This class is generally offered once a month on dates that would not work for me in coming months, so I really appreciated that Ellie in the office put together an off-cycle class that worked for me. My goals were to get time on a catamaran and get some local knowledge of Catalina Island. Our instructor Lori was very knowledgeable about the basic maneuvering we were able to cover in the class, and it was obvious she is very experienced going to Catalina. She was patient and observant and provided specific feedback as I got used to using a twin screw moving around and docking in the marina, and anchoring and picking up a mooring at Catalina. One thing to be aware of, and this is not a criticism but a trade-off for this class, is that the trip to and from Catalina uses up a lot of time that might have been spent on additional docking practice (maybe add a day?). Further, on this particular trip due to winds we motored both to Catalina and back which limited the actual sailing time. For my purposes that was not an issue since I was focused on local knowledge and already had significant bigger boat experience on monohulls since receiving the US Sailing BBC rating years ago. We picked up time though since Lori made the decision to have sailors come provisioned and pick up additional stuff at Two Harbors, which I was really glad about since the syllabus seemed to suggest that we would use up valuable class time talking provisions and going shopping. I definitely recommend Blue Pacific, and Lori!

Though we didn't have certain questions or requests answered, it made sense when we got there. Changes in port locations and boats happened but again, Guinevere contacted me right away to make sure we were good to go. PROVISIONS: 5 stars We were curious what provisions were provided and never got a list. The reason is that it's based on season and availability. The variety of food and beverages provided on the boat was excellent. The only critique I have is that I would portion everything out a little smaller. There were huge 2 lbs balls of frozen fish or shrimp. I was able to portion them all out to have multiple meals however. BOAT: 5 stars Though we were assigned to a smaller boat than I was hoping for, the Vada Louine was an excellent boat to learn on. She was very good to us. SAILING CLASS: 5 stars.... Students: 0 stars Ok, we suck. We did what we were told and got the books and read as much as we could before the class. But never having been on a sailboat ever, it was like reading a foreign language. The classes and certifications was like being fire hosed with information and terms. By the end of the class, though, the reading made more sense. And having the hands-on experience on the catamaran was not only helpful, but invaluable. CAPTAIN JIM (Instructor): 5 stars + 12 jars of crunchy garlic (inside joke) We couldn't ask for a better Captain and instructor. Not only was he a great instructor, but definitely a mentor, a role model, and a confidante. He not only taught us and supported us, he also "rode the waves" of emotions that we went though on this journey--the excitement, stress, fear, and joy. He shared his wisdom, experience, as well as provided us an adventure of a lifetime. I cannot express how great he is--a wonderful instructor and human being. All in all, what an amazing trip, learning experience, vacation. I have and will highly recommend West Coast Multihull to anyone interested in learning. I definitely want to do this class again.

I had the opportunity to do a walk through on many of them and they are all very clean and well maintained. I can't say enough about the company and with the new construction underway, Harbor Sailboats will have a new modern office and dock area. There are ton of play activities for the kids: blue climbing mountain with slides, cool spaceship looking merry go rounds, swings, climbing, obstacle courses, etc. There are tons of tables, benches, and lots of shady areas for picnics or relaxing while the kids play. It was awesome to find this playground ride down the road from where we were staying. Too bad this is our last full day in San Diego.

What about great views of the harbor and city skyline on the other side? Yup it has that too. I come here many times with my dogs, as the dog park is a decent size for medium dogs to run around in. The dog area may not have grass, but it has dirt, and is usually kept clean. I actually prefer the dirt compared to artificial turf. Something to note is that there is only one park, so big dogs are combined with small ones. Theres a small obstacle course for dogs to jump and run through. And for the humans, there's also a few benches on the side to sit at.

This is more based on the dog park that's on the same lot as the Children's Park. This one uses…read moreturf, which i find has it's benefits on the days after a rainstorm since it doesn't get muddy. There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.

