He assured me that he would oversee my training plan, even on days I worked with another trainer. I trained both with the owner and a second trainer. My sessions with the owner were positive, and I felt the workouts were appropriate. However, the issue arose with the second trainer. Although I was paying the higher rate specifically because the owner said he would supervise all programming, that oversight did not happen in practice. At one point, I communicated that I was experiencing pain in my right hip/groin area and asked to scale things back. Despite this, the trainer had me perform exercises like barbell squats and farmer carries. I explicitly asked whether these were safe given my condition, and I was assured they were. They were not. Following these sessions, I was later diagnosed with a labral tear, which has significantly impacted my mobility and required extensive recovery, time, and financial investment. I'm not writing this to attack a small business, but I do believe this situation reflects: * Lack of proper supervision * Inadequate adjustment for injury history * Poor judgment when a client reports pain If you're considering training here, I strongly recommend making sure: * Your program is truly customized * Communication about pain is taken seriously * The level of supervision matches what you're paying for This experience had a serious impact on my health and daily life, and I hope sharing it helps others avoid a similar situation.

The first thing I thought upon entering was that this is by far the neatest gym I have ever been to. Second, I did not have to wait at all; Coach Yajen was very punctual. Third, I realized he was serious about my well-being when he started by asking what I was hoping to get out of signing up with his gym. Then he gave me a realistic outline of what I could expect from this type of training. Once I began going to classes, I saw that the coaches really enjoy what they do. They even invite members to join them for events outside the gym (such as indoor rock-climbing, pickleball, and Spartan races) for which they have no financial incentive. The community of members is so cheerful and supportive of one another that I did not feel out of place, even on my first day. Three months in, I am surprised that I could still regain strength and conditioning so significantly at my age. But what has truly amazed me is how Yajen continues to follow up. He uses objective measures, such as body composition scans and the Level Method criteria, to report my progress to me, in writing, every 1-2 months. He sends text and email messages reminding me to show up for these measurements. He checks in with me whenever I go too long without asking him any questions. He knows my weakness (poor eating habits) and periodically nudges me with specific suggestions to improve. I've gone to other locations too but this one is by far my favorite and feels the least cramped. I specifically go to this location because I do the group fitness class with Diane. My coworkers and I all got memberships because of Diane's classes! I don't understand how she doesn't have more days at this location or any other location. Overall, the LaVerne location is spacious, clean, and welcoming. It is very rare that the saunas are out of commission and if you come often enough the friendly staff will come to recognize you. Suggestions for improvements for the La Verne location: - My coworker has to pick up her children 5 minutes before our group fitness class ends. This is a pretty sucky policy. If a mother is coming to a gym to relieve stress at least allow her to finish her class to the end. It's not a family friendly policy at all. ********** - Replace the bikes (front row) in the theater room with more treadmills. I can't tell you how many times I see people walking out because all of the treadmills are taken but the bike row is completely empty. - Add one more rack of dumbbell weights in the outdoor area.
