To make matters worse, the office has a terrible habit of swapping attorneys at the absolute last minute. Right before critical stages of my proceedings, my assigned public defender would suddenly be replaced by someone completely new or so overworked that they couldn't possibly provide effective representation. Patrick Link tried to put a family member up for a witness to LIE ON OATH to say something happened that didn't & when she disagreed to do that, he still went in front of the judge & continued with his made up story while putting my fiance, HIS CLIENT at the scene after the witness said twice under oath, that his client was never even there. I also found out a few minutes before the case was heard that he knew the DA very well, she in fact mentored him. They were very friendly, she made fun of the name of his law firm & all. To me, it seemed fishy, it seemed as if he was trying to make the case go to trial for sure & POSSIBLY even been trying to get a guilty verdict. He is definitely not someone I'd trust with any case ever & I would not recommend him to anyone. Ultimately, the case ended up going to trial because he confused the prelim judge & we fired him after that. Trial verdict was not guilty with another attorney & the case shouldve never went to trial in the first place. I believe it was something he tried to scheme up to get more money. Where do I begin... I came to John Mendy to represent me as plaintiff in a basic breach of contract…read morefor a business (real estate) matter. He seemed easy going and confident in the case and how to handle the matter when I met with him so when it came time to retain him I did so with little 2nd thought. Boy was that a mistake! His rate was modest at $250 per hour but I quickly came to realize that an hour for John is about 10 minutes for a competent attorney. I literally had to answer the same questions 2 and 3 times over the course of a few days. He would text me at random hours to ask me things I explained to him very clearly in our sit down meeting. When he realized he still was not understanding certain facts about the case he called me in for another meeting. In this follow up meeting I rehashed more of what I already told him as he spent the majority of the time telling me anecdotes about past cases totally unrelated to mine. He did all this as he sat at his desk sucking on chicken wing bones over approximately 30 minutes... It was not a pleasant sight. I kept thinking to myself how did I get here! You may think at this point I would have decided to cut my losses and find a professional attorney to work with, but no I thought twice this time but decided to ride things out with John and let him deplete the retainer and at that point I would move on. My experience with John only got worse. I will simply spark notes the top 5 memorable things John Mendy did during the brief time I hired him to represent me: - He speaks of himself in the 3rd person. On multiple occasions he told me "John Mendy this or John Mandy that". - He was especially boastful at his "skills" in the courtroom. So much so that his efforts were not at all focused on settling the case, rather taking things the distance to the court and running up his bill. - He does not utilize technology besides his phone, which he texts with. I could not email him files. He needed everything printed in extra large format and personally brought to him. - He has a temper and became angry and questioned my dedication to him when I could not meet with him on short notice to discuss my case. - He spreads himself too thin and will take on any case that comes to him whether it be criminal or civil. Instead of focusing on one area of the law and perfecting it he tries to be a "jack of all trades" John Mendy proved to me beyond the shadow of any doubt that he is not only not a competent civil attorney but based on my experience with him if he were the last attorney on earth and I were in trouble criminally i would hands down choose to defend myself.
