Embrace some diversity maybe? Have some consideration for neurodivergents? Have a more pleasant bedside manner? I was referred to this practice by someone that i respect & trust so i tossed my shyness & inhibition aside & made an appt. For background i have adhd & skin picking & body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) are how i stim. I haven't found the right adhd med to help with it but thats another story. So i went to this dermatology center today with such high hopes. I have a few scars & 2 very inflamed abrasions on my face & i wanted to know if they were infected or if i needed a steroid of some kind. I just wanted a professional opinion. What i didn't want or need was to be talked to by the PA in a militant condescending manner or be shamed for my condition. I thought maybe PA's take the 'first do no harm oath' too but that's the first thing she did when she walked into the room. Harm. Plus there was no introduction. No consideration or shred of human decency. She just lit into me bombarding me with commands to do this & do that & to just leave my face alone. I wish it were that simple. She was clearly impatient with how long it took me to remove the blemish patches & when i had trouble she just dug into my face without asking & removed it even though it is apparent that the area was red & inflamed. So now it's more inflamed. Great. I felt violated because there was nothing gentle about the way she did it. I realize that i am the cause of the abrasions & scars. I realize that i caused a chemical burn by self treating my wounds. I didn't need her to underscore that. I needed legitimate help. A steroid? An antibiotic? An rx cream? But was told it was just a wound that needed to heal & to use vaseline until it heals. Alrighty then. Thanks for the tip. Then to top it off i was sitting on the exam chair when she & the MA or whoever she was made a few notes on the ipad and they both walked out and closed the door behind them. They did not say i could leave or tell me they were done or anything so i just sat there halfway expecting someone to come back with discharge papers.. then 10 min later the ma came back & was surprised that i was still there & seemed puzzled about it & i explained that you shut the door on me & didn't clarify that the visit had ended. So needless to say it was awkward from start to finish. My advice is don't go there if you are neurodivergent. It is not neurodivergent friendly in the slightest. The worst $55 copay ive ever spent. read more

You guys, this place is AWFUL! Def a reason they have such bad reviews. This is one of those places it's too big, and corporate for anyone working there to care. Don't believe me, just try calling them where most the calls are immediately put on hold, and then hold a second time, without even being asked if you can "please hold." Not to mention the provider Donna Pryor! This is the only type of environment a provider with her rude, harsh and uncaring ways would be allowed to work, she couldn't get away with it in a small, private practice. I've given this place three tries cause I know everyone has bad days. After being treated poorly with everyone from the snooty front desk to the brash doctor, I decided that was enough. And now I'm writing a review, in hopes no ones else has to endure what I did. Find a place that cares about their patients and doesn't treat them like a number and just a way to make money, they're out there, I still have hope! read more

So the service at the Modesto location was great, don't get me wrong. I was in and out quickly. They doctor was very caring and considerate of my child and her biopsy. It's the rest of the company I have an issue with. I took my daughter in in July 2024. I'm assuming they billed my insurance which denied my claim (had to meet deductible first). I didn't get my first bill until Nov. They tacked on a nearly $300 late fee!!!! WTF?! I tried to call and there is absolutely no option to TALK to billing, only pay... Online only offers the option to pay as well. No actual phone number for billing nada. I went to my FSA account and made a payment through my FSA reimbursement account (payment was rejected otherwise) $750 I paid to my over $1000 bill. 2+ weeks later my FSA cleared but this crappy place has NOT credited me. I tried to call hoping to find a way to talk to someone, looked online. The best I could find is the 925 number. It goes through the same BS questions as the local number but eventually asks if you want a call back to text that number. I did that.... Now I have to wait and see if this was at all a legit option. Very frustrating. I wish they took my medi-cal, I wouldn't be going through this bull. Anyway, other than billing, I'd give this place a 5 star. read more

Please Read...Waited on Hold for 2 hours on 2 calls. Tried to call back several times and was disconnected. This location has very poor customer service. They even messed up our appointment time!! They are under staffed and it shows. Please Do Not waist your time going to this Modesto location. The Turlock location is much better and they actually answer their phones. Canceled my appointment twice without telling me. I will not be back, very unprofessional.

