I'm confused by the good reviews posted about Good Guys. My experience post sales has been poor: After agreeing on the quote and submitting supportive documents for my tree removal application, I've called the office 3 times in the past two weeks trying to get an update on whether my application has been submitted, and the person answered the phone always told me "XX will call you back", but I never heard anything back. I completely understand there is a pandemic going on which may impact their responsiveness, but they should be able to take 30 seconds to respond. Turns out my application was never submitted in those two weeks. Now I'm stuck with two hazardous trees in a winter storm and again, no one answers their phone or returns my phone call. This level of unresponsiveness is something I have never seen before. Won't recommend. read more

Avoid at all costs. I have used them in the past with good work, but the most recent time was a disaster. They missed sucker branches on one of the trees that I asked for them to clear, but most importantly, after they sent the invoice, they harassed me like a deadbeat, acting like debt collectors. They sent the invoice on a Monday afternoon. Over the next three days, they called four times, sent a second email, and texted. Six total follow up attempts over three days on a three day old invoice. I don't know if they are having severe cash flow issues, or what is going on, but I don't appreciate being treated like the scum of the earth for, once again, a three day old invoice. I generally pay my bills once a week, but I guess that's not soon enough for this firm. Only use them if you're willing to be treated like scum. read more

Good tree trimming, bad processes and management. We had repeated missteps with scheduling our appointment, followup on questions after the service was completed, and long periods where we didn't hear anything from management. Our service took place 10/21 and we didn't get to a final agreement for payment until today 11/23. Such an ongoing long process talking to our salesman, the owner, and the central office. All haphazard and them expecting we'd be available by phone or if they dropped by (calling on their way). When we expected to do the final quality control walk through we got the run around a bit from Jose (salesman) and Bob (both talked to us separately) and ended up just closing it out unfinished to what we had expected in the proposal. He was incredibly responsive and patient with us as we hemmed and hawed over what to do with our trees that were damaged in the ice storm. Had Good Guys come out and assess our pecan tree. They said it had to come down. They cleared it with the city and all I had to do is call 811 for utilities. Sure enough when they cut it down there was a large hole in the center of the trunk. They came back on another day and removed the stump. Their communications were great. They gave me regular updates. Pricing was good. The workers were all friendly, fast and left the area clean. I would highly recommend them!!!! read more

They came with a crew of 10 people with chainsaws and were incredibly fast and knocking it out! They were friendly and did a good job of cleanup as well. For the first few times (annually) my mother and I used Good Guys Tree Service, it was pretty decent. However this time around was totally unacceptable. My mother made an appointment for them to come out and give us a quote to trim the trees on both of our properties. The appointment was at 11:00am....it is now 1:27pm. Total no show!!! Good Guys were recommended by a neighbor. It took a little longer to schedule after initial consultation (obviously because of COVID), but I wasn't really in a hurry. They showed up wearing masks, and kept a safe distance during our conversation. The fact that they were bi-lingual was great, too. I had a dead tree removed from my backyard today. The price was under $900. They were fast, and there were many on the work crew. They did a pretty good job at the clean-up. There were many small twigs left on the ground, in the gutter, and on the roof. (Just saying in case someone expects a total clean-up) I asked them to be careful with scraping underneath the patio roof with the branches as they walked them to the truck. This was my first experience with hiring a tree service. We recently purchased a home with several mature oak trees, and I wanted to make sure they were healthy and didn't drop limbs on the house. They responded to my inquiry quickly and provided an on site quote within a few days. Mike wore a mask on my property, which was appreciated, and walked through my yard with me; helping me by identifying trees and over grown shrubs and explaining what they would trim and why. I needed 2 large limbs, multiple dead limbs and limbs rubbing the roof removed. Called Good Guys and scheduled a quote for the following week. Jose came as scheduled and was on time. Jose was very friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough. We walked through all of my needs and he line-itemized so I could budget the work accordingly. The quote was ready in 5 minutes (included a 20% disc from the flyer I received) and sent via email to my phone as we talked in the yard. I reviewed the quote and found it fair so I accepted it via the email tool (very easy). Jose informed me that the job would be entered in the queue and may take 1-2 weeks for execution. I was okay with that (not in a hurry) but was glad when I received email that afternoon that my job was scheduled for the next day. (FYI... Not given a time window, just date) The work crew (8-10 guys?) showed up mid-afternoon and knocked everything out in an hour or so. (They are fast and good) Most of the crew then left as the job was done except for a few items as I walked with Daniel and a remaining crew member using his laser pen to indicate a few dead limbs they had missed. They were patient and accommodating as my laser guided for another 15 min of thoroughness. Upon completion, Daniel informed me I could pay then or they could bill me. I elected billing so I could do paper work inside later. I received the invoice the next morning via email which I easily paid immediately online via ACH with no additional charge. CC would have added another 3+%. I am 100% satisfied with this service so will certainly use them in the future. read more

