Amazing that the GM of this facility is okay with taking advantage of an 18 year old kid and take their hard earned money. On October 2 my son purchased a membership. On October 3 he had to cancel the membership. It was due to a policy of the gym, which we completely understand. My son was wanting to use the racquetball court to practice on his color guard. We had the general manager (Oscar) come tell us it wasn't allowed even though numerous people on his staff told us on 2OCT and even when we showed up that it was okay. Again, we understand the policy and why it wasn't allowed....no issues with that. The issue is now that Oscar assured us that he'd put the refund request in. After a week we didn't receive the refund, I reached out to him, and he said he processed it and said he'd send me a copy of the processed refund. He never sent it. I've gone by and called, left messages....he has yet to respond. I feel that this is absolutely inexcusable, unacceptable, and unprofessional of him. Especially as a "General Manager". I am currently active-duty Army and was assigned here in the RGV area to teach at the university. When we arrived it was an important task for us to try and find a location that could facilitate his ability to practice and even workout. Again, understand the policy....but the lack of common courtesy of Oscar and him basically saying "screw you" to my 18-year-old son who spent his hard-earned money for the membership is ridiculous. Gym looks okay. Staff was all very friendly. GM, needs a lot of work... unless this is how he is for non customers. I'd hope he doesn't treat actual clients like this. read more

To be honest with you, I've been going off and on to this gym for four months and every single time I have went the Jacuzzis outside have not been heated, the sauna in the men's locker room has got trash all over the floor and stinks, the showers never have soap the hand sinks never have soap there's no paper towels for people we want to use paper towels it's just in very poor shape. Why is it that people can't seem to keep up with these gyms anymore as much as you pay for membership? How much were they prefer the Edinburgh gym and the mission gym most of all. Everyone at the Mission Gym is very professional and helpful and saw the staff at Edinburgh. I just wish that Mcallen would get it together because they have so much more to offer in their gym with the inside track ball basketball court, etc. it's a shame to see that people can't even make use of what they pay for. read more

Cleanliness 2 Equipment 2 Ambience 3 Price 2 Service 4 So I have been a member of this establishment for years. I enjoy going to work out and let all my stress from the day be let out productively. However, this location had some renovations, which it desperately needed. It seems that the gym is still going through renovations, with posted wet paint signs around the gym. Cleanliness of the locker room is understandable, wished it could be cleaner, but it's a changing area for a gym... Certain areas of the establishment seems to be storing gym equipment, broken machines, and a tan bed in corners of the facility. I understand the establishment went through a renovation, however those areas cluttered with equipment isn't okay and can be hazardous. The pool looks clean, the hot tub doesn't. Equipment at this establishment are limited. They aren't new but function for its purpose. It would be better if they had more machines so the wait time could be less. The environment is nice. Again it's a gym and you find yourself listening to invigorating tunes to reach your goal. But certain areas are cluttered with broken equipment, or if you look at the stretching section, you'll find a tanning bed upright with what looks like abandon desk items and gym equipment that isn't functioning. The Staff is welcoming and are always greeting you. The graveyard staff seem like they are just trying to get through the shift. Overall, I remember Golds Gym being the pinnacle of all gym establishments. It is okay but the establishment could be better. Hopefully it is just going through a phase of renovation and expansion. I will follow up with letting you know over the next few months of the clutter. Would I recommend this establishment, maybe... It's okay. However the name of the gym was once affiliated with prestige and not of a storage area, limited equipment, and over priced membership. read more

The gym itself is fine but the culture and management responsiveness are poor. Folks rarely wipe down their equipment after use. The ladies gym is all glass so the creepers can see inside. The management is unresponsive to repeated complaints. Specifically after I endure verbal abuse from their trainer Bonnie and submitted two written complaints I never received a response. Better to take your money elsewhere. read more

I have never ever had an issue joining a gym before or refused service. This location and its employees were disrespectful and discriminating. My men and I are here to serve the local community and the state of Texas And are from other cities in Texas. We were told by staff that they would not honor 1 week free pass since we aren't local and that we will not be purchasing membership. I can't believe the disrespect on civil servants coming into this city to support them and turned away for service since we aren't not local. If this is how Gold's gym treating military members for their service to the country then this is a unpatriotic company. read more

Here for work this week, and I am long time member of Gold's Gym. I was under impression I could work out at any Gold's gym around the country as long as it is not highest tier based on my membership. I walked in and showed them my keycard and scanned it, and they said that I was a member of Gold's corporate and this was a franchise location. The guy came off pretty hostile in verifying if I was a current member, automatically assuming I was pulling a fast one and smirking the whole time as if he caught me in the act. Pretty bad customer service and the upstairs smells like fart. If you are signing up for a Gold's gym membership, make sure it is a Corporate location and not a franchise. read more

