Pros: - Property - beautiful, picturesque, well maintained. - Amenities - the Stable Pub is fantastic, great food and beverage selection. The breakfast was also incredible, traditional English breakfast with plenty of selection for everyone. - Price - very reasonable for a nice facility! - Staff - great staff at the desk and Stable Pub. Took great care of us and responsive. The manager in the Stable was great and made us feel at home. Cons: - Room - incredibly small. While comfortable and had basic amenities, but our room was very small. The bathroom was also very basic with the smallest shower I have ever seen. The amenities are nonexistent. The soap was a squeeze bottle mounted to the wall with the shower having a combination "hair/body" wash. - Air Conditioning - fortunately it wasn't terribly hot but found the air conditioning in common struggled to keep things cool. This was common in all areas including the wedding and reception as well as Stable Pub. The room had a potable fan because there was no air conditioning. We weren't in the room during the day but it was warm at night. The beauty and staff at the property made it great. The facilities are very nice but be forewarned about some of the idiosyncrasies. I'd recommend but likely ask for a bigger room and a bath with a tub and shower.

So, as a wedding venue it was really good. It was actually my first wedding so I don't really have anything to compare to, but the service was streamlined and lovely - a special highlight was the bride coming down the isle to a wonderful acoustic version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow - it felt like a Wes Anderson film! But everything went perfectly smoothly, all of the staff were excellent and there were no hiccups whatever. The meal was probably a 4/5, but I didn't really care by that point! The evening entertainment was basically a not huge dancefloor with some decent pop songs and a few random awesome choices (Crazy Crazy Nights - get in!!!). So as an alternative to a church wedding, this was rather excellent. Now, from the 1:30pm start, the night went on and on after the scheduled entertainment, into the bar area and reception area until maybe 4-5am for a couple of us. One thing that we benefitted from was the presence of other random guests staying at the hotel who hadn't been there long and so still fancied a drink when most had gone to bed! For this, the bar selection was pretty decent. Lot's a variety in the spirits department, and a couple of good draught drinks - I was mostly on draught Budweiser, which I don't see very often. Also, at £3.50 the price could have been a lot worse! Anyway, the room was clean and spacious, with a really big, comfortable bed. Breakfast was surpringly awesome as well - a couple of different types of sausages and hash browns for example for a bit of variety. Of course, I couldn't finish what I'd started and had to go back to bed for an hour before leaving, but all in all it was an excellent experience, and one which I'd love to do again. Oh and they have both giant Jenga and giant Connect 4 in the garden - and who doesn't love them?!?!

Unfortunately though the group were in great spirits there were a large number of things that just made this place unbearable. Firstly the decor: The hotel section especially is in dire need of a full redecoration. Peeling wallpaper, smelly communal spaces and tatty carpets were found throughout. In fact the only place which seemed to have been looked after was our room, however despite the competently hung wallpaper there were still a few crucially lacking features, most importantly a safe (which we were told there would be for the wedding rings, meaning keeping them in someone else's room overnight). The bathroom was a bizarre mess, simultaneously clean and dirty. The cheap lino stuck to our feet getting out of the laughably small showers with it's semi-functional door. It is only fair to say that the house-keeping had done a good job and everything was as immaculate as they could make it, so it's not laziness, just dilapidation and incompetence. Secondly the house-staff: While one of the bar staff and the breakfast staff were very nice and pleasant they struggle to make up for the remaining staff. Upon arrival we were just stared at blankly during check-in (not even a hello), during our evening in the bar the staff were slow and rude, one girl especially had a habit of announcing the prices while thrusting her hand over the bar and not making eye contact. "Five Ninety!" *thrust and look away bored*. Thirdly the smell: I can't comprehend exactly what is going on here but throughout the night we encountered a large variety of very unwelcome smells in the hotel. From a faint whiff of bowel movement in the corridors, to a mixture of urine and bleach in the bar, to a rather unfortunate vomit odour in one of the breakfast rooms. I can't tell if this is a product of recent nights of the long encrusted truth of what happens at your average Wortley Hall bash, but it was unpleasant to say the least. Lastly, the fixtures and fittings: This all culminates in the most bizarre feedback I could ever give to a hotel. The overwhelming impression that the entire building was appointed for the dwarves from Lord of the Rings. "What kind of a comment is that!?" I hear you ask. Well what else am I to think when all the mirrors are at a height of 4'6" and all the light bulbs are so dim I think they actually produced darkness? This decision to make all the rooms the Gimli suite may we be deliberate ("It was deliberate!") but that doesn't make it any less a bad idea. Also, I though I did know Dwarves were natural sprinters, I didn't know that they didn't like condiments with their breakfasts. Not a jot of brown sauce, a dollop of ketchup, or heaven forbid a little piccalilli was on offer. Better get some beanjuice while you're up! The most saving of graces here are the grounds. Lovely, well kept and well described. I would only add this, go see them before someone sets up a bouncy castle or a sumo ring in them, which appears to be a daily occurrence around 11:30.

