Good work, bad service. This is far and away the rudest company and crew I've ever dealt with. First the woman on the phone told me they'd be over next day between 2 and 3. I assumed she meant o'clock, but no, she meant between jobs 2 and 3 on her list. So I was surprised when my doorbell rang at 10:00. More surprised to find no one there. The guy hit the bell and walked away. I had to figure out for myself that the truck outside was from the Bad Guys tree service and not the city crew that has been working on water mains for months. I go into my back yard and here are five guys who breezed right past a sign saying Do Not Enter. The gate has another sign saying Keep Gate Closed; of course it was wide open. It was pure luck that my dog wasn't outside to be let loose onto my busy street. Tree guys wouldn't care. They did the work and the work is OK, but no one bothered to walk around with me to see if I liked it. They just disappeared, leaving the gates on both sides wide open. An hour later, the woman called to ask what the crew boss had said about his next job. He never spoke to me and why would he tell me that? I complained about the surprise, the unauthorized entry, and the open gates. She didn't even listen. She just harped on whatever it was she should've talked to her guy about. It's been a day and half and no one from that company has bothered to call me to find out why I am so angry. So I'll tell you. That outfit has no respect for my privacy, my convenience, or the safety of my pet. They don't even care if I'm happy with the work. There are lots of tree-trimmers in Austin. Truly good guys. I had a very large tree fall in my backyard during a large storm and these guys were amazing. I got a fast quote and was given, in my opinion, a super reasonable price but on top of that he offered to remove an extra dead tree in my front yard for free. When the crew came out, every single guy on my lot was friendly, respectful of both myself and my property and they are just plain good at what they do. By the time the crew left I think my yard was in better condition than it was before the storm. They cleaned all the debris, I mean ALL of it. From the yard, the decks, the walkway. Not just from my fallen tree but everything, period. I witnessed them take several extra steps to ensure the safety of my property with every cut. I just can't even say enough about these guys. I had three large trees that needed to be cut down that were growing very close to my house and my neighbors house, and I was very impressed with Good Guys from start to finish. They were very prompt in getting an estimate, scheduling, and following through with the service. Their quote was very reasonable, and they even threw in a few more minor trimming services for free. I was nervous about damage to my house or my neighbor's house, but they were very careful throughout the whole process. They also cleaned my back and front porch areas. Like, not just removed the debris, literally blew off all leaves, and cleaned off my roof and excess leaves in my gutters. They left things cleaner than when they arrived, even in areas where they weren't even working. They will definitely be my go to for all future tree needs! read more

We had Bob and his crew come out to remove a dead tree in our backyard. Its limbs were dangerously close to power lines and we had cleared as much as we could ourselves. The crew removed the tree and the limbs we had left behind. The crew was very efficient and did a thorough job. The price was competitive with other accredited tree services (including one we have used before for a complete overhaul of the front tree) as well as Craigslist ads for tree trimmers. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the services were not performed at the scheduled time. It's sometimes understandable with home services like this, but we arrange for someone to be here when we have work done. We will use Goods Guys Tree Service again. read more

I called these guys up after the storms about some broken trees that are higher up and unreachable for me with my saw without climbing way up top. Initially the call was great and the person that came out was very honest about the damage. He mentioned that because of the storms they were not accepting jobs less than $500. He also said what I had was less than that amount so they probably would not take the job. ??? He then said after talking to him a bit more that he would submit and see if they would take it and send me a proposal later. I got said proposal for $541 the only mentioned trimming the tops of the trees. So I replied just asking since they had the $500 minimum and knowing that the work I needed was less, if they could just trim the sides of 3 trees to get the overhang. Mainly just so I could feel like I got more than just 10min of work. I had no problem paying the $541 if they had just been willing to do the extra work. I got no response after emailing to find out. I understand there were a lot of opportunities to make money because of the damage in the area but it seems to me that these guys were more interested in taking advantage of the situation instead of earning a loyal customer. The work was done fast and efficient- and above all without incident!! We've found that communication is often a major problem when dealing with a contractor. We used Good Guys to treat a sickly Live Oak Tree last year. Leaves were yellowing, and they treated it with an injection to kill a fungus. The tree sustained the Texas Winter and had a number of short dead branches on it in the Spring, but the tree continued to shoot leaves and there were no more yellows leaves on or falling off the tree. I called them back to trim the whole back yard as well as look at the tree. Their Arborists are very knowledgeable, and recommended a trimming plan and another injection and fertilization for the tree. Today a 6 person crew arrived and planned and did a great job trimming 5 trees under the close supervision by Gloria, the crew supervisor and did a great job in about 90 minutes. The 90 minutes included a thorough clean up.This is the 4th time we have used them since moving to Texas 3 years ago, and all work was done well. read more

