The charter service operates from a little past flood season in the spring until early October. We chartered them for a groom's dinner. The boat is both elegant and comfortable. It is nicely appointed but they don't allow stiletto heels or black soled shoes (it wrecks the decks) so you have a good excuse to kick off your shoes and relax. The cruise was a great alternative to renting a hall or private room in a restaurant and the price is comparable. We had about 25 in our party. It POURED for most of our cruise, but the boat has a large indoor lounge area and there was enough seating for everyone. Besides the captain, we had two really friendly, competent servers who kept us all dry and made sure the bar and buffet stayed well stocked. Food is all buffet style, catered by the Lake Elmo Inn (yum!) and ranges from appetizer trays to full meals. Meals range from lunch buffet ($15/person) to Captain's Choice ($38/person) with a minimum of 20 people. Drinks extra; they have a compact but full bar. Summer on the St. Croix is fleeting and fabulous--take advantage of this while you can!

There were several specialty shops and small cafes. I liked the boat club and took photos of the riverboats. The river was frozen in spots so I wasn't able to take a boat ride. The town was bustling with locals and visitors. I plan to visit again during the summer. If you're even in the Minneapolis area, I highly suggest you visit this town and boat club.

When we tried to start our pontoon boat it was no longer nice. Our boat would not start (the starter had failed). We called the Stillwater boat club and 1hour and 45 minutes later they arrived with a different pontoon boat. Now, I could name the young man who brought the pontoon boat down for us but I don't want to get too personal. I just want to say that we were told, by the fore mentioned young man, that there would be a discount on the fuel and the rental to make up for our time marooned. Here is what we received: An approximate discount on fuel of $10 and a promised $50 discount on the next $490 pontoon rental (gas included). Moral of the story: If you would like to give up 20% of your time on a pontoon and receive a credit for that loss of enjoyment of 10%, go to the Stillwater Boat Club and Rentals. -John C.

Buffet is tasty and plentiful. The ramp is a little steep if you have walking issues and the boat (Avalon) has three tiers so you will need to climb steps. I write this not as discouragement, but a heads up just so you understand potential challenges.

I purchased tickets a day in advance just in case they filled up quickly. I purchased 2 adults and 1 child ticket. My son was so stoked to go on his first trolley ride (he's 6). We got a huge surprise when we pulled up to pick up our tickets and my son's local school bus driver (Terry) was going to be driving and giving us the tour today! Yay! What a treat! We got great seats on one of their brand new trolleys. Terry drove us around downtown Stillwater very carefully and we learned lots about this amazing lumber hub back in the day. We also got to drive by some historic and beautiful houses in Stillwater (north and south hills) with amazing views. We had a blast and I would highly recommend this as a great tour if you want to learn about the birthplace of Minnesota and take a break from walking Main Street. They also have some seasonal and other trolley offerings like princess story time or another seasonal spooky tour in October. Check it out!

We spent an unforgettable 10 days hiking the (express!) Inca trail to Machu Picchu and visiting Lima, The Sacred Valley, Aguas Calientes and Cusco. I could write 10 pages about how much we loved traveling with Knowmad so I'll try to stick to the highlights. My husband and I usually handle all of our own travel planning, but when we came across Knowmad while researching how to visit Machu Picchu we realized we would probably get a lot more out of a trip to Peru traveling with specialists from the country. He looked out for us every step of the way and made us feel like family throughout our time with him. Our trip wouldn't have been nearly so memorable without him. Another highlight was our e-bike ride through the Sacred Valley with our awesome guide Kirvi, who was so kind and on top of making sure we were safe and even getting some awesome photos and videos along the way. Our driver Abraham made us feel so welcome and kept us moving along and safe throughout our trip. The restaurants and hotels Knowmad arranged for us were excellent, and our picnic in the Sacred Valley and Pachamanca experience were unbelievable.