After Snowvid 2021, my Arizona Ash tree (long past its prime) lost several of its top limbs, while lower foliage came back abundantly. I got 4 estimates from reputable tree services who were recommended to me. Two of the services called for immediate removal of the tree, citing fungus, rot, and decay - all without testing first. Neither rep was a certified arborist. However, Good Guys Tree Service's certified arborist Casey Hummell corrected their diagnosis by explaining the lichen on the tree was NOT fungus or rot, and the fact the sucker foliage was so abundant showed the tree is soaking up energy, which is a good sign. While the tree's days are numbered, the necessary, yet unaggressive trim work that crew chief Miguel did, under Casey's guidance, yielded a much safer, healthier tree that offers great shade and is aesthetically pleasing. The team was careful not to damage the garden under the tree, and they cleaned up the area perfectly. Also, Good Guys Tree Service's got to the job in less than 3 weeks, and the invoice was 50% LESS than the estimate by one of the non-arborist tree services that told me the tree was dead. I've used Good Guys previously at another home and was satisfied with the work. Decided to have them out at my new home to provide an estimate on some tree trimming. I requested an arborist since we have a large tree that had some damage and I wanted to make sure it was healthy. The cost was $200. Yikes. I was assured that I could ask as many questions as I wanted and the cost of the consultation would be applied to the work they did. Since I used them before I wasn't too concerned about using them after the estimate, so I paid the $200 for the consultation. On the day of the "consult" the arborist spent less than 5 minutes looking at the tree and made it clear he was ready to leave. $200 for 5 minutes of work, nice gig. I asked a few more questions and got enough from him that the scope of work shouldn't be too large. Small enough they'd just charge the "hourly" rate. He left and I waited for the estimate. The estimate didn't arrive that night. Or the next day. Or the next. Texting the arborist directly was useless as I was told he "sent it to the office" but when I called the office they didn't have anything. Eventually the estimate came back. $1450. Seriously? This job wasn't that big at all. I called in 3 other reputable tree trimming companies and the average estimate for all the work was $500. So much for recouping my $200 from the "consultation." Definitely feeling ripped off. I will not be using or recommending these guys in the future. read more

Good Guys and Davey Company were consistently showing up as the best rated on Angie's List and across multiple sites, so I called them both out for an estimate to remove 4 trees and raise the canopy on two others. Good Guys' quote was nearly three times less than that of Davey, so it was a no brainer to choose their service, even if it took more effort than I would have liked in coordinating to get the job started. They were nice enough to come out again though when I thought I might want to expand the scope of work by removing an additional 3 trees... but since that made the quote triple, they were nice when I declined and decided to just have the original lower quote's worth of work done. The morning they came out, they brought a crew of 7 guys (explaining that they were slow around the holidays so brought more people) and were done in less than 45 minutes. I didn't want to pay for stump grinding but the way they cut it to grade was really impressive, you can barely see anything was ever there. First, let me say, these guys do FANTASTIC work. They gave me a great price and did a lot of tree trimming and removed a tree for me. Communication, though, does need to be improved. After my quote, I emailed twice to find out when I was scheduled with no response. I got a phone call the day they were going to come out (several weeks later). Thankfully I was going to be home. A QA person came out to check the work which I LOVED! Every company should do this! He assured me the stump grinding would be scheduled far enough in advance that I could have the utilities marked and someone would call me to confirm. The utility people never showed up, so I called to make sure they were going to reschedule the marking. Still expecting a phone call from Good Guys about when I would be scheduled for the stump grinding. I woke up about a week later to find a guy in my backyard grinding the stump. I never got a call and if he knocked on the door, I never heard it. Then the guy proceeded to open the gate to my yard and just start working without any utilities being marked and without my consent. I spoke to the office, and "due to covid," there was no way anyone could have told me they were coming. Which, I completely understand the impact covid is having on small businesses. It has affected me severely. But a phone call/email/text message....ringing the actual doorbell....not too hard to do. I really want to recommend you guys because I value the work you do, but I'm not ok with having no notice that work is being done on my property. The person who scheduled me must had scheduled me on wrong time or date or forgot to scheduled me, since they never showed up. James Eichelberger provided us a very competitive bid (I got three), and was quick to arrange for the team to come out on an accelerated timeline as we had friends arriving from overseas later in the week.
