Dear Gonzalez Meat Market Management, I am writing to formally bring to your attention a concerning experience I had at your Lancaster, California location. My intent is to make you aware of several issues related to both food safety practices and customer service, as these are matters that directly impact public health and customer trust. First, I observed what appeared to be serious health code violations. During my visit, a staff member handled raw meat and then proceeded to touch other surfaces without properly washing or sanitizing their hands. Specifically: - Raw meat was transported from a neighboring location and handled in a way that created a risk of cross-contamination. - The individual handling the raw meat also handled the exterior of the bag, which can transfer bacteria. - Afterward, the same staff member touched cash from the register, soda cans, and prepared food items without changing gloves or washing hands. This sequence of actions raises concerns about cross-contamination and food safety, especially since customers directly consume these items. Secondly, I would like to address the customer service experience. At the time of my visit, there appeared to be insufficient staffing, with only one chef and one cashier managing a high volume of customers. As a result: - There were approximately 20 customers waiting, and service was significantly delayed (around 20 minutes or more). - Several customers ahead of me were still waiting when a customer who ordered after me received her food first, despite placing a larger order. - My order was simple (four carne asada tacos and Mexican rice), yet it took longer than expected without clear communication. Additionally, I was informed that the grill was down, which contributed to the delay. While I understand that unexpected issues can occur, this was not communicated proactively, and there was no effort made to accommodate or compensate for the inconvenience. I had requested grilled onions and grilled jalapeños, and given the delay and circumstances, it would have been a considerate gesture to provide these at no additional cost. Instead, I was charged and met with an unprofessional attitude when I raised concerns. Overall, the combination of potential health code violations and poor customer service created an experience that was both disappointing and concerning. I hope you take this feedback seriously and implement corrective measures to ensure proper food handling procedures and improved customer service moving forward. This place has strong potential, but a few operational improvements would really elevate the customer experience. During busy hours, more staffing and a clearer order system would help reduce long waits and ensure customers are served in the correct order. I'd also recommend reinforcing basic food safety practices like preventing cross-contamination between raw meat handling, cash handling, and food prep, as well as keeping the grill consistently running during service hours to avoid delays. As much as I wanna support my local meat market I'm afraid I've had enough. The produce is always so terrible, moldy and over priced. Every time I order meat they always over shoot the pounds on purpose, I asked for 2 pounds how did I end up with 4? And when I say something they take one piece out. I've also noticed they try to give me the stringy pieces instead of the actual pieces of meat. I also asked for 3 pieces of chicken and I saw the butcher sneak in a 4th piece as he was about to close the bag. I told him I said 3 and he said yes 3 but here I am with 4 pieces of meat. It's usually the older butchers that do this too not so much the younger ones. I order a certain amount for my family so it doesn't go to waste but I always end up with so much extra it's irritating. read more

Went, yeah, forgot to leave a review. I didn't know they had a restaurant next to the market. Delicious. Customer service was great. I love hole-in-the-walls; they are the best. Tacos are $1.50, which is a great price for good tacos. Highly recommend, especially if you are on a budget. The only thing is maybe a little more seasoning on el pastor and carnitas. But I'm giving this place five because it was amazing customer service and they are generous with the serving size. I'll be back again! Plenty of parking. read more

If you live in the AV, this is a great place to get meats. We recently needed a whole hog for a retirement party and struggled to find a place that could deliver. One call to Gonzalez and a fresh pig was on the way! Price was great and the quality of the pig was amazing. Don't be intimidated if you've never tried a Mexican style butcher shop. Just tell the team what you are looking to cook and be amazed with what they offer. read more

In my opinion, the only place to buy Carne Asada and Pollo. They prep it fresh and their customer service is great. The Carniceria is always clean and bright. I recently tried their ceviche de Pescado and you could taste the freshness. One of these days I hope to wake up early enough to get to try their aquachilles. read more

A cool spot for groceries and a small restaurant side to get delicious tacos, tortas, and more! We came here for a quick bite yesterday with family and were so impressed by how flavourful and fresh everything tasted. We ordered: tacos, mulitas, hamburger and fries, milanesa torta, and a menudo and everything was great! I really liked my asada tacos and even the hamburger that my daughter got had an asada seasoned flavor which was nice. We also shared a couple of sweet corn tamales and they were perfect! The staff were so friendly and helpful, we will definitely be back when we are in the area to visit. read more

I went to Gonzalez meat market to buy a whole ribeye with no bone. So they had to get a guy from somewhere next door to come in and cut the meat. I told him I wanted a whole ribeye, cut in 2 inch pieces. He came out with a ribeye with bone. I told him I do not want the bone just the ribeye meat and trimmed. He didn't understand me because apparently he doesn't speak English. so he cut the ribeye bone in all without trimming it, and put it in a bag and that was it! so I had to pay for the bone and the fat! I stopped by to buy some meat for a party. All of our guest including myself were happy with the quality of the meat. I was able to get a few other items I had forgotten to get when I went grocery shopping which was nice. It's not just a meat market it's a small grocery store, and they have a small restaurant as well. All the cashiers and the gentlemen serving at the meat counter were nice and welcoming. No one had an attitude which is rare these days. I would recommend. read more

This place opened up nearby and I am not disappointed. The restaurant side is good with plenty of options and the service is great. The market side has plenty of options as well as the price is reasonable. Will definitely be coming back for the tacos, burritos, etc. The market display of the fresh meats and pricing is a definite come to place. read more

With all the "good reviews" I thought go ahead and give them a try. Well I have to say it was the worst Carne Asada I have ever had. It was so tough it was inedible. And yes I know how to cook it! I called before I wrote this review to try and come to a fair resolution but I was told there was nothing that could be done unless I had some uncooked meat? Really? How is that possible when I was cooking it for dinner and then found out you would need a chain saw to cut it? I spend over $170 (15 lbs.),on meat and was told I could come back in and get 2 lbs.to make up for it? Wow!! That isn't want I would call a fair resolution! And to get the same crap? No thank you! Any reputable place would make it right! Definitely think about coming here if you want good meat! Keep it simple - go to Vallarta or Costco, you will be much happier with the quality of Carne Asada! With how much everything costs these days you don't want to waste your hard earned money on something you can't even eat! My message to the owner... next time if you sell something that isn't the quality people pay for, you should make it right after your product ruins someone family dinner! read more
