Unsanitary gym, workers are never seen cleaning any equipment, "cleaning solution bottles" are only filled with water most of the time which allows no use for actual sanitization. Shoes are allowed in sauna. Great equipment but unsanitary conditions. This gym has potential, just unfortunate that sanitary protocols are not enforced. read more

Giving the Gym a 2 solely because of the need of air conditioning and ventilation. I would hope this gets the attention it needs, but looks like people from 9 years ago have been saying the same thing. Golds gym always makes sure their building is 20 degrees hotter than the outside, it has been up to 95 in the gym! This is just cruel to have your paying members and hardworking staff under these conditions. My review would be 5/5 but the lack of airflow reallyyy affects the gym. No windows at all, just the front door open. Its gross. There is no ability to reach or file a complaint either. read more

I have been a customer here at Gold Gym since 2020... But even I was a customer prior back in 2015-2016 when I would get a day pass with my mom time to time. The remodel was needed! Cleanest gym in Hollister. I stand behind it. As a young female, gold gym makes me feel secure and safe. The gentlemen at gold are very respectful as well. The staff is super nice. Aren't your dues supposed to go towards upkeep as well as TURNING ON some AC? I've been a member for several years and every summer it's the same thing. It's a newly designed building, so if there's no AC built into the building, that's poor planning right there. Tonight's workout cut short because it was literally 90 plus degrees inside. I've been coming here for 9 years now and honestly they should have just left the gym how it was before the remodel, this place has gone downhill I wish I could leave 0 stars the only thing good about this place is the front desk workers they should have made Kevin the manager instead of the person in currently but this place got so bad that he ended up leaving not enough equipment and equipment that's a waste of space they also called me personally when I wrote a review before on their social media page stating "if you're not happy here we can just end your membership with us" Ravellas is better but so much more crowded I don't want to leave I want to see this place become better. Been asking for them to turn the lights in the parking lot on earlier in the morning and late in the evening when it's dark outside and they continue to say it's because of the time change ... they will tell the manager but nothing changes. It's very very dark and scary waking to your car. Very unsafe! I would love to go during the day when it's light but I can't with my work out schedule. Also in the women's restroom the manual soap dispensers have been broken for months and they are not fixed. They just take the lids off of them and pour soap in them, so you dip your hand in the soap along with 100 other people. Wish they would listen to there customers. read more

Well, the Star rating system doesn't have a Zero. I joined this gym when it was Golds and not yet completed. It never really got finished. And over it's 14 or so years has just been slowly run into the ground. New owners came and went. It used to be at least fairly clean and the equipment was new. The early treadmills, etc. died and were replaced with stuff that just didn't last. It is hobbled together and it's hard to find a piece to use. They "Air Conditioning," ducts were installed and then torn out because no one got a permit for the work. The owner now, cut holes in the walls for ventilation. This gym used to have a Protein/Juice bar! Now you are lucky to buy crap products like Muscle Milk. The weights and machines in this place were, first rate. Now they are neglected, and broken. It used to be great for Bodybuilding. Lots of classes for that crowd. The remaining owner is content to never clean, or maybe monthly. He stops by and mops the floor tile like he's cleaning the place. I never saw a hired cleaning person the last few years I was paying membership fee's. Soap, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning sprays are hit and mis. I don't think the machines themselves have been cleaned in years. Or the rubber flooring. I asked him about what he was doing and got an answer like trying to keep membership costs real low for people that can't afford it. I told him I'd rather pay more to have a cleaning person and get things fixed correctly. Interesting because it seems to be worse than when I left a year ago, AND HE JACKED THE MEMBERSHIP FEES UP. Don't believe me? Look at the other reviews. I suppose the last owner I saw is gone by now, I didn't bother to go find out. But judging by what the guy working there told me very recently, everything is pretty much a joke. I would love some lawyer type to come in and file a class action lawsuit against him to take possession of the gym and sell it cheap enough to a new owner, that it would make sense to buy it, and invest enough money in it to bring it back up to a functioning gym. I was a member here from October of 2012 through September of 2013. Let me start off by saying that their membership fees are reasonable, so one star for that. The second star is because I liked the Yogalates class (mix of yoga and pilates) and attended fairly regularly for a while. The entire time I was a member there, the hair dryer in the women's restroom NEVER worked. There is no AC there. I know that a lot of older buildings in Hollister don't have AC because it rarely gets above like 90, but a gym with a bunch of people putting out body heat would be a good place to have it. Also, the dirty feet smell was almost unbearable at times. I get it, it's a gym and people sweat in there, but there was a serious lack of cleaning going on in there. Machines were old and wearing out, audio plug ins for TVs never worked. I recommend scouting other places first. read more

I have to say I'm disappointed to see the new owners aren't taking care of the temporary facility. A bit petty but there have been no paper towels for three days. Same lack luster environment. I am extremely unhappy with the service from the owners/management of Gold's Gym. Since they took ownership we have had nothing but issues with our account from being misinformed about being able to keep our Hollister Gym Membership rates, to being charged when our account was frozen for multiple months, to not getting timely communication about changes to their policy as a result of COVID. To top if off the owners could not even acknowledge wrong doing or the lack of communication and most importantly customer service after learning that I had not heard from anyone in over 5 months after sending an email inquiring about my account. As a matter of fact the owners apparently were more upset that I located their personal phone number online by googling their name instead of taking that as a red flag that folks are not well trained or do not have the information to provide to their customers. I love the Gold's staff like Linda, Jessica, Sandra, and Stephanie to name a few...but something has got to change. I hope more people speak up (I can't be the only one) so that change can take place! read more

