But, the food is so good I never remember to take pics when we get it and I REALLY wanted you to have a visual reference. Take-out reviewed only. Caltons has THE BEST mushroom egg foo young. Period. It has a gravy on top that is the perfect compliment to the tasty cloud of eggy goodness. I have ordered take-out for just that dish. Their Peking pork chop is sweet and tangy and worth a chopstick battle for who gets the last piece. The pea shoots in garlic (earth's best vegetable) is a decent take. Salt and Pepper squid slaps, even if a bit mild. Any of the "Chef's Dishes" have been awesome. I saw recently in an online menu they do dim sum and I'd like to eat in and try that. The prices have gone up post-plague (like everywhere) but are still reasonable. One of our "go to's". read more

Had family dinner last night with some relatives and overall it was ok. Spacious banquet hall in a strip mall that also happens to have a giant screen. When we got there at 6 it wasn't super busy but by the time we were done, every table was full. All that said, the food was thoroughly ok. There's a lot of Cantonese food in town and this has an average size menu and nothing particular stood out flavor wise. They got your standards like beef flat noodle, which they pile on the noodles, sweet and sour pork, eggplant and chicken, cashew chicken, beef broccoli type things. The one notable dish they have is the deep fried chicken and it's crisp but dry. Honestly the main flavor you taste is salt and msg. Complimentary sago for dessert. Still better than the Cantonese food that's available to me back home, but will say there's better in town. read more

Just came here for the first time and very impressed by the fast service and the food portions. they give a lot compared to other dim sum places especially their noodle dishes I ordered the crispy noodle with black bean sauce and I loved it! I will definitely come back for this it was HUGE had a great mix of assorted vegetables and meat they were not cheap this was $14 ONLY and it could feed 3 people. Their other dim sum dishes were standard and met my expectations for good dim sum. I also like how they leave the bottle of hot sauce on the side unlike the other dim sum places that make you ask for them and some people don't know dim sum taste better with this hot sauce! Went to this place for the first time, and all I can say is, "How did I not know about this place"?! Came on a Tuesday afternoon so it was easy to get a table. Service is fast which we really appreciated. The woman server was able to answer my questions in both English/Cantonese. We ordered 9 dishes. All were great value for your money compared to T-Pot, HK cafe, Forbidden City. The portion sizes were huge! The black beans spare ribs had a strange taste (pork tasted off) so I sent them back with no hassles, she took them off the bill right away. Would definitely return! read more

Fairly delicious, very busy traditional Chinese restaurant off McKnight, between Deerfoot and Center street. They take reservations but I don't think the restaurant really honors them. We had one for 8 pm and I think we were just lucky that a couple tables had cleared by the time we got there. There are specials on the Chinese menu where you can get dishes for as low as $10. We ordered a deep fried chicken dish for $10, a snow pea leaves and mushroom dish for about $16, and bitter melon hot pot (can't remember how much this was). The rice was $2/person. Portions are very generous and three dishes were enough for four adults plus leftovers. And as with most traditional Chinese restaurants, you get a free pork bone soup as a starter and dessert soup to finish your meal. Service was very slow but the food was good. Caltons is in the space that Tango used to occupy. The inside looks a little different from before. I think they got rid of the bar and the some booth seating in the middle of the space. We were here for dim sum on a Sunday. They seated us right away at the awkward seating area towards the southeast corner of the restaurant. It is a little tight in there but there weren't that many people in that area when we were there. The service was not bad either, but due to where we were seating the waitresses only came around when they were coming by to drop off food. Dim Sum dishes are $4.95 to $6.95... which is pretty much in line for dim sum nowadays with inflation and the higher minimum wage. The food was okay I thought. While certainly not the best dim sum in the city, having one more dim sum place in the city is definitely not a bad thing. I will return for dim sum or even dinner if I am in the area. read more

