TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SCAMMED. it takes A LOT for me to write a review like this. i need to feel like im literally being stolen from and thats exactly what gold's gym tries to do. i know gym memberships anywhere will try to milk you as much as possible, but gold's gym is beyond unreasonable. i signed a one year contract with gold's gym last january. i had to move across the country that summer, so i put the account on hold for several months until i figured out what i was going to do with the account, since i couldnt cancel the membership until january of this year. i decided i would just continue to pay $30 a month until the contract was over. once it was officially over, i tried to get in contact with gold's gym. the customer service here is the worst ive ever experienced. they refused to cancel the account unless i PHYSICALLY SHOWED UP to the location, even though i told them i could not. they kept on charging me. each month i called they told me the same thing. last month i had to change banks because my old bank is nowhere near my current location. now gold's gym is calling me every other day trying to collect the overdue payments. i called them today to cancel the account. mind you, i havent stepped into a gold's gym since last may/june but have been paying for a year's worth of services, literally giving them free money every month even though i can barely afford to feed myself as a 20-something college student. when i told them sternly that i absolutely could not come into the store, allllll of a sudden they could cancel my account over the phone but ONLY if i paid the overdue fees. all of a sudden i didnt have to show up in person to cancel my account, but i had to pay them what i "owe" them, even though they have been taking my money without me setting a foot into any of their gyms for a year. i wouldnt "owe" them anything if they had cancelled my account when the contract was over and i asked them to, if they had respected me as a loyal customer when i told them i couldnt physically show up to the location. its absolutely disgusting what these people will do to milk you of every last penny you have. read more

If you're gonna go to Golds Gym, don't go to the Montclair location unless you want to deal with rude and unprofessional employees. Specifically, Jose and the manager Jon. Both of them have AWFUL customer service and walk around that place like they own it. Neither one of them appear to have any home training, especially Jose, he likes to walk around smacking his gum, mouth all open while he's chewing. On top of all that, the gym is dirty and the machines are disgusting. I'm sure it would be cleaner in there if Jon & Jose were more more worried about keeping their place of employment clean than acting like they own the place and being dicks. read more

This is a review for the impression I had from entering the gym without a membership looking to start one. It was around 4pm. First off the lady in the front desk had an unwelcoming attitude as if it was a problem me having questions for her. They also had like 6 people in the sales area and just to note two were busy standing outside the whole time I entered and left chattering about who knows what, 4 were in their actual area. Why do they need so many sales people active when it's peak gym hours, I have no idea I'm sure they know. Also there was no training happening when I was given a tour, it made it seem off as the lady giving me my tour wouldn't stop talking about training and making it seem it's the most crucial part of the membership. You even get a discount if you get your membership "with training", though no training was to be found. I even overheard they all make commission off of their membership sales so fyi, they want to upcharge you. As I was given a tour the lady just seemed like she wanted to get me back into the chair as quick as possible, I had to be the one to ask the questions about the gym aside from the training programs again. A lot of the equipment looked pretty dirty upon inspection of them, weights left everywhere yeah it was busy so maybe I came in at the perfect wrong time, also all the windows from the pool viewing, boxing area (which is super tiny btw), cycling room, and Zumba class were filthy but again maybe I just came at a wrong time but damn that was a turnoff. So after touring through it all and being told of the training to where none was found we finally made it back to the chair. Can I just say wow I've been to ufc for a year, Planet fitness for 6 months, LA fitness for a year and never did I feel so upcharged/finagled in all of my gym memberships I've had. To just START your membership which was "on sale" (it's always on sale every gym has this sales tactic) I was told for a month to month basis would be 159$ plus your monthly to start then go to 29.95$ WITHOUT guest privileges, training, or any other amenities. Then for a 12 month but oh you get 3 months free with that so 15 months it's 499$ but at least I had one guest what a joke. I could go back to my previous UFC gym with that kinda money. After I heard that it was all I had to hear but the sales lady was too busy trying to explain why I'm getting such a deal doing "calculations" I just didn't want to shut her down she was on such a roll but before I knew it 20 minutes had past just on explaining why I should buy it. (P.s) if you have to explain why something is worth buying it's probably not worth it, Value speaks for itself. As I was leaving after the saleswoman was expressing how much I should take advantage of the sale. she immediately turned around and said to her coworker salespersons "oh my gosh that was annoying" she kept going on but I heard everything I had to know, I won't be coming here nor to another golds gym. I am an early riser and like to get my workout in the mornings. So I went at 6:30 for the first after 3 months. To my surprise the staff doesn't check the temperature of the members when they go in, nor they don't even greet you good morning. At the gym the machines were far apart from each other, and have signs that they are temporarily not in use, there are probably 2 disinfectant spray bottles that members would pickup and carry them around as they use the machine but will keep them while they're working out. There were no paper towels available either. Most members were working out with no masks. I believe there should be certain rules for members as they enter the gym. Especially if they're not wearing their masks. In the past most members that I've observed after using the machine DONT clean them and would leave them sweaty for the next member to use. I always bring my own towel because of sanitation. Also the staff need training as well. read more

