I found this company via google as they are the very few who offers bible restoration. There's one woman here, Irene, who has done this type of restoration for years. I didn't know if I could trust just anyone handling by beloved bible as this bible has sentimental value to me. They are located in San Marcos - or more Vista . They're in an industrial building at the end of a cul de sac. No issues with parking as they share parking spaces with neighbors. I met Irene. We went through various options and prices on what she could do with my bible. Basically, she takes the bible home and works on it there. I guess bible restoration isn't part of Golden Rule Bindery per se. There were 2 price options. $90 to restore and use synthetic leather (which mine had but was peeling off after 10+ years) or $90 + $70 if you want option of real leather I opted for the $160 which, in hindsight, is a lot of money for one bible. Sis said I coulda bought 11 bibles for that amount but hey, none would have had the notes or sentimental value I've collected over the 10y right. Irene had my bible ready in less than 1.5 weeks! The new brown leather feels great. And the bible, now, feels sturdy and strong. I'd recommend this company if you have a bible that you want restored (and can afford to do so). read more

I've used Golden Rule Bindery's craftsmen for years. They have an associated print shop and editing skills. They even have/had a 3D folding shop, so they are pretty versatile. There are so few left with this suite of skills. I have used them for years for pamphlets, hard cover books, pamphlets, and restoration. They meticulously track a job until it leaves the shop. Golden Rule Bindery is hidden in an industrial park in San Marcos. It's pretty much a warehouse set-up with a small receiving office and much of the space is a dedicated work area. The kids were treated to a very detailed tour of the facility where old books are stripped down and given new life (or covers and spines if you will). The kids were also shown how their schoolwork (at the end of the year) will be bound and ready for showing off. Great owners, wonderful with the kids. Made me a bit sad though because hardbound books are being slowly fazed out by electronic versions. I do love the tactile feel of turning the page, but nothing beats a 1,000 books on the iPad. Dear Richie and Karen - The world is a better place with you in it. My husband has written his autobiography over the past 8 years. Now he is in the last stages of Pancreatic Cancer. He wanted very much to see his book bound and printed but time was short. My daughter and I came to you for help and help you did. You took the flash drive and the 12 photos and in less than 24 hours had put together an 8 x 10 beautifully bound 180 page autobiography. Richie, I think you must have stayed up all night working on this book. The next morning you called and said it was ready and we jumped in the car and came to get it. I was was disappointed in this company's bindery service. I work for a small academic library and we decided to have several of our books re-bound. Not only did the spines have missing vital information (titles?), but the covers did not have the original covers laminated on that we asked for. I will say that they fixed the issues once they were brought to their attention and the books themselves now have all the information we asked for. Overall, I'm sorry to say that I did not have a pleasant experience with this company. read more

I am writing this review in support of Irene's Book Restore. This gal took in my husband's 20 year old bible, that had well loved but needed serious attention! I had been looking for over 6 months to buy another bible for him, that had the same kind of "stuff" (for lack of a better word) the other bible had. I could NOT find one and I was ready to pay for it. I am so glad I didn't find one. I brought his bible, held together with duct tape (No joke) to the Golden Rule Bindery and they told me it would go home with Irene. I had faith as restoring bibles was her thing. In about a month, I got a call it was ready. I swear, it looked like the day I bought it, 20 years ago! I picked the same color and had it re-en-graved. Except it had all of his wonderful memories and hard work inside. You can ask Ken, I cried when I saw it. He was so pleased. Then I went around and showed all my friends and neighbors what a fine job she did. It was a little pricey but never ever better words were ever said, " You get what you pay for." And indeed I did.
