Always a great experience here! We often stop in after work or early on the weekends, and it's become one of our go-to spots to relax and have some low-key fun. The atmosphere is calm and quiet, which makes it easy to enjoy without feeling rushed or crowded. The driving range is a great deal in the summer for $18 for an hour--well worth it for the quality of the facility and the overall experience. Much to our surprise, Big Bear had a lot to offer. For a family with teenagers and adult children. The entire indoor space is themed around Minnesota woods and is well landscaped with faux pine trees, rocks, and rivers. We also happened to play the indoor mini golf on New Years Day and it was decorated for the holidays. A nice touch this time of year. The theme is subtle, but as you play the course and read the titles of each hole (Northern Lights, Bear Paw, Walleye, Snail, etc.), everything starts to come together. What really sets this course apart from many that we've played are some of the clever hole designs. For example, the shape of Bear Paw looked just like a bear paw, Big Bear is definitely worth the long trip out to the deep burbs and I especially recommend it to anyone with kids. Only to arrive and the door locked and no one around. Sad to bring visitors from out of town and have this experience. Probably won't try again. read more

As Minnesota sometimes does, it gave us extra days off of school. What to do when it is -20 degrees Fahrenheit outside? Why golf of course! We ended up coming here after seeing a Groupon. I mean, who doesn't want to save a couple of dollars? Right? So, we basically got 2-for-1 golf and drinks. In addition, since the temperature was so cold, they had a pizza deal too! All in all, 3 of us had a few hours of fun for only $20! As you walk up to this modern-ish warehouse of a building, it doesn't leave you much to hope for. However, when you step inside, it is as though they took a scaled model of (insert popular golf course name here) and fit it inside this building. The course is complete with quality turf, water, rocks, challenges, a putting green, etc. 18 holes of indoor fun! And, of course, a chance to win a free round at the end. (Since it was -20 outside, we didn't hit up the heated driving range even though it was free. It is not easy golfing in winter boots...yeah, that's my excuse.) The counter also doubled as a bar where you could keep up-to-date on your latests sports news. There is also a small, yet reasonable selection of adult beverages and soda for you to enjoy while golfing. This is also where we found out about the pizza (frozen, but at least now you know what you are getting) deal. The service was awesome! The girl behind the counter told us to let her know when we 'made the turn' (if you don't know, go ask someone) so she could put our pizza in the oven and have it ready when we were done with 18! Between the deals, service and atmosphere, you can really tell this place is run by some stand-up people. It is a little off the beaten path for me to frequent, but I am sure I will be back to try out the outdoor range. Next time I will leave my winter boots at home! read more

I was intimidated at first when my boyfriend and I pulled into the Golf Zone parking lot. There were some serious golfers there for the range and there was a club repair trailer out front. We walked in and there's a big wooden bar where you can hang out, have a drink and wait for your turn to hit balls outside. That's where you pay for your mini golf. The whole location is in a big warehouse and when you're at the holes of the perimeter of the building in the winter, it can get cold, so maybe layer up. They do also serve pizza. Heggies. Yum :) We didn't order one but if we came here again I think we would plan to do dinner as well :) Be prepared for some difficult mini golf. Some of the holes have fun challenges with multiple hole options to make the game more interested. And of course it has some of the classic diabolical options that remind you why you don't golf that much in the first place. This is a family location. We got stuck behind a few families with young kiddos who are just messing around and having a good time so while those parents taught their kids focus and patience, we would just replay a hole and wait our turn. No big deal :) Kids are kids. And we weren't in a hurry. All in all, a great date night and we will definitely go there again. read more

I love Golf Zone!!! They have heated outdoor driving ranges so in the winter you can still hone your game so you are ready for spring. For the driving range you can rent a bay by the hour if you would like. If a driving range is not your thing perhaps you should stay inside at the mini golf. The mini golf course is challenging but fun. They keep it in great shape and it never gets old. Cost runs approx $11 per round but if you go online you can always find a BOGO. You can also get this same offer if you log into your Verizon rewards points and redeem a few for the BOGO offer. To make things even "more better" is the fact that this place also sells beer and pizza. Yes they have beer!!!! The pizza isn't half bad either. I didn't really have high hopes for it but after splitting one between the four of use I have to say it was better then expected. Maybe my expectations were set low to start with on my mini golf pizza but it beat expectations. One thing I do miss is the outdoor, real greens for the mini golf. Prior to the reconstruction of the 101 bridge they did have one of the only outdoor 9 hold mini golf courses that was natural grass greens. Since the construction of the bridge when Carver County Highway Crew tore up the course they have not rebuilt it yet. Hopefully they do because for me that was a huge draw. read more

This is the first putt-putt place I have ever been to that has a turf grass course, and I was pretty impressed. They also have an indoor course as well along with a driving range. The other interesting thing is you can drink beer while you play indoors or outdoors if you are so inclined. Although it is missing some of the classic reasons you go to play mini-golf such as the creepy blue water, the windmill and some sort of clown contraption, but it is still enjoyable. So for a random Saturday/Sunday activity I would come back here and maybe have a go at the indoor course to see how it compares. read more

We had fun in the middle of winter. I bought a Groupon for mini golf and drinks for 2 and we went in the middle of winter for a fun afternoon. I loved drinking a Coors Light in winter, inside on a cold afternoon. This place is no where near my house, but it was worth the trip. It was very busy on a Saturday afternoon with other couples, families, kids and people having fun. The golf is not challenging or complex, which works great for me. My only recommendations - they should offer a place to set your drink while golfing. Or, even better - bring a bottle koozie if it's cold outside. The place is heated, but still drafty. read more

We swung by here on a Friday during the day, there were about 5 other small groups golfing as well. We had a coupon for four people to golf, and each person got a drink (pop or beer). The course uses the space well, but it seemed like it hadn't been kept up. Half the christmas lights strung throughout the trees were burnt out, half the trees just weren't even plugged in. They had music playing loudly, but it was f*** this and sh** that, there were kids and families in here! Luckily only my family seemed to notice, but come on... cater to your audience here people. Great for what it is but if you are looking for traditional mini golf with obstacles and wackiness this is not it. This is more of a practice mini golf course and unfortunately that's not what we wanted when we stopped in so we left right away. Great staff. Accurately priced. And I love the fact that I can hit in a heated bay during the dead of winter in Minnesota. If your final tee time for the evening is at 9 p.m., it should say that on the website. Instead the website indicates that golf zone closes at 10 p.m. - nothing about the 9 p.m. "last call". We arrived at 9:10 and were turned away. ..even though we offered to just pay and golf until 10 and quit at closing. ..even if we weren't finished. Still a no go. Very disappointing! read more