Doctor was rude and belittling. She laughed at me when I was surprised and nervous when she wanted to do a procedure that was MUCH more invasive than the PA I saw in their Oakdale office said that I would need. At I follow up visit I was refused a cortisone shot for what was clearly scar tissue and told that it was just cartilage. You don't suddenly grow cartilage at an incision site. A much better doctor that I have seen since called what was done to me here 'mutilation". Avoid at all costs. Also, at the first visit I was told that my insurance might not cover the procedure so I was charged the "full amount" upfront and told that I would receive a refund if my insurance paid any of it. I was not expecting a refund but I was also not expecting a bill for several hundred more dollars after paying what I had ben told was the most that the procedure could cost. Again, avoid at all costs. read more

Had to take down a star because I read post-opt instructions. It's hard for me to take in oral instructions right after a procedure like that. Got the paper out to read when I'm to change the initial bandage, and it's blank for the number of days to keep the original bandage on. Then again, blank for getting the surgery site wet. This review is mainly for the front desk. I have brought my son in here now twice, and the women in the front reception with short dark hair has the worst attitude. I mean absolutely disgusting her attitude is. & I remained pleasant through all her rudeness thinking "maybe she's just had a bay day" but no, this woman is rude and belittling the way she speaks to you. I called to reschedule an appointment, the whole time on the phone she's being gnarly, and rude. If this is the person you're gonna have run your front office she is going to chase all your patients out the door. Nobody should have to deal with someone like her and her attitude every time. I know I am not and will request a different office with my insurance from here on out. read more

**WARNING DO NOT GO HERE** Believe all the one star reviews on here! This place will take your money! I Started going here believing that my insurance was covered based on what they told me with them looking at my insurance, so of course I'm going to trust the company and believe what they say. I was wrong and third appointment in they informed me that I was actually not covered and in order to be seen I had to pay a co pay along with a 300 $ bill that piled up by the third appointment. I was so frustrated because if I knew this place did not take my insurance, I definitely would not have continued to keep going there. After talking to the manager (Kelly) and explaining the situation she had reassured me she would void out the bill because of the situation where her staff did not inform me earlier that they did not take my insurance and misinformed me at my previous appointments .I was thankful that they had done this and thought it was the right thing to do so i was happy but a month later I was billed the $300 that they said they would void! DO NOT BELIEVE what they say, they say one thing and do another and treat you terribly while doing so!!! terrible customer service and dishonesty from the manager to the staff.... i feel bad for the dermatologist doctors here although they had great service, most likely the customer will not continue to see them for too long because of the terrible manager and staff!!! So yes don't invest your hard earned money at this establishment! Go somewhere else where you can get better customers service, at a business you can trust and that is honest! read more

I would rate this zero stars. First off, they make you schedule three different appointments when it only needs to be one appointment (a way for them to make more money of course). Also, the doctor literally did nothing for any of my concerns. I came in with a rash that has been happening for a while. She just said to put Vaseline on it and that it would go away. Well guess what? It hasn't gone away. She also cauterized my skin to get a biopsy. That's not how you biopsy something. You either do a push biopsy or just cut it out. I didn't know any better at the time, so I just went with it. Fast forward to this year. I just saw a different dermatologist and they were a million times better. I had my full body scan, and biopsies done all in one visit. No need to come back 20 times. They also diagnosed me with FAMMM, which y'all clearly missed and didn't care about trying to find out what was going on with me. I will never come back again. Maybe think about how you treat your patients and maybe not require three appointments for only one thing. read more

Dr. Payal Pardiwala was wonderful! She solved an ongoing mystery about my daughter's rash. She and the wonderful nurse, Andrea, were so patient with my blind, special needs daughter, very kind and accomodating. She hardly waited any time at all (waiting is difficult for her) in the waiting room and she was not required to sit in the small examination room. When she could not stay and wanted "out" she was allowed out and my daughter was taken to the restroom by her personal assistant, while I spoke with the Nurse and Doctor in turn. The doctor could see the rash and I showed photos of other areas of concern because my daughter would not remove her clothes, or expose any part of her body except what was visible around her neck. Dr. Pardiwalla recognized the condition immediately and was able to send us home with more information about the condition. I cannot thank them enough for accepting the challenge of my daughter's fear of small rooms and being examined. I'm extremely grateful. The office staff was also helpful and courteous and sped up the process. Success! Relief! Gratitude! read more

My husband had a appointment yesterday. After them having referral information months in advance, with insurance attached and me confirming the day of appointment we were told that they did NOT take our insurance. We traveled 1 hour, took half day off work to go, gas tank full to be handed paper work to only find out that if he wanted to be seen we could PAY cash!! Unbelievable!! I work in the medical field and have for over 20 years and never in my life have we told patients at the time of visit that we didn't take their ins and it was a wash!! Very unprofessional for a office. And the girl at the front could only say I'm sorry my office manager said we don't take that ins but I could pay cash. They should of reimbursed me for all the money I lost to get there and the months we waited to get in. I'm not surprised to see they have one stars on reviews!! read more