My first time trying caltons. Ordered the kung pao chicken and singapore noodles. Kung pao was super disappointing. I dont even think they gave me the right dish. It was too sweet, saucy and spicy. They put carrots, bell peppers, chestnuts, celery. They were cheap with it and didnt add enough chicken. I probably ate like 3 tiny pieces so it was more like a saucy veggie stir fry. Caltons is located in a strip mall with free parking, corner of McKnight Blvd and Edmonton Trail. We walked into a nice, clean restaurant with red and black furniture. The lady who waited on us is really nice and pleasant. She speaks good English and so we communicated well. We asked if there was free soup. The waitress said it was a bit early yet but if it's ready, she will bring out the soup. We ordered the following: - Pan Fried Shrimp with Dragon Fruit - love this sweet dish with the dragon fruit. The shrimp is lightly battered in a sweet reddish sauce. - XO fried beans with strips of pork - love this dish! The XO beans were nicely fried and that pork was so tender. - Chef's Special: Oyster Omelette - "Chinese Pizza" is what the waitress called it! LOL Liked the fish sauce to dip the oyster omelette in. We had finished dinner and the waitress came out with 3 bowls of free soup! It was such a good broth with pork, pork bones, bok choy. It was after we ate but who cares, it's good soup and it's free! This is our go-to restaurant for dim sum in Calgary. They have weekly specials range from $1.88 to $4.88, which you can order 2 of the same dish but limited to 1 choice. We always order their congee special and it always come out piping hot. We also like their rice rolls, shrimp dumplings, sticky rice...to name a few. Service is usually quick but highly recommend to make a reservation for the weekend. We tried their dinner menu too but we liked their dim sum more. read more

My first experience at Calton's was excellent. It was Chinese New Year and the food we ordered was so fresh and delicious. The second experience of ordering takeout was less than great. The food I ordered was a bit dry, over cooked and stale tasting. I'll have to try it a third time to decide if they just had an off day when I ordered takeout. They offer a dim sum as well so I'm looking forward to trying that. read more

Formerly a Vietnamese restaurant, we missed decent Chinese food in Calgary- remember we lived previously in Vancouver and still live in Vegas, so we are picky about our food. Ordered the Peking Duck, sweet and sour pork, garlic pea shoot tips and a seafood hot pot. Of these, the Peking Duck had very good flavor though not sliced the way it's supposed to be sliced. Sweet and sour pork was nicely flavored and the balance of fat to lean meat was perfect. The seafood hot pot was too watery for us and the pea shoot tips were decent. We went early and got good service - however, lots of groups showed up right after at 6pm on a Tuesday - with only 3 servers - we could see weekends being a problem; lots of Chinese here too which means to me a lack of quality Chinese restaurants in Calgary. Probably 3.5 . A friend recommended this place as the place to go in the north side of town. We ordered a few dishes including the "appetizer" deep fried shrimp wrapped crab claws at $6 a piece. They were really good. Then the Peking style pork with real pineapple served in a half pineapple shell. That was average taste although they were trying to impress with the presentation with half of a real pineapple shell. Likely cost us a few dollars more than had we just ordered plain version? Three kinds of seafood in a fried nest was tasty although the nest was not traditional nest but a fried sheet of phyllo type pastry. Had some decent amount of squid and a fair amount of scallops and shrimp which was a bit bland but had some wok hee. Really good service but still watch out for bias in upselling some of their lobster or crab dishes . they gave us complimentary tofu dessert and also they were a bit slow in getting the food out so they gave us house soup to tide us over. There weren't a whole lot of tables there so not sure what happens if they have to deal with lots of customers. Overall decent place. Will have to give them another try to confirm if good value for the money though. read more

The Peking duck is one of the better ones in Calgary - comparable to Ginger Beef on Country Hills Drive. The wrap is not too thick or oily and they are generous with the quantity. The lettuce wrap that comes with the Peking duck is very flavorful. Price is fair for the quality. Service is good considering it's a Chinese restaurant. read more

I wish I could give it no stars. This is the worst experience I've had in a long time. The Peking duck came out cold. The snow tea tip had no flavour. The fried garlic duck was literally soy sauce poured over chicken. The soup came out luke warm. The worst was the E noodle with ham and mushrooms. No flavour but soy sauce, and had a weird aftertaste. My mom was able to recook the dish at home and made it ten times better. There was no service what so ever. When you wave at him they look at you and walk away. Stay away guys or cook at home, it's probably taste better than the restaurant. read more

