I have been going to Golden Star in GRandle Prairie since 1995. I have always enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. Unfortunately last week I took my aunt (who was up from New Brunswick along with my mom and sister, raving the whole time how much I love this restaurant and have been going for 30 years. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I was disgusted by the meal and very embarrassed to have taken my family there. The meal was cold, tasteless and slimy. I would have complained but the server never came over to ask how it was. I spent most of the night embarrassed and apologizing to my guests for such an awful meal. I hope it was just a case of the cook having a bad moment but I will probably not go back. read more

All was good. Next time I'd ask for no cauliflower and substitute it with tofu instead. I'd go there again for sure.

Growing up in GP, the Golden Star was THE best restaurant ever. It was where we went to celebrate basically anything. (Of course, the best part was dropping coins into the fish pond...) I've been back a couple times since I left GP, and the place is basically the same. I've learned that the food here is definitely not authentic Chinese food, but it's still delicious, and the service is excellent. read more

We've been with this restaurant for a few years and generally its been the same order every time. Today they messed up on our order and when we called in to let them know, I can't believe how rude they were. They messed up on our mongolian chicken, forgot the sauce we asked on the side, gave us rice when we didn't order it, and completely forgot another dish i had specifically ordered so the people who don't eat seafood can have it.  We called to let them know like hey, our order got mixed up today and boy did we get the backhand of the worst customer service experience ever in GP! They denied messing up, and were incredibly rude! Reading some of the other reviews, I guess it isn't the first time they've messed up on the take outs. When we called, it was just to let them know so it doesn't happen again. Some ownership, or an apology would have been nice, or at the very least just some respect. Anyways I'm done with my rant, hopefully some employee of theirs sees this and fixes the take out mess ups and customer service for other people. Gross! Sweet and sour pork was heavily battered. Ginger beef looked like KFC flakes battered. Chicken chow mien noodles were bland, veg undercooked... don't get me started on the chicken fried rice. . NEVER AGAIN read more

Great food & generous portions, courteous staff, reservations accepted. Sometimes there is a waiting line but they try hard to keep that as short as possible. read more

Having travelled all the way from Calgary and family members ranting and raving about how good this place was we went out for dinner here. The service was fast and pleasant which is the only reason I am giving this 1 star. The food came out bland with no flavour and all of it came out a sickly grey. The only redeeming item we ordered was the lemon chicken and even that was a far cry from some food court Chinese food places. If this is the "best" grand Prarie has to offer I feel really bad for anyone who eats here. read more

In all the years I have been eating Chinese food and doing so in over100 restaurants I have never had Fried Rice this bad

Stayed at the Pomeroy for a couple nights and came here for a quick dinner. The Mongolian chicken was delicious, and the staff worked quick and were polite. Also a plus: First restaurant I've been to with a koi pond. 10/10 will eat here again if I'm ever in the area. read more

Always the favourite place to take family and friends. The food is excellent and the service is very good. Sadly we have to forego frequenting this Chinese restaurant because it is not accessible to people who use power chairs, scooters, and wheelchairs. read more

Average Chinese food served here, when we get delivery they never too long getting the food to the door

Some people were saying this place was delicious, so I figured I'd better eat here. I am a fairly open minded person so when we walked into this dark and dingy restaurant, I was a little surprised. But I figured you come for food not necessarily for the look. I have allergies, when I explained this to the waitress she was annoyed that I didn't order along with the group. It may have just been a bad day for her, but she told me that all I could eat was tofu and rice. Ha-ha, right. I ordered something else and had her confirm with cook that it did not have any ingredients that I am allergic too. Everyone received their food and about 10 min after everyone was served I asked her if mine was coming. She said 'the cook has just started your food'. 20min later I was served. There was absolutely no spice on my food there was a flavourless goo at the bottom though. I added salt and pepper and ate it, I didn't want to make a big fuss in front of everybody. It was definitely not Chinese food - soggy chow mein with veggies the size of the empire state. It tasted like instant chowmein noodles microwaved from frozen with undercooked veggies in a pool of water. I'm not good at cooking but my chow mein tastes 1000% better. There was something in the food that I was allergic too, not sure if it was an accident. But I won't be going to Golden Star again. read more

usually their food was good but they have failed in the last little while Their ginger beef and pineapple chicken balls are over priced and the sauces a 3 year old could make I think I will look for other options in the GP area read more