Today I saw Dr. Biren at Golden State Dermatology. My Consultation for a second opinion was scheduled 6 weeks out, after calling for a week I was slotted into a new Patient appointment in 3 weeks. I arrived 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment, filled out all the paperwork and was called to the exam room 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, I then waited another 10 minutes in the exam room. The Doctor enters the exam room with no introduce or mention that she was now 55 minutes post my scheduled appointment time, two assistants accompanied her each with an iPad. I was told to sit on the exam table, The Doctor put on a pair of gloves, proceeded to do a brief exam while speaking to her assistances. I asked a couple of questions, which the Doctor explained as she was easing herself to the door, I was particularly concerned about an area, after reexamining the area I was told by the Doctor that she (meaning the Dr) had never felt that before all she said, this was the reason for choosing to see Dr. Brien, I asked her what she thought about the area, and she did not respond, just shrugged her shoulders. Dr. then spoke to her assistants saying something about products and ingredients, she then ordered labs an injection which she did not explain how it would help I was told to return in 3 months. A total of 12 minutes physician time charged 130 dollars. Cash pay. I was given a paper to go to a lab in three months What lab? Where? If only the Doctor had taken the time to listen to why I was there what my symptoms were, what I had done before the visit and why I choose to see her. It would have been a productive appointment. Doctor listen to your patient, exam the patient and talk to the patient, using terminology the patient understands, if your running behind, inform your clients. Overall, it was an experience, what's happened to listening, explaining, and caring about patients? read more

Made and appointment to see Dr Biren, and I always actually seen by someone other then Dr. Biren, bad customer service. I was also overcharged and then sent a $5 check in the mail for overpayment and when I tried to cash it, the Dr had changed accounts and the check bounced and I was charged a fee for that. The Dr didn't want to reimburse me for my bank fees for them changing bank accounts. Horrible experience overall. read more

Okay, I'm a wart face. I will say it. Warts grow on my face. And no matter how obsessive I am with my cleaning regimen, they just keep coming back! I just had one excised a year ago and to my horror, two grew back in its place! It's like the Hydra! There was a wedding/reunion we were attending in a month and coincidentally, I was turning 35, too. So the vanity issues were very, very urgent at this point. We tried calling dermatology offices in our neighborhood but booking was impossible! Dermatology Affiliates Medical Group was the only one who gave options. Their primary M.D. wasn't available but if it was okay with me, their P.A. could see me for my problem. And that was fine by me, really. How hard can it be to deal with an idiotic wart? So, their office is nice, neat and clean. It did not take long for me to be seen by the P.A. She gave me my options- to excise, burn or freeze. And since I've done the first two already in the past, I wanted to try freezing these damn son-of-a-witch. Of course, the P.A. sent a nurse to do it..tsk...an assistant to the assistant. But the cryotherapy worked and the warts fell off after 2-3 days. The wedding was a night to remember and I grew another year wiser! But not every story has a happy ending. Another wart grew back in a couple of months. Again, I am back to being a wart face. read more

Want to remind people to be clear about objectives (and be sure scheduler is clear about your objectives) when scheduling appointment. On my first visit, we had a slight issue with why I was there, resulting in disappointment on my part, and I'm sure, frustration on Donna's part, as she didn't have the allotted time to work with me. I pointed this out on the office's private site, and was immediately contacted and rescheduled. I had the MOST comprehensive exam, (and I am avid golfer, so am a long time "Dermie") I've ever had. I have been going to this dermatologist for years and have been treated pretty fairly until just recently. This office sent me a bill for $150 saying that I did not have insurance at the time of my last visit. This was untrue. I tried to tell the office that they were billing my old insurance and not my new one. They insisted that it was my mistake or my insurances mistake, not theirs. After making multiple phone calls over three days between their office and my insurance, my insurance finally concluded that the derma office made the mistake of billing the wrong insurance. I never received an apology or anything for my inconvenience. Now, I am being billed $205 for "not showing up to my scheduled appointment". I had changed that appointment months prior and whoever I talked to never deleted the old appt. date. And to make matters worse, I never even received my first notices telling me that I missed an appointment and to pay the original fee, which was $50. Now they're sending me the the 60 day notice fee when I was never notified in the first place! The office didn't even send the telephone reminder that they usually send before appointments. I'm convinced that this place just wants my money now. It's really sad since I've been with them for at least 5 years. However, because of recent events I will never go back. And I will be sure to steer anyone else away from them as well. P.s. a few more minor cons, expect to wait about 40 mins in the waiting room because they are always 'behind schedule'. And good luck on getting through if you ever call the office. They never turn their phones back on when they come back from lunch and if by some miracle you do get through, expect to be placed on hold immediately. I will say that Donna Pryor is amazing and saved my skin. But bc of recent events I cannot go back to that place. There are better dermatologists out there people. read more

Had an appt with dr Biren in the Oakdale office for 2:00 today. Had appt for a couple months. Got call 2 days ago to confirm. Called this am to confirm as well. Get a voicemail a little bit later. Call them and they tell me that they were not contracted with my Sutter insurance and just neglected to notice it until now after 2 months. Called Sutter on my own as opposed to the referral from my pcp. I now have another 3 months wait. Thx Dr biren's office staff. read more

