Cold showers , lousy shower head that puts out pin needles of tepid water . Like exercising in a cold storage facility . Everything is cold there plus no jacuzzi or steam room like marina location Nice thing is that no one goes there so you have the place all to yourself I upgraded to 4 stars as the showers and ambient air are now much warmer but the shower heads still need to be replaced with a model that provides a decent shower . Like a speakman s 2252 Pool is colder than the marina branch . and it bugs me that since I go almost everyday I have to drive 15 hrs per month to marina so that I can use the steam room for my dust allergy . Was epic two years ago. Hesitated with going back & suffered a back stabbing from someone who was a traveling journey PT & after going back our mutual agreement with my physical therapy went out the window. She would record me when THEY KNEW I HAD MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES but proceeded to treat me indifferent & uncomfortable. When I am placed in these situations, I will say dumb, stupid things & lose my temper. May have cursed but never cursed at anyone & when you told several different things & sometimes, they had bad days & said things uncool. My overall experience their went from fun times to being felt judged & nitpicked at. When I was out of shape & skinny things seemed fine but once I started to get in better shape & wanted my support for my aging body as a man....I'm told im wrong for this? Why is it anytime my life starts to get better that someone ruins it other than myself crashing & burning. So little support or encouragement. Overall, they did not provide me with the recovery to driving again....I SHOULD BE DRIVING AGAIN but physically UNABLE & was in this program for years. They just eventually tell you dont come back for some time & I regret going back. They don't even have a good gym culture, and they WERE SO FRIENDLY & misleading & then out of nowhere super strict. They left me feeling confused & upset many times over the years. They did not care about my mental health or overall goal to drive! Honesty wasted my time making friends that turned around to ruin my life like so many do. Learn to treat people with known mental health issues better & dont have a therapist pretend to be their friend just to get uncomfortable with things they said. Honestly, I should of never opened up with anyone that was not a Dr. for mental health. That was my biggest mistake. read more

Let me start by saying that I am not a gym rat. Having had experiences at both Marina and Salinas I will say that mostly the equipment is newish and in working order. The rehab staff at both sites are exemplary, the pools, not so much. The pool in Salinas has been out of commission for close to a year (as of 4/26), so those of us that rely on aqua therapy have been left behind. When dealing with staff there was very little assistance offered, but quite a bit of attitude. Since it's covered by our insurance, unlike other gyms in town, we'll probably just wait until it's repaired, since no one offered us the possibility of just going to Marina. read more

I wanted to share some honest feedback about my experience at Montage Wellness Salinas because the level of customer service has been really disappointing lately. For a facility that likely brings in thousands of dollars in memberships, the professionalism at the front desk, especially during evenings and weekends, is lacking. Multiple times I've walked in to see multiple employees working at once, yet none of them greet members as they come in. Instead, they're sitting at the front desk eating full meals, on their phones, looking miserable or using personal laptops. A front desk at a gym should feel welcoming and attentive, not like employees are hanging out socially. Customer service etiquette seems to be missing during these shifts. When members walk in, there should at least be a simple acknowledgment like "hello" or "have a good workout." Unfortunately, that basic level of service isn't consistently happening. I do want to acknowledge that Randy, Diana, and the woman who usually works mornings are excellent. They are friendly, professional, and actually make members feel welcome when they arrive. Their attitude reflects the type of service you would expect from a wellness facility. However, the evening and weekend staff, particularly the guys and the other woman who work those shifts, seem to need additional training. Working at a gym doesn't just consist of sitting behind the front desk. It involves engaging with members, maintaining a professional environment, and making sure the facility is running smoothly. Another frustrating issue is the water fountains. Both fountains are currently not functioning properly and only work using the push option. There is a sign telling members to use the fountain near the restroom instead, but that one doesn't work either. For a wellness facility, something as basic as functioning water fountains should be a priority. Overall, it's frustrating to see such a nice facility fall short in areas that should be simple to fix: professionalism, basic customer service, and facility maintenance. I've noticed a clear difference in the level of service compared to the location in Marina, which feels much more professional and welcoming. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and considers providing additional training and oversight. read more

I've been a member at Montage for a while now, paying around 70 bucks a month, which is definitely on the higher end for a gym membership. Unfortunately, the quality and management of the facility just don't match the price point. There's a noticeable lack of professionalism at the front desk. Employees often stand around on their phones, rarely greeting members as they walk in. It doesn't have that welcoming, community feel that many other gyms provide, and that makes a big difference. Cleanliness is another major concern. Aside from the janitorial staff who clean at night, there's little attention paid to day-to-day upkeep. The machines are often filthy and clearly not oiled or maintained regularly. I've seen gyms like Planet Fitness and Gold's Gym take better care of their equipment, and for less money. That said, I do appreciate the solid selection of weights and machines. But even the best equipment loses its value if it's not properly maintained. The posted rules also seem to be inconsistently enforced. There are signs saying no phone calls or photography, yet I've seen male staff members taking shirtless selfies in the locker room while other members are around. Meanwhile, phone conversations happen on the gym floor without any intervention from staff. It's unclear whether it's a management issue or just a lack of accountability from the team, but either way, it reflects poorly on the facility. The hours could use improvement too. For what members are paying, this gym should be operating at a much higher level. I really hope to see better management, stricter policy enforcement, and more attention to cleanliness in the future,because right now, it's just not worth the premium price. At this point, Ill just save my money, buy my home gym and mitigate it that way lol, but I really expect management to turn this place and staff around. Its just not acceptable. read more

The gym is super clean! The employees are nice. I did not see any broken exercising machine. They have a lap pool and exercising pool. They have exercising classes (Zumba, Stretching, Spin, yoga, etc). throughout the day. Best part: Senior that are Aspire Medicare Advantage members, the gym is completely FREE. read more

