My wife and I were on the road about 3 hours into a 7 hour drive and we were starving. She had been craving Chinese food for about a week so I told here to grab her phone, hit Yelp and pic a place. Golden Wok it was. We had to turn around and head back about seven miles but it was worth it. When we walked in we were greated and helped right away. The portions were generous and the flavor was excellent. My wife got white rice and it was nice and sticky and not crunchy. I got pork fried rice and was full of flavor. The Won Ton soup was very flavorful as well. I really don't think you can go wrong here. I know we have only been here once, but we will make a stop in here again in our travels.

I don't really know how else to say this: Not good. It's generic low-quality Chinese food. The place itself is weird and the food is about as uninspired as it comes. There was hardly any chicken in my kids' sweet and sour chicken - it was all bread. They didn't eat the sweet and sour sauce because it was gross. There's bound to be better options around - any of them HAVE to be a better choice.

The employees at Golden Wok are pleasant and friendly. They are a small, yet efficient, family run operation of three. It is a pleasure to watch them fry tasty morsels in flaming hot woks. The Hunan beef has a rich flavor that comes from its savory Shaoxing wine sauce. I recommend the curry beef, chicken, or shrimp with onion or Singpore mei fun rice noodles as they both explode with delicious curry spices. My only complaint about the Singpore mei fun is its listing as a spicy hot item when it actually isn't in the slightest. However, they make a homemade hot pepper sauce that can be used to enhance the spiciness of your meal. This is better than the vinegary hot sauce they offer in little packets. The prices are cheap, and depending on how much you spend, you can get a free item ranging from a can of soda all the way up to a qt. of sweet and sour chicken. I will be returning to this hole-in-the-wall when I get a hankering for Chinese takeout!

Best Chinese food I've had in Roanoke. I got the beef and broccoli and wonton soup, and it was all delicious.

My only displeasure is that their General Tso's and Honey Chicken uses chicken strips rather than chunk chicken pieces, which makes it a bit tough at times.

I have truly enjoyed dining in each and every one of them. But Bread Craft, located in the Star City of Roanoke, is in a class of its own. After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Bread Craft Bakery, located in Downtown Roanoke, is the perfect example of one of them. Bread Craft is a premier, artisan European-style bakery established in 2006 by owner Alex Eliades, who besides having a passion for baking, has over 25 years of baking experience, and leads the bakery focusing on traditional slow-fermentation techniques. The bakery is known for its high-quality, scratch-made sourdough, pastries, and Croissants. It evolved from a wholesale operation into a popular 6,000 square foot café on Church Avenue, also supplying local restaurants. The bakery specializes in Franch and German-style baking, utilizing sourdough as a natural leavener. It servers breakfast and lunch items, including sandwiches, salads, and some creative breakfast egg entrées. They are open Wednesdays through Sundays from 8:00AM - 2:00PM and are well known for running out of items before the end of the day. For this review I visited the Bakery / Café for breakfast on two consecutive Wednesdays. The first Wednesday I arrived too late to be able to have their Chorizo & Eggs Cocotte from their Breakfast menu. Breakfast is only served until noon, and I found out about this on that day. So instead I had a Cheese Danish and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Both items were delicious. On the second Wednesday I arrived much earlier for breakfast. Luckily, right before a whole rush of customers arriving to place Take-out orders. As soon as I walked inside I immediately felt comfortable with its clean and contemporary architectural design and decor, and an exposed red brick wall that gave it a warm ambiance. One can see that the owner spent a substantial amount in renovating the place when they moved here, and that they took good care of it, because it looked as if it had just opened for the very first time yesterday. While I was looking over all the baked items they had, I received a friendly greeting and warm welcome from a lady behind the counter who seemed to be the manager and took my order. To start I ordered a Chorizo Quiche which happened to be the Quiche of the day, and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Then since I was planning to turn this into a Brunch, for my main entrée I ordered their Chorizo Cocotte from the Breakfast menu. And for dessert I had a Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant that was simply irresistible. Everything tasted amazingly delicious, especially since I love Chorizo. The Quiche had an amazing crust with the eggs inside cooked with the perfect amount of chorizo. The Chorizo Cocotte was served in an elongated bowl with two poached eggs over Spanish sausage, accompanied by three slices of freshly made Baguette. And if all this wasn't enough, the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant was the perfect ending dessert to this fabulous put together Brunch. Oh and the coffee was the best of the best. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. What an outstanding dining experience I just had at Bread Craft. Wonderful ambiance, amazing food, and extraordinary customer service. I highly recommend this Bakery/Café whenever you're in the area. I'm absolutely certain it will become one of your favorites bakery.

I specifically targeted Bread Craft with its stellar reviews. I parked off street which was free. The business has a small sign and larger one over the entry. The walk up was debris free. The interior was somewhat compact, but a few tables were available for eat in which I planned. I'm confident they have a heavy takeout business with bakery items. The case of baked goods looked fantastic! However, I had my eye on their Eggs Florentine which can be difficult to find on a menu. Ordering is by counter and I found the woman to be friendly. I ordered the Eggs Florentine and coffee and was given a mug for self serve pour and a table number. I thought the bill was affordable, With few customers and not had anything to eat at 1 PM I hoped for them to roll out my dish quickly. About 20 minutes went by and a nearby table received their order. However, just moments later the waitress realized her mistake, but it was too late. She gave my order to another table that took a bite. The waitress apologized, but this point I was starved. No offer of a pastry etc. Unfortunately the coffee was lukewarm and not tasty. A manager I believe said hello, but no apology if he even knew. I mean the place is small of course he did. Another 20 minutes or so and my food hit the table with no additional apology or again offer of pastry etc. Even if it was to go. On the bright side my eggs Florentine dish was amazing! It saved the review from going under water. I switched coffee to the dark roast which was hot, but still not tasty. I would not return or recommend. 2.5 rounding up with a fantastic eggs dish.

