    a display of baked goods
    Tara L.

I've been craving hopia lately and being out in the Central Valley, they're aren't many Filipino bakeries around. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to get my hopia fix at Gold'n Fresh! Love that their hopia is not overly sweet and has the right balance of filling. They have other baked goods like ensymada, pan de leche, pan de ube, biko, bibingka, siopao, hot dog rolls, and many more! We were also fortunate to meet the owner and the person responsible for these yummy delicacies, Elaine :) Go and get your hopia fix on and support one of the only Filipino bakeries in Modesto!

    Pretty good hopia here

My mom wanted me to take her to this place since she really likes the hopia here so off to Modesto we went. A pretty small bakery that's kinda hidden in a spacious shopping plaza (you're at the right place if the GPS leads you to a nearby Raley's). The hopia here is delectably chewy and not overly dry like the ones sold at Filipino grocery stores (always try to buy hopia at the source!). Not the *best* hopia that I've had though (the hopia baboy in particular is a bit bland). Still, would definitely satisfyingly fulfill a hopia craving. There are typical Filipino bakery staples here as well, some of them with a twist. Basic-tasting though (the blueberry flavoring in the blueberry ensymada tastes like canned pie filling). There is a clearance rack of what looks like to be day-old products so you could get away with bags of things like pan de sal for just a few bucks. Overall come here for the hopia, but you could easily leave the bakery with more things if you tend to buy standard Filipino bakery goods on the regular.

Meat to bun ratio is disappointing, for the price of $3.15 each

Their Hopia are soooo good, it doesn't matter what flavor. They're all fresh and tasty. Love them all.

Do you sell hopia in the Bay Area?

Hello. Yes, we sell our hopia in some Asian grocery stores in the South Bay and East bay. Seafood City in San Jose, Hayward and Concord carries or products as well as Island Pacific in Hayward and and a few other smaller stores in those areas.

Do you sell hopia at any of the Asian markets in Stockton?

Foo Lung market, Pinoy Asian market and Super King sells our products in Stockton.

Do you guys make puto bungbong?

Yes they do, around Christmas time :)

Can or will they make Custard Pie?

No they don't bake pies or cakes :) but they do have an amazing treat I totally recommend trying the Bavarian cream buns or loaf :)

I was given my receipt and told by staff that I could get 15% off my order at the restaurant next door if I presented it to them. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant and the staff warmed it up for me. The croissant was flaky and I liked the everything but the bagel seasoning on top. I also purchased their chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate muffin. The cookie was thick and chewy on the inside. The semi sweet chocolate chucks topped with sea salt was a delightful combination which uplifted my energy levels during that dreaded afternoon crash. My coworker ate the chocolate muffin and she said it made her day! Mind you, she doesn't even like chocolate! After placing my order I took a walk around. The layout of the bakery let's the customers see the bakers crafting the delicious pastries. The calming music, the pops of green plants, mixed with the eclectic collection of vintage decor made me sparkle with inspiration. This feels like a place you can come with friends to catch up. Can't wait to get their coffee the next time I visit.

There were limited quantities of each so I'm not sure if they have more things on the weekends, which would totally make sense for a local small business on a random Tuesday. Parking is easy once you find it and although the inside is very small there are a few chairs and cafe tables perfect for a duo. Nonetheless, we left with a good haul and got one of almost everything: Red velvet slice, Carrot cake slice, Chocolate Mousse slice, Chocolate brownie, and Lemon bar. They also had a sheet cake, a small pack of cupcakes and cake pops in a separate case, so I wasn't sure if those were preorders or display or available for purchase. Here's what I loved: THE BROWNIE. One of the best I've ever had! The lemon bar was also delicious, super tart and perfectly baked. I'd get either of those again! Customer service was very friendly, prices were clearly displayed and fair, and the portions were good sizes. Here's what I just liked: The cake part of the red velvet, mousse, and carrot cake was a bit dry. They were beautifully decorated, the frosting and fillings were great, but the cake itself just wasn't as soft and moist as I was hoping. Another Yelper mentioned sticking the cake in the microwave and I wish I would have tried that. Definitely a small business worth supporting!

Upon entering, I was struck by three things, how friendly the worker was, how hard the door was to open (I do have mobility issues on occasion), and how little there was on display to choose from. Still, I found a couple of nice items (red velvet and some serious chocolate cake) my wife loved the chocolate but we found the red velvet to be quite dry and hard. I suspect that it had been in the case far too long. Fortunately the chocolate was so good, my wife said that it more than made up for it. Overall, the ambiance was simple bakery, nice folks, serving well. I suspect where these nice folks shine is in pre-orders (which makes TOTAL sense, as foot traffic, particularly in this bakery's location would be a tough sell indeed). I suspect that we will be keeping Dessert European Cakes and Pastries in mind for our upcoming bakery needs.

I even told them I don't like buttercream because it's too sweet and that I didn't want it anywhere on this cake. When I placed the order, they asked if they could add a little buttercream to the outside for texture. I said okay, but only a tiny bit mixed with the whipped cream. What showed up was all buttercream on the outside with zero whipped cream. When I asked about it, they told me it was whipped cream. I know what I'm tasting, and so did my guests. It was definitely buttercream. The inside was even worse. There was some ganache but barely any. The further we cut into the cake, the more buttercream we found. I did not want buttercream inside the cake at all. I barely agreed to a little on the outside and they didn't even respect that. The photos show it clearly. The further we cut, the messier and more uneven it got with just buttercream and buttercream. One slice had a thin layer of ganache with barely any pecans or caramel. Everything else was buttercream. I picked this bakery because I had a good experience with them the first time. The design looked nice, but the cake itself was really disappointing. Way too sweet from all that buttercream I specifically said I didn't want. I gave them detailed feedback with photos. Instead of owning up to it, the decorator got defensive. He said he used buttercream as glue to hold the cake together. But that doesn't make sense. If ganache worked fine as glue on my first order with them (which had no buttercream inside at all), why couldn't he do the same thing this time? He just chose to use a lot of buttercream instead of actually following what I asked for. I even sent more photos pointing out exactly where the problem was. But they still insisted it was whipped cream. My guests noticed it too. So are they lying? Management offered me a 10% discount on my next order. That doesn't help. I paid for a cake that didn't meet what I asked for and it ruined my event. I asked for a 50% refund which seemed fair. They read the message but never answered. Just complete silence. If a bakery is going to charge premium prices for custom cakes, you need to actually follow what the customer asks for. I was crystal clear about what I wanted. That's literally the whole point of a custom order. They like to ignore customers when there's an issue. I was ignored at first, then only responded after I pointed out how unprofessional they were handling things. That's when they offered the 10% discount. But the moment I asked for a fair 50% refund, they ghosted me completely. No response, nothing. That says everything you need to know about how they treat customers who have legitimate concerns.