Something was always broken at this gym. Their audio system for the TVs was ancient. The sound was always out on at least one TV. The pool was closed way too often. The fitness equipment needed to be updated. Their classes were not fun at all and were designed only for elderly people. Their hours were so limited I thought I'd joined a bank instead of a gym. And, to top it off, they charged more than any other gym on the peninsula. read more

Zero stars if possible. They must be way overpriced to have a policy to not give you any kind of $ figure over the phone. They must want you down there, so they can go through the whole ordeal, and then try to suck you in with the cost. All I wanted was some sort of figure before I made the trip down there, and be able to see if it was cost effective at all for me to even consider this place. After a few employees told me they cannot give cost over the phone, you have to make an appt, and come down, they got a so called manager to talk to me. Same outcome. This is an old trick they use in the car selling business: never give the amount over the phone, it's too easy for the customer to panic, and say that's too much. Get them down here, and after they see all the bells, & whistles, they will pay anything. Stay away from this place, this business practice is shady at best. read more

My husband and I joined about a month ago and we are really pleased. Equipment is new and easy to use, never crowded and friendly staff. I enjoy their PIYO class with Leah. We will never, ever recommend this facility to anyone. Especially people with children. On Saturday, April 28th, a fitness assistant was providing support for the childcare as they had many children in the room. This person, we find out later, has taken zero training/certification to be in that room providing said "support." Our oldest is two and I won't lie, a bit spunky sometimes. She's incredibky sweet but when she becomes upset she tends to hurt herself and if not put in a safe place, will continue to do so. Apparently something happened (no one seemed to know exactly what) upset her and she began to hit her head against the door. At that point the childcare provider came and got my husband to calm her down which 100% we understand! We don't want her to hurt herself number 1. but also want her to know that she's allowed to be upset but needs to handle it appropriately number 2. Upon my husband entering the room the gentleman told him our child was "not normal" and they could not handle her there. If you are in the business of childcare you should know how to handle a two year old having a tantrum. It's pretty normal and frequent. Period. Wether she should or not, she's two. You're allowed to be upset; so is she but she doesn't know how to express that appropriately. At that point my husband was incredibly upset. Our daughter has been referred out for speech an OT as she may be on the spectrum and to feel like our child is being discrimated against and isn't welcome somewhere because of that is incredibly inappropriate. When I come in the room to confront the situation and figure out exactly what happened, first of all, no one knew exactly what happened. Mind you, these people are NOTORIOUS for being on their phones during childcare hours. Not being able to tell me what set her off to start with is not okay. Second of all, the gentleman then tells me again that she's not normal and that he feared for his safety. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! She's two. There are two adults in here and I deal with her everyday. That's an obsurd accusation to make. He then proceeded to tell me how rude I was. Well no shit. You just insulted my child IN FRONT OF HER and can't do your damn job. This was just the straw that broke the camels back for us. As mentioned above, they are constantly on their phones and are visibly annoyed when we walk in with our children. We get it. Kids are assholes but maybe save that for when we aren't staying you in the face. There is also not a single changing area in the building. They can't change diapers and therefore you have to haul them out to the car if they poop and they WILL come get you immediately. Anyway, obviously we asked to not be billed for May dispite the 30 day notice as we were not going to allow them to watch our children anymore and with my husbands schedule I need that to be able to use a facility that has that option. Plus, we were not leaving on our own regard. We were told she was not welcome there and there for we were not welcome there. The response from the GM? And I quote "no one died or got hurt so I am not required to do that" and we were billed the next day. If he had done right by us and had done what WAS right, we would go quietly but nope. We've since found out that this is a continual issue with them. Go somewhere that is appropriately trained and wants to watch your kids. This isn't the place. Some serious sensitivity training needs to happen here. read more

I've been a member of the Salinas Montage Wellness Center gym for over two years. My first day there I was very impressed by the cleanliness and well laid out gym. Over two years later, it is still clean, well organized and well staffed. Sometimes businesses are like that on day one, but go downhill after that, not Montage. The staff is professional and caring. The assistant general manager, Emily, is fantastic. I take a trip annually and she arranges for my monthly fee to be dropped to only $15 to hold my spot so I don't have to pay the full amount when I'm not there to use the gym. I've worked with one of the trainers, Kelly, and can only say good things about her. She was excellent to work with and now greets me warmly every time she sees me. There are fitness classes and yoga classes with new ones added often. Honestly, I love this gym and I highly recommend it. read more

My husband and I love going here. My husband mostly uses the pools that are rarely crowded. I attend the morning Aqua Strength class with Kellie and use the cardio equipment and strength training machines. Kellie is an awesome trainer and teacher. People who work there are friendly. The masseuse Kate, is fabulous. They offer a variety of classes and workshops led by their trainers who are there to help you reach your health goals. This is a place you can go, workout in peace, have a shower in a clean locker room, see friendly faces, and want to go back. read more

As their names imply, the Montage Wellness Centers in Salinas and Marina are more concerned with overall "Wellness" than the typical gym. They have all the equipment needed for advanced workouts, but at the same time there is not the feeling of intimidation one gets when walking into gyms that focus solely on building muscle. I belonged to the Marina center for several years and loved it, but had to drop my membership when my work moved. After that I tried various gyms on my commute route but found I was working out must less because I just didn't like going to them (dirty, intimidating, crowded). So when the Salinas Montage center opened, I joined immediately even though it's the opposite direction from work. It has the same caring, calm, and friendly atmosphere as the Marina facility - I like going there so I work out more often! People who are very out of shape and just starting an exercise program should feel very comfortable and supported at either of the Montage centers. read more
