My mother passed away December 27,2021. She had been a resident at Vista Springs Holland Meadow…read morefor 4 years. She chose this location based on the Administrator at that time. The first year was very good. Then the administrator retired. During the next 3 years they changed administrators 4 times. The last few months they had two co-directors. The Wellness Director was the LPN in charge of patient care. The other Director was in charge of the Business office. I am an RN and have worked in various fields of nursing care for the past 30 years. I know that working with assisted living members can be a challenge. That is one of the reasons I made myself available to the staff for calls, assistance in care, etcetera with regards to my mother. My mother was 96 when she passed away. It was her choice to die with dignity. Therefore when her health declined, August 2021, we requested Hospice of Holland to assist the staff at Vista Springs. In November she became wheelchair bound so her care level increased. She needed assistance with all activities of daily care, such as bathroom assistance and she took all meals in her room. Both the Hospice RN and myself communicated frequently with the Wellness Director concerning my mothers requests and needs regarding care. December 19, 2021 I was informed by Hospice that my mother had not had a shower in three weeks. After communicating with the staff, talking to my mother, and making an assessment of her room, I sent an email to both directors. I requested that her clothes be changed daily, that she be given a shower twice a week with assistance, I would be taking her laundry home weekly and I was available for them to contact me with any questions. At that time I increased my weekly visits to two or three. I never received any communication from either Administrator regarding this email. December 27 I was with my mother from 8 am to 9:30 pm. It was evident that she was dying. The only time any aide came into her room was when I put a light on for assistance in moving her. The Wellness Director came in late in the afternoon to help move her up in bed. She seemed surprised by her condition and the fact that I was sitting at her bedside holding her hand. In my experience, as a nurse, when a patient was dying they were placed at the top of the list for care. The Wellness Administrators attitude was extremely disturbing. My mother died with family around her at 9:23pm. The next day my husband and I were there, cleaning out her suite for 3 hours. The only people who came to offer condolences or offer assistance was one of the cleaning staff and staff from the maintenance department. Neither Director spoke to us although both were in the building. Four years ago Vista Springs of Holland Meadows was known as "The Cadillac" of assisted living. That is no longer true. If the corporation does not take seriously who they place as Administrators they may someday be looking at a negligent complaint. Quality of care is directly related to training and appreciation of staff as well as effective communication with family and staff. One of the websites I looked at, after my mother died, had 28 reviews listed. As I read the reviews I noted that a number of the positive reviews were by staff and at least eight of those had been posted all the same week. To me, that is quite disturbing. The negative reviews were posted at various times and were from family members of residents. On other web sites there were negative reviews from staff posted at different times. Please be very diligent when looking for an assisted living home for your loved one. Susan W Holland, Mi.

This is the BEST Assisted Living in West Michigan! The staff go above and beyond in everything that…read morethey do. They are always hustling to ensure that every need is met in a timely fashion. Being a small community of only 34 beds, the staffing ratios are insanely high! The staff have a great team approach and love to care for each community member like they would their own family. Even though the rooms are spacious and the layout is grand, it has a great close-knit community feel. We constantly have community members playing cards and games or enjoying another activity. We have a BEAUTIFUL courtyard and plenty of space for family to enjoy. There is even a full-service dining room for families to create a meal together, if they would like. We have a chapel for Bible study and Sunday services. Even management is very hands on as they get involved in care and activities such as the weekly manis and pedis. It really doesn't get much better than this. I would HIGHLY recommend Vista Springs Holland Meadows to anyone and everyone!

Mother was there for 3 weeks. The staff was very attentive to getting their money and paperwork,…read morebut once that was settled mom was treated like an intrusion to their schedule. She fell and was on the floor for over an hour until my dad managed to get someone to come help. The staff then blamed my father for her falling. Crazy. I found her food tray upside down on her bed (she couldn't feed herself) with the food on the floor. Rather than cleaning up the mess, the staff walked on it grinding it into the carpet. The evening care workers were disinterested, abrupt, and most unfriendly towards mom. When she cried out in pain from their moving her, she was threatened by the staff with restraining devices. My dad and I were quite disappointed that we chose that place for her. I could not in good conscience recommend this for a parent. My father wept daily that he had placed her there. She passed three weeks later. Finally, there is a credit on mom's account, and the staff seems to refuse to receive my calls or relay messages to discuss the matter. Mom had been under home health care workers for the prior 7 months and the care was astonishingly different. At $6,000 dollars per month plus a $1500 dollar fee, it sure is a great money-maker, but a typical big-business system of assembly-line care. If you truly care for your loved one, you will do more research. Try small group house care. Much cheaper and 100% better care.

We were very pleased with the care our mother received. The staff all showed a caring attitude to…read moreus as well as mom. They worked well with Hospice. We visited often and at various times and always found a warm, loving atmosphere.

My mother in law was here from December to September. There are a couple of good employees there…read morebut most are there to collect a check. Let me break it down for you. *Housekeeping I'm pretty sure the entire length of her stay nothing was cleaned in her room. Dusting, vacuum, tub, shower it was all filthy. *Dining room if your loved one naps through a meal they will miss that meal, no one comes to get your family member. It costs extra! They used to deliver water to each room a couple times a day. Then they had Hydration station down the hallway. So if your loved one isn't a person who likes to walk they will not get drinks throughout the day. *Management- the manager is unapproachable. He is not a friendly man and should not be managing a senior housing place. * Medical or Med techs. There were a couple good ones there. Who knows if they are still there. We had missing insulin. Most of her meds I took care of but did have them manage her diabetes. They didn't always take her blood sugar finger pokes or they didn't write them down. Because they didn't do all her meds they could not do a sliding scale for her insulin. She was taken by ambulance at least 4-5 times during her stay for falls. Usually because of UTI's because she wasn't drinking enough water. *Security~ the building is supposed to be locked down at night but I walked in several times after dark. * activities- there were a couple activity directors there during her stay. No one was ever successful in getting my MIL to join in. * maintenance- constant problems with her cable TV and no one at night seemed to want to help her. Leaky faucets, closet light that didn't work all the time. I would not recommend this place