I've been to Gold's in Anaheim (new location), Santa Ana, West Hollywood, Arcadia and West Covina. The location closest to my home is here in Montclair. Despite all of the ones I've visited, Montclair is by far the best location. I usually come during non peak hours for classes and free weights and it's great! It's clean here and most of the machines are well maintained; if machines are broken- then they're usually fixed by the next time I come in. When I was entering the locker room the other day, there was a lady on who was on her knees cleaning the underside of the benches- who does that!!!! P.S- they got an extra star to a 5 star rating because they use good toilet paper! read more

Okay, I've been going here for about 2 years and overall I have had a positive experience. I have enjoyed getting to know some of people working out here. Lot of serious denizens of workout and gym culture here. A positive vibe, and very few lunkheads. If you ask politely for a tip, the hardcores are happy to give you insights. Picked up boxing at this gym. Wish they had a boxing ring and indoor basketball court like some Gold's Gyms that I have been to. I get motivated from being around the regulars who are there to transform their bodies and take getting healthy seriously. ================ The reason I am finally writing a review is that the front desk welcome and service has improved a lot in the past month. There have been some friendly folk working the welcome desk, but it has been spotty. Michael (I keep forgetting his last name) has been one of the hero customer service guys at this Golds. Friendly, considerate and thoughtful, his mother taught him good manners. I began realizing the new people who began working the front desk reflected Michael's personality, so I asked him what was up? He said, he moved back from the sale department to customer service. Now he was helping to hire and personally trained the people working the welcome desk. I had been talking to several of the old-timers and they too have noticed a marked improvement in the front-desk service. I like to encourage people I encounter or see on a regular basis, and so I feel relieved that the service at this Golds has improved. ======== Tony the manager of the gym has also made an effort to get to know my name and greet me personally. On several occasions I have talked to him about concerns about the gym or my membership, and he offers positive solutions to my satisfaction. You got a problem, go to Tony. ========= I have always had a positive experience with the custodial and maintenance crew. Jose was working the night shift, but this young man kept things clean in the changing room and gym. Now he is the head custodian and is diligently trying to get things fix. IS EVERYTHING PERFECT ALL THE TIME, no, but for goodness sakes there are a few slobs, and busy-times, but overall the gym from what I have heard compared to other gyms is clean, well stocked (shampoo, body wash). I have gotten to know some of the custodial staff men in particular, and they have the best attitude. Interesting isn't it? ========= Asniel T. is the Zumba "Da Bomba" instructor, I can't always make to his class. Actually I have only been able to attend 3 times, but his classes are full, and the participants have a whooping good-time. I pick up some weights while I work on my flexibility and coordination. Highly recommend. Seriously the best instructor in the place. ========= My one complaint: They turn off the sauna 45 minutes before closing and the hot tub 15 minutes before closing. The gym is not open 24 hours, so my recommendation is to keep these two muscle relaxing and recovering items turned on till midnight. I can see that other people are also complaining about this. Manager Tony can you tell Jose to do something about this travesty? I will never go to another gym, Golds Gym is definitely where it's at! I have been to many Golds locations, but Montclair is by far my favorite. Their hoist machines - LOVE! They also have a good amount of squat racks and smith machines, and a ton of free weights! I never have to wait for any cardio machines because they have so many of them. Everything is very clean and organized, including the bathrooms and I've seen this first hand - there is always someone in there cleaning! Their staff is always very friendly and the managers always make it a point to smile and say hello - they are always eager to help with anything! I would refer any and all of my family and friends to this location. I will never step foot in another LA fitness or 24 hour again- there's no competing with Gold's read more