BEWARE that if you're from out of town, you will not be allowed to work out unless you get some "travel pass" from your home gym. I called my home gym and the manager had NEVER heard of a "travel pass". He offered to verify my information via phone but the staff at Dove would NOT accept it. The staff at Dove was quite rude and unwilling to accept any other form of verification. Apparently the Dove location is privately owned. Nevertheless, they should just use the same system and follow the same policy as the rest of the company. It would eliminate this whole dilemma. This is an issue other members traveling from out of town have also encountered. PAYING members, regardless of the city they are from, have the right to use Gold's Gym facilities!!! If not, then CHANGE the name of your gym so we all know you're not associated with the same company. Ridiculous. read more

i was able to join on a one month trial from groupon. I'm only in town for a few months, so this seemed to work out well. seems like most complaints are from patrons with long term contracts. gym has everything you need... something seemed a bit excessive like a movie theater?!?! also, I wish the stair master had television units. It does get very crowded from about 5-9pm. to the point where you are often waiting for machines. other than that, great gym. read more

My preferred gym when traveling except that the day pass is only good until 12 mid night, regardless of the time purchased. All other Gold's Gym in the area (Mission & Pharr) have 24 hour day pass access. For $15.00, it's not worth it unless you are going to the gym at 12:01 AM which would ensure as close to a 24 hour access. read more

This gym has only 10 treadmills and only 3 have tv screens and only 1 of those screens works! This gym is the most expensive gym in town and I've asked for them to fix the treadmills for over a year and they keep shrugging me off!! Now they have a new room with brand new cardio equipment but make you pay an extra $30/mo to use it! This gym is by far the worst gym I have been to when it comes to working treadmills. Will NOT be renewing my membership. Don't waste your time or your money. read more

The gym is good, I like that variety of activities. I spend 3-4 hrs there lol. First i go in the sauna-relax for a bit and get my face washed and ready for the workout. Then i go for one of the classes they provide, depending the day i go to 1 or 2. After that i go do some weights or take a quick run around their track..or us the trainer running/walking matchine that i loveee. Sometimes i go to hitt the bagg for a while( i find it a great personal space for myself) :). All that being done i go for a relaxing jaccuci time or pool. I do all this when i have the time and im not too tiredd lol. Dont go to look around but while on my journey all this is noticible: The employees, Some are great, they are always smiling and welcome you in all the time. Some need to really work on their customer service skills - i guess once you get to know them their a little nicer but the whole point is to be nice from the start. The trainers, You will have those that you would like to follow and those who you just rather not attend their class. By the results in the wall of fame-looks like they are pretty good so props to all trainers, the thing about all golds gyms is that they usually do get good trainers(them having to get certified and pay 800 bucks sounds like they really gotta be on IT) Golds gym should really appreciate and pay them a little more lol. Defenetily all GOLDs GYM trainers have good reputation. Day care. SUCKSSS I do not understand why is it provided in the contract as a benefit if when you go and take a child - THERE IS A 2 HR limit and then u pay a fee of 2.50 or whatever it iz. It might not be in the contract lol not too sure because i dint get to read it, i might need to ask for a copy never remember to go back and get it. About OSHA, i am not sure how it works at the gym but the pool is good, the jaccuci is good-maby a little too much clorox at time but rather it be that than no clorox at all. The towel they provide to clean the machines-one towel for 5 machines or on every station is not very clean. Paper towels are much better, it might be more trouble for maintenance and the employees buttt heyy we pay or membership, so thenn whatt are they going to want to take 3-4 more dollars a month to provide paper towels instead..OMG..i guess i would go for it. read more

Stay away from this gym! My experience was similar to Charles C. In that I canceled my membership and they continue to charge my credit card. I don't check it very closely every month so they billed me for six additional months and when I called to talk to somebody they say I have to talk to the manager. I ask to have him call me back and he never called. I sent him an email and he never responded. I canceled because the back office staff is generally incompetent. I did do the paperwork and it never got into the system! There are many other gyms. Go someplace else! read more