We had drinks at the bar and went to check in whilst waiting for the ceremony to start. The room was tad small but was clean with tea and coffee facilities. View of air con! Hence 4 stars. The wedding was outside over hills, great scenery and was sunny! The whole day went swimmingly, staff were experienced and friendly. Our room was comfy, clean and quiet. We enjoyed our stay.

The menus were dumped on the table in a pile and we waited ages for someone to ask for our drinks. When the waiter took our order i asked for my burger to not have certain items on it and he looked very confused. So i specified exactly how i wanted it as i am used to doing so and he talked over me dismissing me as if to say "yeah i get it". The food itself was incredibly disappointing given the prices charged. The brioche was sad and thin and you only got one slice with a large serving of pate. The extra bread we ordered was doughy and undercooked. When the burger came not only was it wrong and not what i ordered it was also incredibly dry. I was annoyed but given the waiters dismissal of me not completely surprised. I left most of it and it has left me feeling quite ill. I've had better burger in Five Guys for half the price. I ordered a hot chocolate for dessert and it was really cheaply made. Clearly just hot water, no milk was used and was covered in cheap tiny marshmallows . For £4.50 this is an absolute rip off give you can get much higher quality stuff in any other restraunt i've been to. On every level it over promised and underdelivered. We were left ignored most of the time, no one came to ask if our food was okay. After they delivered the food they would disappear so fast and wouldn't ask if you needed anything else. Definitely would not recommend, the only reason i didnt give it 1 star is that the venue and drinks were nice enough but absolutely would not return.

The reception staff were very nice and very helpful, however the building and rooms themselves are poor. The entire building including the rooms have creaky floors and oversold decor when examining the decor shown in pictures. We requested no housekeeping when asked at check-in, but still had people knocking the next day. The beds are uncomfortable, old and collapsed as seen in the images which doesn't help sleeping at all. The fitted sheets don't fit the mattresses which is uncomfortable. The rooms themselves are also very dirty in corners, edges and crevices, and clearly hadn't been cleaned in months. What added to our distain, which wasn't the hotels fault, were the constant construction sounds from outside which started at the crack of dawn every day, amplified more than expected due to the single glazing in the rooms. I'd have chosen another hotel if I could do it over, but it's good to know for next time

The Met is a long standing traditional hotel in a stunning Grade II listed building. That gives it loads of character that other hotels in the city lack. It's also been recently refurbished inside, so it's elegance from start to finish. So we've established it's got the looks, has it got the moves to back itself up? On my experience it has. Good customer service and very willing staff make my stay even more enjoyable. If you need something (within reason and legal), then just ask and they'll do their best for you. I was tempted to try for a giraffe and a trumpet but I thought I may get ejected. It's not the cheapest; if you want cheap then you know where the travel lodge is. Having said that it's not stupidly priced either. Plus it is a lovely stay and you deserve to spoil yourself from time to time. Go on, you know you want to!

Apart from the hotel, there is also a Spa, Club, Gym and Play area for the kids, its like a smaller version of a wacky warehouse called Woodys, its a lot airier and modern, with big glass windows! The inside play area is more for the under 5's but they also have a large park outside for the older kids. The staff are helpful and friendly, and they also have an offer at the moment for Parent and Toddlers from 11.30 -2.00pm you can get a free hot drink if you stay and play.

I visited recently with my family to have a Sunday meal in the Hotel Restaurant and it was awesome! We met up in the Conservatory first then made our way to the restaurant. We were shown the menu and there was an excellent choice of starters, main courses and desserts - something for everyone! The staff are very friendly and professional and the table service was excellent. From ordering our food to having it served at the table was very quick and the food was hot and delicious. We didn't feel pressured or rushed to finish, it didn't matter how much noise we made (within reason!), there were strains of happy birthdays being sung around the room at other tables! Well worth the price, which I think was £15 for a three course meal served to you at the table (we were with family members who paid for the party, so not 100% sure of the price). Definitely worth a visit for a Sunday lunch! Highly recommended.