If I could leave a negative star review I would! This place is horrible!!!! I went into this location yesterday with my son who's 16. I have VIP guest privileges added onto my membership so I can bring guests when ever I want.... Well the Membership manager didn't allow me to bring my son in supposedly because he's a minor he can't sign in to the guest register..but he proceeded to tell me I could sign him up for a membership though. Ok cool so I can't bring him in as my guest with the privileges I pay extra money for every month but I can add him onto my account? Yeah totally makes sense right ?... I then asked if there was another way I could sign release of liability on a paper copy which some of my guests have done before, he said no. I asked if I could just pay for the day he still said no.. so pretty much the only option I had was to sign my son up for the membership... I then explained to him I worked in the fitness industry for 24 hour fitness as a sales manager for years and I understood what he was trying to do in hustling me to get a membership. I told him it makes no sense for me to sign him up today and cancel tomorrow so I could get a full refund.. he told me he didn't really care if canceled the membership and that it was very easy to do it online and he could show me how. Then he proceeded to $10 close me, "you can sign him up today for just $10".. again I stated that it made no sense for me to go through all of that being that I pay for guest privileges. I was very upset and asked for his District Manager or regional managers contact info, then he told me I have a Regional manager right here and he turned me over to some girl at the front desk in a plain white Tshirt not even in uniform with no Name badge !! This woman didn't even identify or introduce herself by name she just said "hi I'm the regional manager and your son can't come in as a guest he would have to get a membership" This is by far the WORST customer/guest service experience I have ever had !! I even told them that I was going to complain and both the membership manager and "regional manager " didn't care one bit. I went down the street to Esporta fitness and told them what happened and they let me and my son workout Hassle-Free!! I love this gym ! I have been a member at this Golds location for well over 5 years now. It is very well maintained, the equipment is always repaired promptly if broken. The facility is always clean as well . They play current up to date music out loud in case you ever forget your headphones. The locker rooms are very nice. High ceilings , great large mirrors with nice lighting , very clean showers and a eucalyptus steam room . The staff is always very warm and friendly and truly go above and beyond to make you feel at home. I recently had the pleasure of having a free a consultation with a personal trainer by the name of Reggie . He was so helpful and showed genuine interest in my fitness goals . Every time I encounter him he always motivates me and keeps me accountable. He taught me many new moves and provided me with excellent tips and information. I am so thankful for everything he has helped me with ! I also really enjoy the fun classes they provide . The teachers are very sweet and knowledgeable. I especially love the booty boot camp class they have every first Saturday of the month. It is so much fun , and a killer workout ! Malaika always makes it so enjoyable with her awesome vibrant energy . They also have classes for all different fitness levels and desired interests. I enjoy the Pilates class , and yoga . I see woman / men of all ages taking Zumba , or the water aerobics class . They also have silver sneakers for seniors . In addition, this Golds has a lot of cool amenities . As I mentioned before they have a large indoor pool , cardio cinema , artificial grass/turf area with a sled and ropes , boxing and cycling room. They even offer tanning and have a daycare for those with little ones. Over all , I really love this gym and the special team working there who make it so special for all ! I enjoy this gold gym very much. It has various machines and many squat racks to use. The the downside is this gym doesn't care about sanitation. Spray sanitizer bottles are gone most of the time, paper towel dispenser are empty, and worst of all the bathroom are really bad. Two days in a row the soap to wash your hands was empty. Two Days! It's enough that the spray bottles are gone but now we can't even wash our hands probably. read more

I was looking for a good deal on a good gym and found Gold's was doing a new year special. I went with my 9 month old daughter, was given a tour and they asked what was the max I could afford. I told them not more than $40 a month, which worked with the deal. However, they did not tell me that the kids club is an extra $25 a month, even though I had my kid with me and I mentioned how impressed I was with the kids room. So, I decided to cancel the membership only a few days after signing up and I was promised a full refund within 7-10 days. It's been nearly 3 weeks and I've called twice but still haven't received a refund. I feel like they didn't tell me about the extra costs on purpose, they were not eager to let me cancel and now it's been far longer than they said in getting my money back. This is one of the most expensive gyms around, I don't understand why they won't let one person go! I've had a very unsatisfactory experience with them. read more

