locks and more recently he corrected several mixed up door locks to get them all on the same key. I paid about $104 dollars for them to break the door knob. 30 dollar for them to come and I thought Joey was the guy that told me that it would vary from 35-75 dollar depending on the lock. But it was already 75 dollars from the start Oran the man who helped me didn't even look at the lock and it was already priced. He also wasn't able to pick the door knob so he had to drill it to open it. I just wish I didn't have to pay 104 dollars for someone to destroy my door knob. Quick service. I bought a home and wanted the locks rekeyed that afternoon/evening due to possible missing keys, etc. I called and they were able to come over within an hour and a half. The locksmith was quick, too. My only complaint: The repairman installed one of the locks backwards ... the lockable part facing inside the home and the switch part facing the garage, so anyone with a garage key could open the door and come right in. I called him after he left and he came back the next day to fix it, but it's a step that could have been avoided. (Yes, I realize that it's just two screws to undo and fix myself, but the point of having them rekeyed was me not having to do it myself.) They were courteous though, and all the locks work smoothly. read more
