I live in The Bronx, work in Manhattan. I have been to Barbershops around Manhattan but they were always a lot more expensive so I was looking for a more affordable option close to my home. I came across this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. First of all it's much more affordable and in my opinion it's better than the Manhattan barbers I have been to. Great barbershop! I have been going to other spots far from home for a while to get a cut of my liking. I was thrilled to have found Good Fellas and David who was very professional and detail oriented. David takes his time and more importantly makes sure that he completely understands what you really want. Although I did not get a haircut from Mike (yet), from the looks of it he was giving nice hair cuts as well! The atmosphere in the barbershop was very nice and clean. This place is a nice locally-owned spot in the Bronx, and it can compete perfectly fine with places in the city. I came here because of its proximity and affordability. Left pretty satisfied. When I went in, I was expecting to walk out with a combover + fade w/ a hard part. I asked David, the barber who seemed to be running the place, to do what he thinks looks best. About 30 or so mins and a good chat later I walked out with a flat top + taper w/ a hard part. While it wasn't what I expected, I liked it very much (the hard part being especially dope; also, I appreciated how David asked about the thickness of the part, something a lot of older barbers assume for themselves, a very good plus). Equipment-wise, there was everything necessary for my cut. And there didn't seem to be any gimmick sets of extra clipper blades, rows of straight-razors and safety razors, and weird out-of-place old-timely photos that I could see. It's really just him giving you a cut with his workspace and I liked that. Now here is the part that I disliked: the gel. When my hair was cut, David used gel to push it up to see how it would look styled. The problem: I don't like gel as my hair somehow ends up damaged when I use any kind and it makes my hair spiky, shiny, and less wavy. Now David had no way of knowing that I don't like gel, so I won't hold it against him in the rating, but I would like to see him style with forming cream or other easy-to-wash-out hair products on customers (ask which one to use before styling their hair). This way my hair can keep its waves (as opposed to spikes, which I hate how they look on me), softness, and matte. People at Einstein-Jacobi and folks who live nearby, go to Good Fellas, it will not disappoint. read more

Just moved in to the area and have been searching for a new barber to keep up with my desires for a modern look for my hair and beard. I came across David and the Good Fellas Barber Shop during my Yelp search and decided to stop by for the first time. Immediately I was warmly greeted by the owner David and sat down to wait my turn. The shop was clean, organized and appealing to those of all ages, from kids to seniors. The wait was not a very long one; once in the chair I quickly gave David my instructions and off he went. He works carefully, perfecting his craft and it is very apparent how skillful he is with the clipper, scissors and straight edge blade. He would take his time to make sure he got every angle and cut right and would stop along the way to ask how he was doing and ask whether or not I would like anything different along the way. I appreciated how often David involved me and asked for my input and feedback. The haircut and beard came out flawlessly and I was pleasantly surprised. David works really hard to connect with his customers and obtain the perfect look for his customers. It is very apparent how much he values his customers, let alone a first time-walk in. Definitely my new go to guy! I am looking forward to seeing David run the business here at Good Fellas and continue to keep up with the hairstyling trends of our generation. 100% recommend this shop.