Yay used good guys, we had a pretty major snafu, or info error or whatever you'd like to call it. I made a phone call about a job half done. Without argument, or defense the gentleman on the phone told me he'd take care of it and find the details. 5min later he called back and let me know the problem, which was information about the job was taken down wrong. They went back the same day and finished the job. No problems. They did an excellent job with clean up, and had so much debris they needed to come back the next morning. Overall the work was good and the price was great. However, my original appointment time was arrival between 11 and 1. At 1:15 I had not heard anything and Had to call and the receptionist said she would look into it. At 2:15 i still had not heard anything. They finally showing up around 3:30, the job was too big their equipment, which I understand. They could not finish the job and would be in touch with me. A week later I had to call them. They called back the next day and said they would be there the next day on Friday . They finally showed up on Tuesday and did not notify me until they were in their way. I received a quote from them with no problem. Very professional and helpful. Getting them to actually do the work was the issue. We were going to be out of town for the next 8 days, so we scheduled the work for 10 days from when we got our quote. The day of the scheduled service, I wasn't contacted until after I contacted them to ask when they would be out. I was told they weren't working in the morning because of the storm the night before and concerns of storms flaring up this morning and that they would see if they could come out in the afternoon (weather reports had no storms in the forecast). The afternoon came and went and I had to contact them again in the early evening. When we talked, I was told that they would come out 5 days later - first thing in the morning (we even set an exact time). When this day came, we were contacted and told they would be there late in the afternoon. Well, that wouldn't work for us because we had rearranged our schedules and that of some other contractors coming to work in our yard. They offered a $50 discount if we could be flexible for that day, but the primary issue was that we wouldn't be home after 3pm. They also offered a different date TWO WEEKS AWAY (a month from our initial quote). At this point, we can't be sure they would show up, so we are searching for other companies. I have faith they would've done a nice job, but the lack of consideration for our schedules was very unprofessional and extremely disappointing - especially since we were referred to them by a neighbor who is an arborist (but whose company doesn't work in our area). It just seemed like our business wasn't important to them. I will say they were professional when we told them we were no longer interested in using them for the reasons stated above. read more

Crew of 7 came and cut down dead palms, each in a different part of yard requiring different techniques. Trimmed remaining palms. Easy to see these guys are professional...all displaying good attitudes and working the whole time, while maintaining safe operations. These guys did a great job. We have 20 (well, now 18) trees on our property. They trimmed, crowned, and back cut them perfectly. They cut the two stragglers and tore out the root systems. I have a live oak that lost 2/3's of its leaves the last week of December 2020. I did my due diligence and searched reviews for the best arborists/tree specialists in the Austin area. Thoughts going through my head were that it could be oak wilt, rotting roots, or one of several other live oak related diseases. I then start thinking of its impact on other neighbor's oaks along with costs to remove or treat a 21" diameter tree, expecting it to be in the thousands. Casey, a GoodGuys Tree Service arborist, was scheduled to come to the house and make a determination of the health of the tree. Typically when scheduling someone, they come within a 4 hour time frame. Casey not only called us 25 minutes before his arrival but to say he was on his way, he also was 5 minutes early for the appointment. When I stepped outside to meet Casey he was already looking up at the oak. Some of his first words were "your tree is perfectly healthy". He said when he entered the neighborhood he could see that the warmer weather, erratic at the time, had caused the oak to shed it leaves early, not the typical February/March. My wife and I were elated at his news. I asked him "how much do I owe you and he said "none". I was prepared for to pay $100's for his expert opinion and thousands to ether treat the tree or to eventually remove the tree. I could not believe what I was hearing. I then asked him, "how could so many reviews be so good for a company"? He said the owner only hired those that could demonstrate they worked hard and diligent and that he had worked for GoodGuys for the last 10 years because it was a great company.