This gym is run by thugs! A body pump instructor, "Daniel," who often runs late because he often starts too late and then wastes too much time between the segments, arrived late on June 8, 2017 by five minutes. By the time the class finished the last segment, it was well past the beginning time of the next class (it was supposed to begin at 7:30 PM), but he was still doing the stretching. By 7:36, a lot of people left and some were putting back their equipment. My husband, who was to be in the next class, walked in and was getting some paper towels in the back of the room. Daniel ran back to him from the front of the room screaming all the way with the microphone still on, "Nobody don't respect me!" He repeated the same sentence again and again. He was drenched in sweat and angrily shoved his face onto my husband and chased him to the other side of the classroom, shouting the same words again and again. Daniel looked violent and he acted like a complete lunatic. It was Daniel who was being disrespectful and unreasonable. He should not take away other class's time from the beginning. Having someone in the back quietly getting some paper towels during the end of stretching time was hardly "disrespectful" or "disruptive." Apparently, Daniel is very unstable and has some anger issues. Otherwise, he may have had a bad day and was looking for a chance to take it out on some innocent person. Whichever was the case, this was an incident that should never have happened. We filed an incident report immediately at the desk. As recommended by the attendee of the front desk, my husband spoke with the manager, "Oscar" the next morning. Oscar offered no apology and told us to quit if we want to. I called back Oscar to get the refunds for the month of June. Incredibly, Oscar made up an elaborate lie and taunted me: "Your husband admitted that he cussed to Daniel. I interviewed other people and they all said that your husband was rude." I knew he made up the lie because I was there watching the whole thing and my husband was very calm and never cussed Daniel. He never cussed anyone. I double checked with my husband after the phone call. My husband said, "I never said I cussed Daniel, of course not, because I did not cuss anyone." Oscar seems to lie with complete ease. There were very few people left in the room anymore. I do not believe Oscar interviewed anyone. The whole thing was on the camera so he should have known what happened but flatly denied. If anyone actually was interviewed and said it was my husband, not Daniel, who was being rude (which I seriously doubt), that person did not see what happened or lied. According to the management, for an instructor to scream angrily, chase a gym member around, shove his sweaty face onto a member's face, while grabbing an arm, was totally fine, whereas quietly getting some paper towels in the back 6 to 7 minutes after the next class was supposed to begin was so rude that such a violent outburst by the instructor was justified. The reason why Gold's Gym is still in business is because there are so few options in the Valley. We desperately need a Y here. read more

Very condescending front staff. Especially this "David" individual. Zero help, zero professional introduction, manners, or willingness to make the business money or acquire new members. Never even offered to check the system since we had all filled out "7 day trial passes" online, and still didn't let us in. Didn't offer to give the others in my group a tour or help in in ANY way. Basically brushed us off, saying that we needed proof of trial passes (even though we filled everything online) we were there to get new memberships and committed to pay for 2 members for a full year, since our current crunch gym membership was over, (but the facilities are further in our case, and we work late at a local hospital) so Gold's had the same amenities at a reasonable price and closer distance. So we set a date to check it out several of us, and when we finally get there...he made us feel unwelcome. Everyone else was nice though, specially the girls. Never again will I set foot on their premises or do business/recommend them to anyone. Front staff training and customer service are PARAMOUNT to any business. What a shame that one person can negatively reflect the effort, business motto and dedication of other employees. read more

Let me start by saying this... I've been a member for more than 10 years, at first I was happy with all the equipment and all the rest that had to offer. Then my contract expired and I was on month to month type of deal. Unfortunately I was involved in a car accidente and I wasn't able to workout for a couple months and one day I received a collection letter stating that I owed more then $200, when I called to try to solve the issue the guy who answered was extremely rude and said I had no option but to pay. (Take in mind I was not under a contract anymore) I told him that when I signed the contract no one explained what would happen if I chose to be on a monthly basis. Basically he said he didn't care and I still needed to pay. Bottom line if you considering to became a member MAKE SURE they explain everything before you sign anything. PS. So far the most expensive gym in town and equipment always out of service never bother to repair it. read more

I have never been spoken to on the phone the way Oscar Sandoval did just today. I singed up for a membership at this gym a few months ago with a $1 signup. I explained to the person who signed me up that I only needed this for a few months since I would be moving and that a Dr. recommend that I work on my lower back which was the reason I singed up. It was not explained to me at the time that I was signing a year long contract with a $250 cancellation fee. I tried to cancel last week and was told that the manager (Oscar) would call me back. That did not happen. I went by again today and was told I would receive a call which just occurred. He was combative and pushy from the get go and allowed no room for me to explain my situation. I don't understand how people like that can maintain a managers position unless the only need Golds Gym has for him is to push people around who have been screwed over by their bad business practices, he seems to be very good at it. I will never use their services again, they have no business hiring people like that if they want to maintain good client relations. Also, the two rowing machines, which is what was prescribed were both run down and almost non functional. Displays did not stay at level and both of them had broken foot straps. you would think that with a $250 cancellation fee they could afford to maintain their equipment, or even keep the space clean. Take your money elsewhere, they are just running a scam. Not worth the pain! read more

My home gym is in downtown Austin and I'm in McAllen for a couple of weeks, so I decided to visit this location for the duration of my stay. I was able to use my corporate travel pass with no problem. All I have to do is sign a piece of paper each time I go in. The staff is also extremely friendly and helpful. This gym has great amenities- the cardio cinema and the Lady Gold's room being two of my favorites. I have nothing but positive feedback for this gym, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good workout in a clean and friendly facility! read more

Good luck getting your money refunded after you've terminated your contract--- somehow they never seem to be able to do that right. There's never a manager there to speak to nor will they return your call. Biggest pain in the ass of a gym. Their trainers are extremely overpriced for the quality of their service.
