No dogs, keep the noise down and be courteous of the plantings. Cedar Beach has a much more pleasant vibe. There's a live band playing and you can bring a cooler with no hassle from the local police. We have a Brookhaven virtual summer pass and cedar beach is a town beach. There's a Veteran discount on the pass, high five Brookhaven! There's a reason why the next town is "Rocky Point". The beaches on the north shore are so rocky! The beaches on the south shore are powered sand, this is a south shore thing that I always like to point out. (My beach growing up was Smiths Point) The band is playing CCR, we're drinking cold beers and having a good time at Cedar Beach. The sun is setting and now we're getting up to dance? I like hanging out.

Lots of huge puddles in the parking lot and on the beach road after it rains. We recently saw a dead hawk and several dead seagulls that have been left to waste away, I guess no-one patrols the area. Litter throughout the beach that needs to be picked up. Multiple dumped canoes in the grass that are not locked up and not supposed to be placed here.

Nearly all of the park is dirty and rock road, not very smooth. Signs are posted that a park decal is required but I decided that was a rule I could bend since I wasn't sticking around. Down the road and out to the end, I found a nice parking area (not smooth and ouchies on my car). Despite the chill and the howling wind, I was able to get quite close to the lighthouse and enjoy the view of Plum Gut. This is the very tip of the northern fork at the very end of Long Island. There are no amenities here. It's a beach park without toilets or shelters. Probably great for fishing. On a warmer and sunnier and less rainy day, this would be a fabulous park. This beach is the only one we found where you could simply drive up, park, and get in the water without spending a dime. The swimming area is marked off by safety ropes. There is at least one lifeguard on duty until 5. You're technically swimming in the Peconic River just before it empties into Gardiners Bay. The view is of Shelter Island, and it's quite charming.

The rest of the park including the carousel is lovely. It's Memorial Day weekend and so they have planted a bunch of flags around. There are several memorials including a plaque mounted on a stone in tribute to the US Merchant Marine during WWII. It is a nice green space with the marina, the carousel, the camera obscura and in the winter time, an ice skating rink. The town's festivals and markets are held here as well. This weekend a last minute arrival by the Draken a Viking ship created based on existing artifacts and trial and error. It was a bit unorganized in the early morning and the Viking village, food vendors and Whiskey tent was nonexistent probably due to the poor weather. But the main event the Draken was there and for $12 you get a short tour of the boat. Very impressive re-creation of what a Viking boat probably looked like. A crew of 30 works this vessel and traveled all the way from Norway and invaded our tiny village of Greenport.

Apparently there is a cafe, restroom/showers open during season. There were rocking chairs out and baskets to collect garbage. Gorgeous day and had fun collecting shells. Tiana Beach is usually my go-to when it comes to the beaches on Dune Road, but curiosity got the…read morebest of me and I decided to give Hot Dog Beach a try since it's a bit closer. The parking lot for this beach isn't paved, so I had a bit of trouble getting into and out of a spot with my car on the sand. The walk to the beach is also further than Tiana with less amenities. There's no food stand and the bathrooms are very bare bones, though there is a shower. Once on the beach though all was well, there was ample sand and surf to be had and everyone there seemed to be having a great time. I did see two dogs during my time here which made me happy since that's how I hear the beach got it's name (though I've also heard that they no longer allow dogs on the beach during main season so sorry if I'm being a narc...no one was enforcing the no dog policy when I was there though!).

Visit Date: October…read more22, 2021 I stopped by this beach after driving to Greenport on the way back to Babylon to pick up my son from school. I found it over the summer but they were checking for residency so I couldn't visit over the summer. This beach is very pretty but tiny. I sat on a log and admired the nature and took a lot of photos. I end up seeing a lot of beaches off season to avoid paying a fee but I'll still hang outside in the cold to admire the nature!