Although they have everything you need to get the job done, this gym certainly needs a facelift! If you make it through the parking lot without blowing a tire, or all four, from one of the millions of potholes, you walk in to a gym where the customer service is well, most of the time not there. The tanning beds are circa 1990, the cardio machines look like someone hasn't taken a cleaning tool to them since they arrived. During the warmer months, it is miserable to work out here because I honestly don't think they have air conditioning! I went to the water fountain on one summer night to get a drink of super cold water, yeeaahhhh NO! Right out of the pipes comes miserably hot water. Most certainly the biggest gym in town for weight training. While there is not a pool or raquet ball court (like Rovella's), this gym is spacious and has the most weight machines of all of the gyms in town. There is a machine to work out every major muscle group and lots of free weights. This is a place to do some serious body building or simply get fit. You see people young and old and of various body types. You don't have to be a super model to go here. The staff is friendly and helpful and the gym is always clean. The staff is always sweeping, mopping and cleaning the equipment and the bathrooms smell fresh. They also have lots of classes to choose from, many trainers, a daycare, tanning, massage and a juice bar. What's not to like? I love the fact there is a separate area just for women for us shy types that don't like to work out with all those stinky men. Extra treat: Watch out for the cutest toy Chihuahua you have ever seen. It's dressed to the nine and often carries around a little doggie toy. One of the owners(?) brings it in every now and then. Some drawbacks: - It can get very hot in the summer even after they open the back doors and use their multiple fans. I don't think they even have air conditioning. :( - It can get very crowded after work between 5 p.m - 7 p.m. which makes it hard to get on the equipment you want to use - Pet peeve. The radio stations for the TVs NEVER work for me. (The one's at Rovella's always worked). Some do have the words displayed on the bottom, but for old tired eyes the words can be hard to read. - I also wish they were open 24 hours like Rovella's. For a gym rat, I miss going whenever I like and don't like worrying about getting there before they close at 11 p.m weekdays and 9 p.m. weekends. read more

You know, Hollister is a small town and word travels like wildfire. And in a small town, reputation can effect a business big time. We were members of another local gym and thought we would give golds a try. We took the tour of the facility, were told that nothing stays broken for any period of time for the owners expect perfection. Many classes are offered and the gym stays open till 11 pm. The tour included a look at their sauna and steam room. The steam room was down for repairs and we were told the parts were in order and it would be repaired soon! Well here we are, nearly 3-months later and no steam room. Machines are routinely down, the paper towels in the bathroom and around the gym to clean the equipment are always empty. Stay away from this place! The gym has older equipment that's not maintained very well. On average half the treadmills work. The cable machines are either broke ore missing the pins to hold up the weights. The men's bathroom is filthy and the locker room smells like urine. After my contract was up they continued to withdraw money from my account for 4 months. When I called to speak with a manager it took 3 days for them to return my message. After speaking with a manager they informed me that they could only refund 1 month out of the 4 months I was overcharged. Judge Judy here we come! read more

If you're looking for a real gym to work out at this is it! Unfortunately, they insist on cleaning during gym hours and a lot of times at prime times with toxic chemicals. Sweating on the treadmill or doing the bench press while someone sloshes toxic Pine-Sol smells on the floor next to you is not healthy!!! I am extremely disappointed that a place where people go to get healthy are being being exposed to such horrible horrible toxic air!!! I have mentioned it several times with no resolution. I am an athlete and have been all my life! I have worked out in Gyms all over the country and I have never ever been exposed to such horrible toxicity in a gym!!! The gym is decent. It gets the job done. Been here quite a few times. I like the strength training section. I do like that there is a women's area as well. I will say, I am not fond of the cardio equipment. Very disappointing. They could definitely use some new equipment. A lot of them are off balance or squeak loudly or look like they have seen better days. I would give it more stars if they got some new cardio equipment. I spend more time in that area of the gym. Also, for when it gets to be summertime it would be nice to have air conditioning. Hard to breathe when it is too stuffy and hot. Overall not a bad place and I still go on occasion. read more

As others have mentioned, this place needs a good cleaning and the machines should be updated. I only checked out this gym because Anytime fitness was closed and I don't have a membership yet. Ok, if you're usual gym is Equinox, don't get your hopes up too high here. This gym still retains the original look and feel of a classic Gold's. Most of the floor space is devoted to weights and weight machines, but there's also plenty of cardio machine's upstairs too. I really appreciate the ladies workout room for when I want to sweat hard and grunt in a more private area. I haven't gone to many of their classes but the aerobics rooms are well maintained and huge. Lets not forget the sauna and steam room in the men's and women's locker area. I also appreciate the the gym smells good and is always clean. I really enjoy this gym, it doesn't have any frills but it gets the job done! read more

This gym has gone downhill..... they make you jump through hoops just to end your membership. They sure make it easy to join (because that involves them taking you're money). I'm usually there for a cardio class at 5am and the young man behind the counter has no idea what is going on. He says a class is in one building, only for me to go to that place and find out its in a different building. He is rued as well. I would not recommend this gym to anyone. read more

The one thing that I liked about Gold's Gym is that the memberships are reasonable. It seems like there is a lack of customer service. I have been a member for three years and there are some great classes and one of those great classes was canceled (RIPPED) due to lack of participants sometimes but that was a great class. Machines are slowly wearing down and the steam room in the women's restroom always seems to be breaking. There are some great employees who are very friendly and helpful but then there are employees who just stand around and do nothing. Or when you walk up to the front counter and are looking for an employee who is out on the floor working out while they are working. This can be a good gym because if you are determined to lose weight you will do whatever it takes. It just would be to have the amenities of the steam room and more friendly and helpful staff. That's the whole reason why I keep my membership here because of the steam room. I looked at other places but that's what keeps me coming back and the great reasonable child care. Another thing also the board where classes are posted needs to be kept up to date along with the website to know what classes are being offered. read more