I came to Gold's Gym because I had lost my motivation to workout. I was at Crunch gym in Upland, and I was not content with the gym. I stopped seeing results because my motivation to workout was gone. I started my extensive gym search, looking at various gyms in the area. Once I took the tour at Gold's Gym, I knew I was at the right place. To begin, the gym is ALWAYS clean. The staff does an amazing job at keeping the facility clean. You will never catch trash on the floor, or stray paper towels hanging out on the machines (this was my main problem with Crunch. I would often see trash on machines for 2-3 days before it eventually got cleaned up). The amenities are amazing. I often find myself at the end of my workout, in the steam room, letting my body detox and relax. The boxing room is pretty cool, and the scan system for any class is really convenient. All you have to do is scan your membership card at the scanner in front of the class you want to take, and it checks you in. This is much better than the manual sign in than other gyms still use. I promise you, if you are looking into signing up for a gym, Gold's is the way to go! read more

I've been a member for a few months now but have only been here literally 3x. My first time, I brought a friend, she signed in; no questions asked. This last time I brought my daughter who is an adult and they did not allow her to workout due to no ID. The guy at the check-in of the outdoor gym told me to speak with Stephanie (inside), and she might work with me this one time. I explained I didn't know that an ID was required and though my daughter is clearly over 18, Stephanie, the manager, declined to allow her to enter the gym. Mostly I'm upset for her lack of comprehension and for someone that works in the customer service field, I know she could've made an exception this one time. Started using this gym because of the price pretty much. Came from LA fitness where I was paying $30 a month. For $20 a month which is advertised all the time and for what you get - clean equipment and facilities... weights Always re-racked in the right places...can't really beat it. The personal training programs are top notch... I'm currently working with Carlos Plascencia who has helped me literally become a different guy in a short time - 6 months. What he does that I haven't actually seen from really any other trainer based on programs I've seen from friends of mine is he doesn't really make you do crazy tough workouts then sends you on your way. He gains an understanding of what you ultimately want to do... helps you do the all the workouts correctly during the training sessions then the most critical thing... gives you a calorie and macro goal with a detailed meal plan to help guide you. I've never actually seen a trainer do that. Maybe it's a Gold's thing... but seriously. I know fitness competitors in the industry - he's one of them and they all stress how critical diet is. If you ever decide to get a trainer... make sure they are willing to help you with calorie and macro goals because THAT is the game changer. If you ever get a free training session from them... request this dude. Trust me. Still here working my butt off. Still working with Carlos. Still no complaints nor any issues. I am in love, (literally) with the Montclair Gold's gym. Tony and his staff are genuinely people loving people, friendly and helpful!!! I recently started coming to this location. I started at the DTLA Gold and then spent a couple years at the Hollywood location and Montclair by far wins for cleanliness, kindness Also the guest at DTLA and Hollywood don't have the same community awareness the I observe from the guest at Montclair to clean the machines when their done. The lockers and showers are clean. I'm so happy I've started coming here!!!!! Great overall experience!!!! As an added plus, Tony, the manager was kind enough to look into points that never showed on my account from another location where I referred a friend and should have received 400pts. I've asked way too many times for the staff to restock cleaning equipment. I will go my entire 2 hour workout with the same supplies empty. People literally walk out of the bathroom stalls without washing their hands. Not sure how management doesn't see this as an issue especially with monkey pox now in Fontana. The gym has severely gone down hill since I started my membership in 2019. They keep taking things away one at a time and expect our membership to stay the same. I hate this gym. read more

So about a little more than a year ago I had a car accident that limit my life a bit and I wanted to cancel my membership for a year while, until i get back to my feet and they didnt want to work with me, was a bad experience and was considering not coming back. I didnt want to leave golds but I was not gonna be able to go for about a year. Sent my stuff to collections... etc. Then today 10/16/2023 I called golds gym and they helped me out. Since I was able to get into a program that allowed me to go for 6 monthes and basically continue where i left off and it would remove the collections/fees. Which is all i really wanted. I was helped by Gabriel and he was the most helpful/patient person I met there. I appriciate him and golds gym for helping me out for my hard times and I promise to be commited for 6 monthes. 6 monthes ain't nothing for me. I have been to a lot of gyms,I travel for work And I have a membership with 24hr fitness,because they are like Mcdonalds they are everywhere.having said that,the Banos golds franchise gyms are the best I have seen.the bad reviews on this gym are from people who are going to complain no matter what.never happy.
