One of the first restaurants I've been impressed by in a long time!! Highly recommend this place. The owner is so sweet. The waiter was so professional. The food was amazing and the portions were so good. They took allergies and food customizations very seriously and professionally. The pho here is seriously so good, just make sure you get the extra rich broth. They could add a little more meat, but honestly, for the price, it's solid. My boyfriend and I come here at least once a week--no joke. Have to mention the pork belly too because it's insane. I ordered the drunken noodles and the flavor was spot on for me. My son had the pho and he said it was really good. I didn't try the pho so I don't know how I would like it, but if my son liked it (he loves pho), we are definitely taking him back here. My daughter ordered the pad thai. Came here on Valentine's day during the night rush. Although they were busy they did their best to accommodate me and the service was good. The food wasn't the best, but good considering there's not many options in the Blacksburg Area. The pho and thai tea were exceptional, I would order it again. My go to is the Pho, but I've also enjoyed the drunken noodles, fried rice, and other items! Service has always been attentive and very good, the staff is always very friendly. Pretty good food. I've tried the Thai tea, pork fried dumplings (must get), spicy chicken, and Thai fried rice. The spicy chicken and Thai fried rice pair well together. The dumplings are delicious and seem to be house-made (I've tried my fair share of frozen dumplings and if those are frozen then I've got to know the brand lol). I'd highly recommend this place! Cafe MeKong was a solid staple for me when I was in college (2014-2018). They have excellent curry dishes, pho, Thai tea, and drunken noodle. My mother loves the drunken noodle so much that she will not eat it anywhere else (home is Atlanta). We have many wonderful Thai restaurants in the area but we always compare them to Cafe MeKong. The service is always friendly, the owner was there frequently checking on customers and even remembered my father when he would come to visit me once every few months. There is a lot of love in this business and sure the ambiance is small and looks slightly like an office, but the food transports you to a place of warmth and comfort every time. It's nothing like that type of Pho you can get from NOVA, however, it satisfies the itch. The prices are also very reasonable and the portion sizes are good. Cafe Mekong was actually my first meal when I came to Blacksburg for the first time. I have always loved Thai food and this was one place that I was taken for Thai food. It is a small restaurant just outside of the downtown area with tables that are standalone as well as booths. The menu consists of a variety of Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai dishes. Most of them aren't cooked authentically- rather a more American twist on these dishes. Over my times in Blacksburg, I've eaten the Drunken Noodles, Pho, Two is the Fried Rices, and the Beef soup. For me, all of them had a lot of MSG and lacked that depth of flavor. The Noodles and rice should have had a more fried taste and more flavor in general, and the two noodle soups were pretty watered down. I wouldn't be able to call either of the soups authentic since they were far off. However, out of all of the other Asian places in the town, this one is still the best. read more

The food, even though cooked fresh to order, comes out quickly in slower hours, but still fast when the place is fully packed, which seems to occur at all of the mealtime hours I have been here. Being in a college town it has a diverse clientele, which I enjoy, as you don't see much of that in my tirsl town. I don't want to sound bigoted, but I notice many Asian young people and families here, which I usually take as a good sign that this type food is prepared well and has authentic flavors. As a huge fan of Thai food, being in Blacksburg is difficult because of the lack of Thai options in the area. However, Cafe Mekong has become my go-to when I'm craving Thai over the past couple of years. Although some of their dishes are good, I feel like I always have to do some doctoring to my takeout and that it's always just a bit disappointing. The noodles are usually just not saucy or flavorful enough, and they don't put a whole lot of broccoli or egg. The Thai fried rice is good but extremely sweet, which is unexpected, and their soup is decent as well. Don't get the Pad Thai. I always try it when I go to a new thai place, it's like a family tradition, sort of like "getting the burger" at the new grill. It was just a sad glop of noodles, 1 slice of lime and like 4 large uncrushed peanuts on a sad piece of lettuce. The yellow curry was good. Dunno why they put a "hot" star next to it - my dad ate it and he cries when I put too much pepper in his eggs. Fish cakes and spring rolls were great. Service was fast and friendly. At first I didn't realize that it contained eggs and as a vegetarian, I felt nauseated when I found pieces of egg in the food.
