Jerry is the man. went from consistantly shooting in the low nineties to constantly shooting in the low eighties. what I really enjoy about golftec like the name implies is that they use a ton of technology to improve your game. two cameras are set up one from behind and one from the side and you can see the exact degrees you turn your body and can be compared to pros! it's not some random guy at the range telling you to "try this and try that" it's real numbers and you can't argue with that! Best instruction possible, bar none. Pros are top notch. Technology is second to none. The ONLY way to get better is to see yourself on VIDEO. That is what the Tour Pro's do when they can. They also look at your numbers, and honestly know how to analyze. As opposed to the goof balls at Golf Galaxy/DICKS/WATTS, who tell you what you want to hear, and sell you a $600.00 driver, which you still will hit all over the place. Spend your money here, and I bet you start liking what you already have. If you want to go pound balls in100 degree heat and drill your bad habits in, then keep spending $12.00/ bucket and have at it. OR Go get TOTAL INSTRUCTION in 72 degrees, 365, and IMPROVE!!! Golftec is the best place to take lessons if you are serious about improving your game. I have taken a few lessons at other places but Mike Ray has helped my improve more than anyone else. The practice facilities include cameras and launch monitors so you can see the results of each swing. Golf swing aids are also used to help "groove" your swing. All lessons are recorded and available online to be reviewed or downloaded. All the feedback available is very helpful for retaining knowledge. I highly recommend Golftec. read more

I've been taking my girls to Baird Kingswell-Smith at this location for a few months now. It's unbelievable how quickly they've been able to learn the game. My oldest is 16 and couldn't even hit the ball when we arrived and now she's about to break 100 which for those of you who are golfers, know what a huge accomplishment this is and how amazingly fast she's gotten here. Our 4 year old loves going to golf lessons and is swinging a club well for her age. Even my 10 year old is placing in junior events. I highly recommend Golftec and more especially Baird if you're looking to get your kids started or even if you're looking to improve your own game. I've even taken quite a few of the pointers his given my daughter and my own game has improved. read more

This review is for the GolfTec at 1604 and Blanco, which is located inside the Golfsmith (I didn't want to leave a bad review on the Golfsmith page because I really like the place). GolfTec is another story; earlier this week they had a special ad on the Golfsmith website saying "Come to GolfTec for a free golf swing analysis on Thursday and Friday this week from 2-3". They required a reservation so I signed up for the 2:45 slot on Friday. I specifically planned my afternoon at work based on this commitment, even moving my 2:30 meeting to another day. I arrived to find one of the GolfTec guys talking to someone; not wanting to be rude I stood by the sign-in desk for about 5 minutes waiting to be acknowledged. Finally, the guy comes over and asks me what I need. I tell him I have an appointment for the free swing analysis and just responds "Um I doubt it because we don't have a 2:45 time slot". So I show him my confirmation email and he just says "Yeah well I'm helping this other gentleman and we don't have anyone else here, but I can do your analysis in an hour", he goes on to say that he had no idea about this event. I absolutely HATE making appointments and planning my work day around them just to find out that they cannot accommodate my commitment. If you guys are going to advertise an event and require people to RSVP at least provide good customer service or notify people that you will be short staffed. I am clearly not the only person bothered by this because they mentioned I was the 3rd or 4th guy that came asking for the swing analysis. read more