I sat far back today, sitting on some rocks, ear buds in listening to my favorite playlist and just meditating while Mother Nature put on her beautiful sunset show for us. Spending 4 days on the water on Venere was a time of pure bliss and rejuvenation for me! The boat is in pristine condition, it's big and roomy, with comfortable bed, salon, and cockpit, and it's in the ideal location. The Hyatt Marina is beautiful and peaceful; just the distant occasional bark of a sea-lion, a seagull, and the gentle lap of the water on the boat's hull. We had dinner at the Red Marlin one night (with the marina discount, yay!) great food and beautiful view; and we got food and ate in the cockpit watching the sunset other nights. Captain Don is super friendly and the sailing excursions we went on were top notch. During the sail on Venere, we were surrounded by thousands of dolphins and though i've been sailing all of my life, it was truly the most wonderful sailing day ever. Captain Don knows sailing like no other; handling the boat solo with no sweat whatsoever. The location is ideal as you are so close to jump out into the ocean while the Quivara Bay is so quiet, unlike the marinas in SD bay which are in the airport flight path. i will definitely be back to have another stay on Venere! read more

Gone Sailing Charters is an amazing way to experience Mission Bay and the San Diego coastline. Captain Don is extremely kind and accommodating for his passengers and although we planned on whale watching, the lack of whales didn't bother me at all! The ride itself was incredibly enjoyable and we managed to hang out with a few pods of Common dolphins & Pacific White-Sided dolphins. The sailboat is AMAZING! My wife and I had a great time sailing with Gone Sailing Charters! Fantastic crew and such a fun evening on the water. Crew is very friendly and even let us borrow a blanket as the sun went down and temps got chilly (would recommend wearing layers). Beautiful views the whole time and overall very fun experience. Captain Don and crew took our work team of 12 out for a two hour ocean sunset cruise. Even for those of us from San Diego, we have never seen our city from that view. This class is generally offered once a month on dates that would not work for me in coming months, so I really appreciated that Ellie in the office put together an off-cycle class that worked for me. My goals were to get time on a catamaran and get some local knowledge of Catalina Island. Our instructor Lori was very knowledgeable about the basic maneuvering we were able to cover in the class, and it was obvious she is very experienced going to Catalina. She was patient and observant and provided specific feedback as I got used to using a twin screw moving around and docking in the marina, and anchoring and picking up a mooring at Catalina. One thing to be aware of, and this is not a criticism but a trade-off for this class, is that the trip to and from Catalina uses up a lot of time that might have been spent on additional docking practice (maybe add a day?). Further, on this particular trip due to winds we motored both to Catalina and back which limited the actual sailing time. For my purposes that was not an issue since I was focused on local knowledge and already had significant bigger boat experience on monohulls since receiving the US Sailing BBC rating years ago. We picked up time though since Lori made the decision to have sailors come provisioned and pick up additional stuff at Two Harbors, which I was really glad about since the syllabus seemed to suggest that we would use up valuable class time talking provisions and going shopping. Though we didn't have certain questions or requests answered, it made sense when we got there. Changes in port locations and boats happened but again, Guinevere contacted me right away to make sure we were good to go. PROVISIONS: 5 stars We were curious what provisions were provided and never got a list. The reason is that it's based on season and availability. The variety of food and beverages provided on the boat was excellent. The only critique I have is that I would portion everything out a little smaller. There were huge 2 lbs balls of frozen fish or shrimp. I was able to portion them all out to have multiple meals however. BOAT: 5 stars Though we were assigned to a smaller boat than I was hoping for, the Vada Louine was an excellent boat to learn on. She was very good to us. SAILING CLASS: 5 stars.... Students: 0 stars Ok, we suck. We did what we were told and got the books and read as much as we could before the class. But never having been on a sailboat ever, it was like reading a foreign language. The classes and certifications was like being fire hosed with information and terms. By the end of the class, though, the reading made more sense. And having the hands-on experience on the catamaran was not only helpful, but invaluable. CAPTAIN JIM (Instructor): 5 stars + 12 jars of crunchy garlic (inside joke) We couldn't ask for a better Captain and instructor. Not only was he a great instructor, but definitely a mentor, a role model, and a confidante. He not only taught us and supported us, he also "rode the waves" of emotions that we went though on this journey--the excitement, stress, fear, and joy. He shared his wisdom, experience, as well as provided us an adventure of a lifetime. I cannot express how great he is--a wonderful instructor and human being. All in all, what an amazing trip, learning experience, vacation. I have and will highly recommend West Coast Multihull to anyone interested in learning. I definitely want to do this class again.
