I've been to countless thrift stores and usually am put off by one thing about them. Generic items, nasty store atmosphere, overpriced merch, and overall lack of good finds. This store is one of the first thrift stores I've been to that not only succeeded in having great items but succeeded in those items being unique and insanely well priced. The store is nice and pretty sizable, lots of stuff to look at but you REALLY have to look hard and ask the owner if you have questions about items tucked away (especially the ones under the register, those are baller). I got some sweet orange shades, a blue corduroy hat, and a vintage 80s label maker for... wait for it... only 2 dollars TOTAL! These guys are in an awesome location and I definitely say check it out if you can. - LJG EDIT: I hear the og owner Redd has sadly passed and considering he was one of the best parts of this store I'm heartbroken to hear the news. He was so kind and his stories were neat as heck! Rest in piece Redd

Yelp 100 challenge 47/100 Golden Oaks thrift store is in the heart of running springs enterance and my moms fav location to stop and donate. This location is run by volunteers and has a variety of knicknacks, household stuff, electronics, clothes, shoes, ski and camping gear. Its really cheap and a fun place to stop. There are antiques and something unique for everyone. Donations are welcome and they will provide tax reciepts for write offs.

The store is clean and easy to browse, with a wide mix of vintage, rustic, and quirky pieces. The prices can be a little high for a thrift store, but every now and then you stumble on a great find that makes it worth the visit. It is not the kind of place where you're guaranteed a bargain, but it is definitely a good spot for anyone who enjoys the thrill of the hunt.

When I spied a 16" hand cut crystal antique vase for $40, I then became hooked! I used to be an antique dealer and this piece was amazeballs! When we are out running errands I'll ask my husband to make a quick stop at this store and again and again I find antique hand cut crystal vases for less than $20 and I always buy them. We have many gardens at our property with over 100 roses, so it is a delight to be able to showcase them in such glorious antique handmade vases and can even give them away at that price. The proceeds benefits the Boys & Girls Club, so it's a win-win. I'm saving all my good donations for this store in gratitude.

In July, I brought two rings to The Family Jewels in Running Springs. One was my vintage engagement ring, which was thin and broken in two places. The other was my mother's ring, for which I had lost the stone. I brought them into the store, and really enjoyed the conversation with the owner and his friends. We agreed that he would repair the engagement ring and he would get prices for me on a replacement stone for the other - either an opal or a blue zircon. Weeks went by. I called again in mid-August after I hadn't heard anything. I was told that he would have to go to LA to repair the ring and get pricing for the other, and he hadn't been able to go yet. I was frustrated, but thanked him and waited some more. Today, I called again, and was told the same story - he needed to go to LA to do it. Then, he went looking for the rings and couldn't find them. Needless to say I was worried at this point - he sounded completely confused and disorganzed, but he said he'd call me back. When he did, he said he couldn't find them because they were all done! I was shocked - I never received a call with a quote, nor did I receive the choice of stones as we had discussed. I noted this in frustration, and his response was, and I quote, "Whatever, babe. I don't know what to tell you. Just come by and get them." My mouth was on the floor, and I just laughed and said ok. An hour later, I drove over to pick them up. I walked in and gently said hello - I was unsure what to expect. Immediately, he said, "OH... Are YOU the girl who yelled at me on the phone?" I absolutely did not yell at him, but I agreed that I was frustrated for very good reasons. He told me I didn't have to pay, but I insisted on paying for the work... Until I saw the rings. I didn't like the stone he chose for my mother's ring ("It was cheaper!" he says, but removed it). And my engagement ring, while repaired, no longer even remotely fit my ring finger - barely on my pinkie! When I said this, he said it was the same size as I left it, but it clearly wasn't. Then his friends (who hang out there) all stood up and moved toward me, yelling that it was somehow MY fault! While I have an appreciation for their loyalty to their friend, that was NOT ok. I'm so disappointed that almost two months later, I have an engagement ring that no longer fits and am still without a stone for my mother's ring. No, I didn't pay for any of it (at his suggestion), but I would gladly have paid for what I asked for. Stay away.
