Can I give 10 stars? I cannot say enough about Gonzo / Kellie in one little yelp review, but I'll try! Our dog is a shelter pup with extreme fear of other dogs to the point that when she sees other dogs in the street her first instinct is to lie down and cower in fear. After this fear manifested into reactive behavior towards dogs we were at a loss and sincerely considered whether our home was right for our otherwise sweet loving pet whom we'd grown enormously attached to in just a few short months. After reaching out to a contact in the community we were connected with Kellie and she changed the whole dynamic. While Kellie took our situation extremely seriously, she also gave us the initial confidence to move forward with our dog and helped us begin to understand her behavior. After each session Kellie does a detailed recap of her observations about your dog and tips and pointers about how to help shape its behavior. Then typically within 24 - 48 hours she will touch base again after she's had some time to go through her notes, do some research, and give an even deeper analysis in a recap email w/ additional tips and strategies. Kellie is unpretentious, she doesn't feign having all the answers on the spot, which I appreciate so much. It is very obvious after just a session or two that she is spending as much time on your case after your session wracking her brain and all her sources and community connections to come up with strategies to help attain your goals. Kellie is 100% force free and uses positive reinforcement to curb your dog's behavior. She doesn't offer any quick fixes or cure alls that use fear or dominance to strong arm your dog into submission. Her goal is boding you to your pup, having them look to you as "pack leader" and creating a lifetime of sustainable behavioral change in your dog. She really leaves it up to you, and If you are willing to put in the work with your pup I promise there is no where you cannot go with Kellie as a trusted advisor. I think the case with our pet was a very extreme one, and one that challenged all of us and one we all grew though together, Kellie included. However after a few months of hard work and dedication I'm so proud to say that our scared little pup was just successfully able to complete a 30 minute "pack walk" with another helper dog, which is just absolutely something we never ever could have dreamed of even just this summer. Sadly we are moving out of Brooklyn to the west coast and one of the saddest parts of that is losing Kellie as a trainer. However, I now know Kellie has given us the skills and confidence to continue to understand our dog's behavior and that she's always just a phone call away for advice or even just a shot of confidence. From the moment we met her it was clear that she is passionate about working with dogs and helping them live their best lives. Before our first training session, she took the time to thoroughly understand our dog's history and our relationship with her. Our pit Louisiana was a big ball of anxiety when we first got her, which made her aggressive and very reactive to dogs and people coming into our home. She immediately took to Kellie, however, and we were able to cover a lot of ground each training session. We learned strategies to gradually build positive associations with knocks on the door, walks, and seeing other dogs. Kellie also gave us strategies for training Louie in the home and getting some of her energy out through structured activities.
