My daughter found a random cake image on Pinterest and that's all she wanted for her birthday. I called Village and explained what I wanted, said I had an inspo picture and wanted to place an order. From the first call to the girl I spoke with to picking the cake up was an amazing experience. Placing the order was easy, sent the images thru text, and sent all the details the same way. Then called and placed the final order. When we picked the cake up it got damaged once we arrived at home (100% our fault) we call them immediately and explained what happened to the cake. They said to bring it back and they would try to fix it. Fix it they did!! You couldn't even tell. I am so thankful for Village Baking for making my daughter's 16th birthday cake dream come true. The flavor was fundetti with vanilla custard and it was fresh, and light. Not really a butter cream fan but it was necessary for this cake. The buttercream was light, fully and delicious. Haven't been here in a few years, but lunch didn't disappoint. My daughter absolutely loved the cheese, ham and potato quiche. Said it was the best she'd ever had! I did the buffalo chicken panini which had a nice flavor and not spicy- for me that's a win win. Husband did the BLT which looked fairly basic but he was happy. Lunch comes with orange slices and a cookie which was fresh. Lots of treats to choose from and the brownie looked amazing but we were all full. This place is now on our list to revisit! read more

The only local bakery that came through for me on short notice! I called and also submitted an online inquiry to see if they could make my daughter's 9th birthday cake. I didn't hear back for a day or two, but they eventually returned my call and were able to accommodate my request. I had a few specific details in mind--my daughter wanted a chocolate mousse cake, she loves bows, and her favorite color is white. They absolutely delivered! As you can see in the photos, they executed exactly what I envisioned. The cake tasted delicious, the portions were very generous, and the pricing was reasonable for the quality and size. My only suggestion would be sending a pickup reminder. Between mom life and work life, things can get hectic, and a courtesy notification that the cake was ready would've been helpful. Went in this morning to get my mom a cake for her 83rd birthday. The staff was very lost in what direction they were supposed to take in helping the clients A lady cut in front of me so that was already highly annoying. They should probably adapt the number system like Olde Tyme Pastries. It works well for them. Also the cake taste like old bread the frosting was not good. There was so much frosting and it's not good. You cannot eat it. You have to scrape it off. They actually filled in part of the broken cake with more frosting. If you can believe that! I'll post a picture so you can see for yourself. As if this is not upsetting enough now we have to try to cut a cake that's like an avalanche! But the best part was I couldn't get anyone in the Bakery to write on the cake because everybody was either on their lunch, gone home or on vacation and that includes the Manager. My mom summed it up pretty properly though she said out of 83 years this is the worst cake I've ever had! I will definitely not be going back there. $45.00 for the cake that went into the trash. I had had trouble with another bakery when ordering my sister in laws birthday cake, the other bakery which I will not name lost my order and refused to compensate me with anything. That experience left me going to village bakery in hopes of getting a last minute cake, knowing that the bakery doesn't do same day orders. When I spoke to Sarah on the phone she was very kind and understanding and assured me her team would be glad to help, we didn't just speak about cakes either, the bakery itself is very clean and welcoming, and all the staff were so kind. Really disappointed. McHenry Village has been a local favorite since forever, but something has changed. The owners, the baker or something. I ordered a German chocolate cake for a very dear friends Mom's birthday. The cake was beautiful, as you can see from the photo. The cake itself was horribly sweet, it was full of buttercream frosting and just the top had the actual German chocolate icing. Even the kiddos said it was too sweet and walked away from the cake. Really disappointing. I also ordered the chicken pot pie to take home for my Dad and his t was so stale and had no flavor that we gave it to the neighbors dog over the fence. Lastly, I purchased a cheese danish and savory Keish slice to eat on the way home. The cheese danish went out the window for the birds to eat due to it being so stale and dry. The savory Keish slice was decent and I was able to eat this. I spent $50 on a basic, buttercream "German chocolate" cake that was sadly disappointing that seriously I would have been better off getting a boxed cake mix and icing in a can from the store. The cake was very pretty though.... There is generally plenty of safe and free ADA and regular parking in their parking lot. The inside is decent and dated. The faux display causes are full of dust and dirt and definitely need cleaning and/or changed out. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and kind.
