Sad because I thought I reviewed this in 2016! It's 2022, and I still remember my 25th birthday sailing with my friends because it was THE perfect day and perfect experience! Thank you! Hoping to do it again.

Beautiful view of downtown at dusk

We booked a sunset cruise to celebrate my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary with a private, unique experience and were so impressed with the professional and personalized service from Captain/Owner Jason. Due to COVID we wanted to avoid large crowds and have an outdoor experience with the ability to take off our masks in open air. This was the perfect thing. We planned ahead and got a takeout dinner and met at our designated dock, then after a brief safety tour of the boat and equipment, we set sail. One of the main concerns we had was potential motion sickness and although the harbor is fairly calm, if a large boat goes by, a wake will still make other boats go up and down. In the first few minutes, one of our kids began to feel sick, but Jason knew what to do. He actually asked our son if he wanted to help steer the boat, as this could help him get a clear view ahead (instead of sitting on the side), and also direct where the boat was going. This brilliant idea helped Significantly and averted a possible miserable cruise. Everything after that was Smooth Sailing the whole way and the kids LOVED it. Jason made sure we were all taken care of the entire time and the anniversary celebration was so special and unforgettable. I would definitely do this again and if you're thinking about creating a memorable experience for someone in fairly calm waters with a beautiful view I would highly recommend booking a cruise. ----TL;DR---- PROS: this was an amazing, personable, safe, private, affordable, memorable, experience and we'd definitely do it again. Drinks and snacks are included and you can bring your own food/drink too. CONS: None, other than there is a very tiny chance of motion sickness from very small waves from large ships passing by. This lasts a few seconds and then the boat is still again. If you're prone to motion sickness, wear the sea bands and/or try Dramamine, but all of us are prone to it and only my most sensitive kid had an issue at the beginning with 1 boat wake and then it was fine. It is a boat, after all. BOTTOM LINE: highly recommended! Jason is so nice and professional, and the boat is very comfortable. There's an obvious reason they have all 5 star ratings on Yelp!

This makes the fifth sail boat company I've used to enjoy the water, sunset and the outstanding views of San Diego. To date, Jason and Lucky Sol Sailing are the best out there! The boat itself is kept in excellent condition and is very easy to navigate and move around in. Jason is a great communicator, natural to talk with and made the trip even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend using Lucky Sol Sailing because I am confident I will be going out again with them. P.S. Make sure to ask Jason how he got the name Lucky!

Took my family on a private sunset cruise with Lucky Sol in September 2020 and we all had a fantastic experience. The Owner/Captain Jason was awesome. Very friendly, courteous and informative. Made us all feel comfortable immediately. You can bring your own food, liquor, soft drinks (don't forget the ice) on board with you. You can eat down below in the kitchen or on top. Before taking off, Jason gave us a safety briefing in case anyone got hurt, and what do to. He let my two teenagers help steer the boat, which they both loved. The views were wonderful. The photos awesome. The entire experience was very enjoyable. I've been on the San Diego Hornblower. For less money you can for a family of four, you can take a private cruise, and miss all the extra fees and crowds that you experience on the Hornblower. I highly recommend Lucky Sol and Jason to all of my family and friends. Next time we are in San Diego Lucky Sol will be a must for my family. Thank you Jason.

I am a person of few words. However, few words is all it will take for the amazing time my husband I had out on the Lucky Sol Sail with the owner Jason. Jason definitely gives a personal touch!!! Thank you Jason

Perfect sunny and beautiful day for some sailing around the bay with Captain Jason. Jason gives a great tour of the bay but not before making sure everyone knows the 1,2,3's of sailing safety. Thanks for a memorable day on the water. We'll be back!!

Nice boat and a great time! They offer a complimentary selection of beer, wine, soft drinks and water. Chips, crackers, cookies, and popcorn are also there to munch on. Our captain, Bret, was friendly and knowledgeable about the harbor and local boats. Bathroom on board is a nice plus, especially, when drinking cocktails. Definitely recommend!

This was my second time on this sail with Jason and it was awesome again! The first sail was a sunset sail with my BFF and we had the boat all to ourselves. Jason is so personable and such a great host! This time was a morning sail and we shared the boat with a couple other people and it's was just as fun! Sun was out, nice breeze, and Jason was as friendly as ever! I can not recommend this sail enough! We will be taking the sail with every trip to SD I'm sure!

Went on a cruise as a group of 6 and it was amazing. The weather was perfect and our captain Jason was very genuine, laid back and knowledgeable as he filled us in on safety tips before taking off. The boat is beautiful and we enjoyed drinks, snacks and music during the tour. Already planned our next cruise for a sunset/night tour. I would definitely recommend Lucky Sol Sailing to friends and family. Simply breathtaking.

This was a significant life event for me and a fabulous memory. Its so great seeing San Diego from a whole new perspective and I would recommend this to tourists and San Diego locals alike. P.s. Jason is a great captain.

This is my first yelp review of ANYTHING. However, I feel it's more than necessary. We went on a sunset sail with Jason and it was absolutely incredible. He had beer and wine and played country music for us the whole time. Not only was it an incredible experience, but Jason is an incredible person. Easy to talk to and fun! If you visit San Diego, please please please go and experience this. The night skyline is just breathtaking. Thank you for everything Jason!!