Don't bother if you don't have a reservation! This place is super busy and mainly made up of large tables for dinner. For calgary standards, the food was not too bad. Nothing special and your typical standard Chinese food. We had a large variety of dishes but nothing stood out from any other Chinese restaurant. We ordered at 2:30pm for a 6pm pick up on Christmas Eve. We ordered well in advance to avoid having to wait. I showed up at 5:55 and there were about 8 different groups inside waiting for their food. I stood in line and waited. None of the women working there even so much as looked at me to inquire about my order. They were too busy running around taking orders on the phone running back to the kitchen. At 6:15 I finally walked up and spoke to one of them and gave her my number. She said she would find out what was going on. That was the last I saw of her for 30 minutes. In the meantime I spoke to another woman and she said she would find out. She didn't come back to me with any update either. At 6:45 I asked the second woman again, where my food was. She again said she would find out. There were now about 15 or more different groups waiting for food and hardly any orders were going out but they were taking plenty of new orders on the phone and lying to people saying it would be about 30-45 minutes. I was not alone in my frustration. There were Skip the Dishes delivery guys waiting as long as I was for their orders as well. At 7pm they came to me requesting for me to pay for my order. I asked for a discount for the inconvenience of waiting on Christmas Eve instead of being with my family not to mention the poor customer service on top of it all. She then asked me if I still wanted the food and I said yes because at this point I didn't have any other options to go elsewhere (I would be at the back of the queue at any other Chinese restaurant). She proceeded to tell me that they hadn't even started making it yet!!! I told them all where to go and I didn't do it nicely. They deserved every word they got. I ended up getting McDonald's and honestly it was probably far better than whatever garbage Caltons restaurant was trying to pump out. Also, there was a guy that worked there who was sleeping in one of the booths. He got up every now and then without a mask on and walked back to the kitchen area with his hand down his pants scratching his butt. He'd come out a few minutes later, again not wearing a mask, and lay back down. He did this a few times. This was easily the WORST restaurant experience of my entire life. I have never had worse service or lack of care. They should have stopped taking orders if they couldn't handle what they already had. They are a greedy bunch of people with absolutely no clue of how to operate a business and I hope they FAIL big time! They do not deserve to survive through covid. Everyone trying to get a spot at this small Chinese restaurant for dim sum during lunch time, even though it was 1pm people were still trying to get a spots. Had some big tables going in and out from this place . One of the guys that use to work with me and now currently work here, that I've bump into . Not bad. This owner from this restaurant actually owes the Bbq house at the nw near t&t . Very good bbq house there ! Too bad this flower is too focus on this restaurant and not his bbq house . Went here for a family dinner and the waitress suggested a couple of different dishes than what we originally ordered. Took her suggestions and was extremely disappointed. The calamari with vegetables was extremely rubbery and in addition, we were charged an extra $3 for it without being advised of this. When paying for the bill, we were extremely dissatisfied with the service and food and therefore decided to not leave a tip. The waitress cashing us out instead guilted my mother-in-law to pay at least a $10 tip as "business is hard and they are working hard". Needless to say, we will never be going back. read more

Anyway me and my wife went for lunch ordered the the tofu seafood soup which is 13$ in the take out menu and to our surprise we were charged 30$ and the reason being seafood is expensive ( no lobster in the soup btw) so one stir fry and a soup was 50$ way over priced!!!!!!!!!! read more

On Feb 18-2018 we went to celebrate Chinese New Year in this restaurant. To our surprised order individual disk was denied and we were forced to order the package dinner for the reason that they were very busy with many customers waiting at the front door. We were NOT told about this when booking was made. Another surprised was the specified package dinner was different from their advertisement which comprises of better dishes.We have no choice but to accept what they have as most of the restaurants else where were packed too at this time. The food was lousy and the service was very poor.I think we were ripped off and WILL not return in future. read more