I'm sitting in the parking lot as I am writing this review, I came in to the office today because I had an appointment scheduled for 3:30 pm. I left work early to come to this appointment it's a follow up that would probably take 10 min or less. As I walk in they are getting ready to host a baby shower I tell them I am here for an appointment and they all look confused, one of the receptionist checks the system and she tells me that I have no appointment that there was never an appointment schedule for me, I then tell her I scheduled it for 6 months ago and she is like well we don't have anything for you we can schedule you for another day. I was so mad that I said no, (I know for sure I had that appointment because I wrote it in every calendar I have) If your going to cancel your patients appointments to host a baby shower at least notify your patients so that they don't miss work drive all the way over here for nothing but to waste their damn time. It should be zero stars. Awkward experience, for my daughter and me, with the nurse practitioner. Felt like their main concern was up-selling us on their in office products. They REFUSED to request authorization from my insurance company for the RX they were prescribing, insurance was willing to cover as long as authorization was requested. Office staff said "it's just too much work". Referred me to a mail order pharmacy they contract with where I can "pay a lower cash price" than at my pharmacy. Their lower cash price was more than my insurance copay. Awful experience - will be finding a different dermatologist. read more

I have been a patient here for several years. I like Dr. Biren. But I am exhausted with their back office processes. I have talked to them about this but nothing changes. Actually, it's getting worse. Two issues. Biggest one is that prescription reorders sit and sit and sit for days (up to a week) before acted upon. No excuse for this and it's especially challenging for someone who travels as I do. This has been an ongoing issue for years. I called over today to urge them to reauthorize a maintenance drug for which the pharmacy has already asked twice for authorization but they are closed today. And won't reopen until next Tuesday. Gotta love this (lack of) patient service. Second issue: They recently failed to provide my primary and secondary insurance information to a pathology clinic when sending over a sample for analysis. This turned into a major headache for me. Now resolved. But something like insurance information provision should be standard operating procedure for a medical office. Again, I like Dr. Biren but her back office does not have it's act together. Be aware. read more

I have never reviewed any business before, but was so dumbfounded today I had to. I have been a patient here for a while. Today I went - showed my primary and secondary insurance cards and was told that because they do not accept the secondary insurance I had to pay cash. I said, 'forget the secondary - just use primary and I will pay my co pay today.' Nope - cash only if I wanted to be seen. I walked out. They have just lost a regular - INSURED patient! read more

Dr. Biren is awful! I have never written a review before but had such a horrid experience with this dr. Felt compelled to save others some time & money. I took my 9 year old to see her for a wart on his toe after I was unsuccessful in treating it at home for several months. It is hurting him so bad & can't touch it. Dr. Birens medical opinion was for me to treat it at home by scrapping it with a razor blade or nail file daily along with otc medicine. Did she not hear me? This is what I've been doing? I would like to see her do this first treatment she's talking about? Or something? Talk to him? Actually touch him & exam him? File it & do this treatment? She never even put on gloves, held her hands behind her back & examined with her eyes. Not kid friendly at all! She did inform me & my son of another medical condition: that we both had large dark circles under our eyes. I'm still trying to figure out the point of that comment? Maybe she was going try to sell us some creams or something? I'm no medical dr., but my advice to her is to remove the stick up her butt & get your hands dirty! Get to work! read more

I was referred to this dermatology office by my primary care physician. I was having problems with cystic acne, and off course this time I picked at them. I ended up with a secondary infection. I was scheduled to see the P.A. and went in for my first visit. She was very cold and distant (literally). She stared at me like I had a dangerous communicable disease, and could not stay far enough away from me. She then stated that she wanted to take pictures so that we would have a record of my healing process. She hurried out of the room and did not return. A few mins. later the nurse can in with some paper work and said to make my next appoint, on the way out. Visit #2 with P.A. I did not have a baby sitter so I brought my toddler son with me to the appointment. She just kept staring at me and at my chart. She then turns to me and says "Do you take drugs?" My reply was only those listed on the chart. She proceeds to lecture/reprimand me for using drugs. One of her statements included that I had a small child to care for therefore I need to get off drugs. I was mortified insulted and shocked speechless at this verbal attack. I then pointed out to her that I was on medication for anxiety/OCD to treat picking and trichotillomania. She just thrust a paper at me and said I will see you in 3 months. I simply walked out without making another appointment. The next time that I saw my primary care Dr.. I asked for another derm. referral. When I told him the story his jaw literally hit the floor! read more

I have been going to Dr. Biren for years. A couple of years ago she found a melanoma early enough to fully excise it. The surgery she did was very good. Many who have looked at the scar have indicated they would like to go to her. She is very careful and competent and cares about her patients. read more