I went on the sunset cruise last night with a group of friends and it was nothing short of amazing. Not only does Lucky Sol support local charities but their service is what creates an unforgettable experience. Jason is a great captain and his boat is so cozy! I felt at home and relaxed while we sailed the San Diego Harbor. The boat is equipped with a bathroom, kitchen and ample lounge area. You can move around the boat and find your favorite spot (mine was the front of the boat) Did I mention there are dolphins in the harbor? Need I say more! Without a doubt I would recommend Lucky Sol and Jason. Perfect for couples, groups of friends and families! Looking forward to my next adventure! Thanks again. :)

Ask the Community - Lucky Sol Sailing

Can we bring a 5 year old?

Yes, children under 13 are welcome aboard our Private Charters.

Can I bring my own food and drink on my tour?

Yes, but no red wine please (it can stain the decks)

What's included in the sailing tour?

Beverages, snacks(cookies, chips, etc). We also have blankets and jackets for our guests to use while aboard.

What should I wear for my sailing tour?

Dress in layers appropriate for conditions keeping in mind that it often feels 10-15 degrees cooler on the water. If it's sunny, and it's always sunny, sunglasses and a hat are a good idea. Wear comfortable shoes (No heels please)

How many people can your sailboats accommodate?

Our sailing yachts can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people. This gives everyone plenty of space and makes for a more intimate and personalized experience.

Whether you're a local or visiting San Diego this is a really fun activity on the weekend with yummy drinks and good vibes. Originally we were booked for a 10:30am tour that goes out to watch the sea lions out on the bay, unfortunately not enough people booked that one so it was cancelled. Even though our original plan was cancelled Tiki Time Tours went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience and not only complimentary upgraded our tickets to a more expensive tour, they also gave our party a free round of drinks for the inconvenience! I think this speaks a lot about a company; anyone can be happy with customer service when everything goes according to plan, but the most important times to step up is when plans get cancelled/changed and that's exactly what they did for us! Instead of the sea lion tour we ended up doing the Tiki Live! tour at 3pm. This tour is about 2 hours and while you're out on the water you mingle with everyone else and play games that can win prizes for yourself, your party or the whole boat! The games were fun, interactive and silly. At some points we got close enough to shore and made people on land be a part of our games! Donny was our tiki tour master and he was really funny during the whole tour. In between games he just let the music play so we could enjoy the atmosphere and drinks. My entire group left with nothing but great things to say about the whole experience. My friend even won a free tour for another time so we will definitely be returning for more tiki fun.

RANDOM SUNDAY -…read moreStunning Views - Drinks + shots - Stunning views - chances to win money and prizes My friends randomly saw this boat and said we should do it for fun. Tickets were around $47 per person for a 2hr water tour around the Bay in a boat decorated in tiki decor. For tourist this tour is great with a ton of fun information about San Diego and stunning views in the water. Minimum 8 people on the boat or there may be cancellation of the tour. PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS. The guide will have some friendly trivia for a chance to win good cash prices, free drinks, gift cards, etc I think that was pretty fun to include in while getting a tour. If you are sensitive to getting seasick, I would recommend a Dramamine beforehand. Although the boat was spacious, it still felt the wakes from the other boats and you can go rocking. In addition there were slow times of moving and turning. Or you can just chuck down a few drinks and feel numb to it all! They have a Tiki Bar with a drink menu (no food) to purchase from and if you bring snacks to eat - you can't eat it on the boat. Drinks were good but their "house" made shots were pretty good! We had a couple rounds of those while on tour - paid round by a passenger or a free shot in the house by the staff. The awkward but not so awkward would be mingling with other folks on the boat that you don't know. One of my friends kept interjecting with another party and while they seem to not mind I could tell they were being polite but if it were me I'd probs be annoyed if someone kept interjecting while I'm having a good time with my friends. Although we all got along and occasionally shared cheers with shots. Luckily the boat was near empty with just a few of us to have some space to do your thing. Overall, nice little 2hr time in the water. Would highly recommend the later session to catch the sunset. Until the next review....

So you can focus on documenting your group and the good time, They'll capture the animals! :) This crew was Captain Vanessa, Naturalist Ruth, Deck crew Colleen and Sara, and Galley Oscar. They were all so helpful and accommodating. I cannot tell you how warm and inviting they all were. You could definitely tell they loved their jobs. For me...So, despite Dramamine and sea sickness bands I got really nauseous; and I think my 3 year old did too but couldn't verbalize, because she passed out about 1.5 hours into the trip-so I was just kind of sitting towards the back holding my toddler mid trip. Which is about the time when the whales appeared! (Up to that point we saw different birds, pods of dolphins and sea lions.) So these whales on our trip were on the starboard side when they appeared, but I was on the port side, kinda stuck sitting with my sleeping toddler. At one point Colleen came and asked if she could help me move to see the whales, but that was easier said than done, especially not feeling well. I let her know she was sweet but we were okay. Well as the boat tracked the whales, I guess Colleen and Sara both mentioned to the captain that we were kind of stuck in the back on the Port side and the captain ended up turning the boat towards the whales so I could see them. It was the sweetest thing and I felt so seen as a mama. :) I didn't know how a whale watching trip could go above and beyond, but they did! We did a 12:30pm tour on a Monday and there seemed to be a good crowd, but they were not at full capacity, which meant moving around was an option for those that wanted to. We will be back, this was a great choice!
