We hired Marco from Hardwood Flooring to refinish two bedroom floors and the stairway in our 1910…read moreArts and Crafts home. He came twice to the house, spoke with my husband and I and assured us that the work could be done while we were away for a one week vacation. He promised that the bedroom floors would match the hallway color and gloss and that the house would be ready for painting and installation of a carpet runner upon our return. He gave us a bid and, while not the lowest bid we received, we decided to go with him as he was recommended by a friend. About mid way through our vacation, I texted Marco to inquire how the job was coming. Marco exclaimed that they forgot to do the steps, but assured me that they would be done when we returned in three days. Upon our return we found the company van parked on our curbside, which was muddy and full of deep tire tracks. Inside the house we found that the bedroom floors did not match the hallway gloss, a patch needed to be done in one room and the wood was a different grain and color ( looks horrible!), a new doorway saddle was installed which also did not match in color and the work on the stairs was substandard - they didn't clean out the caulk and stained right over the lumpy bumpy mess. Our painter spent considerable time cleaning the corners out and restraining the wood under that caulk before painting. On top of all of that, his employees had removed the tape we had placed over the doors to our master bed and bath. Someone had deficated in the toilet of our marble bath, tried to unplug the toilet with the toilet brush and had splashed feces all over the bathroom. Marco came to the house, was argumentative and rude - denying any responsibility for anything. He lied about telling us that the color and gloss of the floors would match and his employees lied about having soiled our bathroom. Wish we had not hired this company. Lesson learned - be wary who you trust in your home. Worst home renovation experience ever!

After…read morethe job was "done", I found that his sloppy workers did excessive damage to my newly painted walls and ceilings, in addition to missing several areas that were not done. In addition, he applied wrong poly finish from what we agreed to use. While I fully understood there would be some paint damage as I have been through this process before, the damage done was excessive and purely due to the laziness of his workers. Instead of apologizing, Marco got nasty me and said it is what it is. He may seem like a nice guy at first, but don't be fooled.

The old door, which I think was the original one from the 1960s, was in awful shape; it didn't close cleanly, it didn't lock properly, and the insulation around the perimeter was severely lacking. On the appointed day, NY Renovate got a team down to us first thing in the AM. They ripped out our door toot sweet and put in the new one along with some great sidelights in just a few hours. They also installed all the lock and bell hardware at no extra cost. Once again we were extremely happy with the job NY Renovate did. Wholeheartedly recommended for any home improvement project.

We had a couple of people coming to offer us some quotes and advice. Poli came in and was instantly the only one we were going to start this adventure with. He was honest. Not pushy. Understood our needs and dreams and tried to make them fit in our budget which is probably not the usual large budgets he is dealing with. Yet - he offered us a 5 star service and we are so happy after already a few weeks of us living in the house while he renovates the first floor. The work flow is fast. The team is clean and discreet. I can already see the end and I must say I already want them back for the next project. I don't think many people offer such a level of seriousness and high ethics. I am sure their business will make many more happy home owners :) I will post some pictures once we are all done !