It's Pho Time is a local, family restaurant, located in a strip mall of Williamson Road in Roanoke, Virginia. I found out that in Vietnam, pho is enjoyed at any time of day and serves as a common ground for people from all walks of life. Thus, the reason for its name: "It's Pho Time." When I arrived to this small, but clean and very simple decorated restaurant I saw a sign: "PLEASE SEAT YOURSELF." As soon as I sat down, who seemed to be the owner of the restaurant and gave me a warm welcome with a big and friendly smile. He brought a form with him and explained how here one ordered by checking the items on the form, taking it to the counter and handing it in, and waiting at your table to be served when ready. Then he answered any questions that I had about the items on the menu, and asked what I wanted to drink. I asked him for a Mango Smoothie with Boba Pearls. To my surprise they had it on the menu and this drink had become a favorite of mine since the first time I had it in another Asian restaurant called Wok N Roll Kitchen located in Downtown Roanoke. Filling out the menu / order form, I ordered Two Pork Spring Rolls as appetizer and a Glazed Pork Dish as the main course. Once I handed the form to the owner, he called out the items and family members working in the kitchen took care of preparing it and bringing it to my table when ready. The Pork Spring Rolls were amazing. I enjoyed the texture of the thin wrap, the flavory pieces of pork they had inside, together with the fresh and crispy veggies. This was served on a plate with a peanut base sauce. My main course was also very appetizing. It was a bowl full of white rice and Glazed Pork with lettuce, cucumbers, pickled carrots, dalkon, the house sauce, and an over medium fried egg. During my time there many people came in and ordered takeouts and others who seemed like repeat customers stayed and enjoyed their meal there. At the end I threw the the plastic bowl in the trash and put the tray on a pile of trays there. Then I went to the counter to pay and say my goodbye, thanking the owners and his entire family for such a wonderful meal and dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for its amazing food and extraordinary service, and plan to give them a visit again when I feel that ... "It's Pho Time."

It has no fancy restaurant front, no fancy landscaping, no nice trimmed green grass, and the two handrails of the three cement steps going up to the entrance door are rusted and almost falling down. Yet the small parking lot in front of the place is often full of cars during lunch and dinner time. But since it is often these hole in the wall restaurants that have the best ethnic foods, I decided today to go try it out. Just above the restaurant's building one can see the beautiful Mill Mountain in all its splendor with the green color of the Spring and above it, the Roanoke Star, highlighted by a beautiful blue sky high above it. You can appreciate this more by viewing my photographs that accompany this review. After I entered the restaurant through two simple glass doors, the inside of the restaurant was clean, with its walls painted white, its floor tiles nice and shiny, and its decor in the minimalist style with only nice looking furniture and nice original paintings and artworks evenly spread around the walls of the restaurant. It had large windows in the front that brought in bright light. Next to the windows and walls were dark red color booths and in the middle of the dining room were tables and chairs. As soon as I entered I was warmly greeted by a young man behind the host's station, who welcomed me with a big smile, handed me a copy of the menu, and asked me to take a seat at the table of my choice. After walking around I went and sat at a table that I not only could feel comfortable, but was situated in a central location with good light so I could observe the restaurant well and be able to take well lit photographs of the food items as soon as I was served and while enjoying my dining experience. The same host doubled as my server, and came by my table with a happy smile to see if I was ready to order. To drink I ordered the CAFE SU ADA, a Vietnamese Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk. As appetizer I ordered Ha Cao, Deep Fried Pork Dumplings served with mixed fish sauce. I also ordered their Goi Cuon Tom 2 Cuon, a shrimp, lettuce, and noddle rolled up with a rice paper, and served with peanut butter sauce. As the main course I ordered their Com Suon, Steamed Jasmine Rice with a Grilled Pork Chop. While ordering I talked with the server and he told me that this was a family owned and run business, together with the AA Asian Market that was inside the same building with an entrance from the restaurant. His mother seemed to be the cook, and his father in charge of running the Market. Through my experience I have found that this is very tipical in many ethnic groups restaurant businesses. The food all came out at once, even though I told my server that I would like my appetizers first. So I would recommend you order the appetizer first and after you're done eating it then order your main course, so the second doesn't get cold and you have more time to enjoy both while conversing with your guests. Everything was delicious: the dumplings, the pork, and the shrimp roll, although I found the rice paper a bit too thick and sticky, making it a bit difficult to handle. The sauces accompanying the food were also extremely good tasting. When I asked what they had for dessert, my server walked to the Market and brought me one of their popular desserts. Not knowing what it was, I ate it anyway. The sweet sauce was good but I didn't care much for the pieces of some type of pieces of a vegetable it had inside. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a wonderful Vietnamese Cuisine dining experience. Both the food and the service were great. So much so that I feel in the process I got to learn more about their culture as well.