I took lessons at the Golftec at 1604 and Blanco, but I just wanted to write that this is well worth it if you want to really get serious about improving. There is absolutely no substitute for being able to see yourself on video, from different angles, with a teacher teaching you. I laugh now when I go the driving range and watch people kidding themselves, as I did, that they are practicing. Practicing the same wrong swing is a waste of time, but doing it over and over again on camera is what it takes. I've had private lessons before and I've bought tons of golf aids....but nothing beats this system. Mind you, it took lots of practice, but at Golftec, while watching my swing in video, over and over again. Not mindlessly flailing away at a driving range. I only wish I discovered this 30 years ago. I love the way my ball flies off the club face now, and the trajectory. I was a 13 handicap or so, who would occasionally shoot in the low 80s....rarely but occasionally. So I was not a slouch, who got by with an awkward swing but blessed with good hand eye coordination, but this Golftec system is amazing. I love my little push draw now, rather than my left to right weak hits. Again, it takes practice, but practicing correctly, with immediate feedback of each swing, on video, not simply blasting away a bucket of balls with your driver. Any good player or teacher can watch your swing and tell you how you should do it, but only you can actually swing your club, and seeing yourself with video and their analysis tools is the best way to teach your body the right way to move. I want to comment on the negative reviews that Golftec, located inside the Golfsmith at 1604 and Blanco, has received. I have not experienced any of the things mentioned by the negative reviewers. The customer service has been top-notch, the lessons (4 so far, plus a swing analysis) have revolutionized my "baseball swing". I am hitting the ball straighter with better contact. The manager and lead golf instructor, Mike Ray, is my coach and I could not be happier with his easy-to-understand way of teaching the proper swing, stance, and rhythm mechanics involved in swinging a golf club. I have been golfing most of my life and I have received plenty of driving range "tips" from golf pros and numerous lessons from the same. None of them could do for me what just ONE lesson with Mike has. The use of computer and bio-mechanic motion sensor technology and two-angle cameras allows for the pin-pointing of trouble spots in my swing. We identify them, Mike explains the proper technique to me, and I practice (over and over again) on camera until I get a "feel" for the proper club or body position. Mike even creates a side-by-side comparison of my swing with those of well-known tour professionals and we review the film together. Each lesson builds on the last and reinforces lessons previously taught. It's ground-breaking stuff and I noticed IMMEDIATE results in my golf game. An issue with the high price of lesson packs was raised. Look folks, golf is hands-down the most expensive sport to get started in and to stay current in. If you guys are like me and lose sleeve after sleeve of golf balls every time you play ... it becomes even more expensive. The reason you lose golf balls?? Your swing and mechanics suck. Simple fix? Take lessons. Better fix? Take lessons from golf instructors like Mike that endure years of special training and formal schooling before they are qualified to teach the game to others. Leveraging all of that knowledge at once into a 30-min or 1-hr lesson is not realistic. Proper golf lessons require PLAYER commitment over the long-term, i.e.- multiple lessons over the span of months or years. However, learning the right way to do things will result in cost savings in the long-run through fewer lost balls, less wear and tear on clubs, less purchasing of newer "miracle fix" clubs, and more enjoyment with the game. Golf is not cheap. If you complain about the $40-$80 price per lesson, then it occurs to me that you are not serious about improving your game ... the PROPER way. I am not made of money, but I view professional lessons as an investment into my future in the sport. I will enjoy years of good golf because of Mike and the Golftec training philosophy of using SCIENCE and quantifiable numbers to improve players versus the traditional "tips and tricks" others give you at the driving range. Mike and his team are standing-by on a daily basis to help you all get started with improving your swing, decreasing your handicap, and increasing your love for the game. It all starts with you making the decision to COMMIT to your future in the sport and visiting their office for your free swing analysis. I highly recommend Golftec, located in Golfsmith at 1604 & Blanco, for golfers of any ability. All of the Golftec coaches at this location are very knowledgeable and enjoy helping their clients. The practice facilities are comfortable and include high speed cameras, motion analysis equipment, launch monitors, and TV's to see exactly what each practice swing looks like and the resulting ball flight. The swings can be viewed in slow motion and stop action to check positions and angles. Numerous golf practice aids are also available to help with swing path, impact, etc. Lessons for me are usually very simple with only 2 or 3 things to work on at a time. Lessons are recorded and posted on a private area on Golftec's website, where they can be viewed or downloaded. Reviewing previous lessons and drills is very helpful, and having them available online is a good way to prevent losing the knowledge. Lessons and practice sessions can easily be scheduled online. Golfers can also schedule practice at any of the Golftec facilities around the country, where they will be welcome. I've hit balls at many other locations when I'm traveling. I've been taking lessons from my coach, Mike Ray, for over 2 years now. I've played golf for many years, and I've taken lessons from some of the top teachers in the country, including people you see on TV every week. Mike has helped me more than any of the famous instructors. I've found that a lesson or two from an expensive instructor results in temporary improvement, but not lasting improvement. There is no substitute for the instant feedback from the Golftec practice and repeating the swing or drill on camera many times. The way you think you're swinging at an outdoor driving range is usually different than the reality you view on the real-time videos. Even though I'm an avid golfer, I also recommend Golftec for beginners or casual players. I only wish something like this had been available when I first learned the game.
