I've had tree work done around my home and several of my rental properties by at least half a dozen different tree companies. Up to this point it has been a very frustrating and disappointing part of property maintanence that I completely dreaded. I have had more bad experiences with tree companies than any one person should have to endure. My son recently had his trees at his house done by Good Guys Tree Service. He was very happy with the work and talked me into trying them. I called the office to make an appointment and was delighted to actually get to talk to a real person on the first call and not having to leave a message and hope someone calls me back. I spoke with Amber who was very curtious and asked me what would be a good time for someone to come out and meet with me. I couldn't believe it. In the past tree companies had either told a time that worked best for them or gave me 2 time options to choose from. Amber worked with me on the time that was best for me and informed me that the gentleman coming out to meet me would be Matt. Matt showed up on time and was very clean cut. A big plus for me. We walked around my yard looking at the trees and chatting about what I was wanting to accomplish in my yard. Another big plus for me. In the past I have had tree services tell me how they were going to cut my trees without any regard for what I was looking for. After walking my property and discussing what I was looking for, Matt made a few suggestions and pointed out a few concerns he had. It was a very pleasant meeting. Matt informed me that he was going to go out to his car and write up and estimate for me and that he would be right back. At this point I figured this is where things are going to change. He is going to give me some outragious price and try to hard close me. I was completely wrong. He came back with a very detailed work order with everything we discussed on it and the price was much less than I had paid in the past. I was in shock and very impressed. He really was a good guy! Amber called me to schedule work. When the crew showed up I met the crew leader Gavin. Gavin is a very polite nice young man. He had the detailed work order with him and told me everything they were going to do and even explained a few things to me. This young man knows a lot about trees. The entire crew was very polite and they promptly got to work. I could tell they knew what they were doing so I proceeded to get out of their way. I would look out the window occasionally and think to myself these guys are crazy climbing all the way up in my trees. These trees are 40-50 feet tall. The entire time they were at my house they hustled. It was very impressive. They completed everything Matt and I discussed and cleaned up immaculately. Good Guys Tree Service lives up to their name. I will never use another tree service on any of my properties. This is my first good experience with a tree company but I'm sure it won't be my last. read more

My 22 inch Live Oak Tree in my upper yard with limbs leaning over my garage needed removal. I contacted Good Guy Tree Service in June to see about the removal. The tree had moved the 6 foot retaining wall 2 inches, and I was afraid it would collapse. I got the information from Sean Hager and Rebecca Priest about the cost of removal as well as the city requirements for such a large tree removal. I told my kids about it, and they thought I might wait a while. The tree was so gorgeous. However, in January I found the retaining wall had moved 4 1/2 inches. I called Good Guys Tree service to let them know about the change. I then contacted Lakeway City Hall to apply for the $150 permit. I gave them much info about the reason for the removal, the size of the tree, and the numerous other trees in the yard. It took forever... so I called Good Guys and explained the problem. Sean Hager then told me that because the tree didn't measure 24 inches in diameter, I wouldn't need a permit. He then took charge, and called me the next day to let me know that I wouldn't need a permit. I should get my money back. He and the arborist submitted the tree diameter and other details... and the great news that a crew would be out the next day to remove the tree. Lakeway City Hall also told me that they would refund the $150 for the permit I'd applied for. What thrilling day that had become! Josh and his crew arrived at 10:00 and quickly removed the tree. They had taken care of the clean up so well except for the sawdust around the tree stump. Josh called a young man and explained what I wanted. It was done quickly. They needed to work quickly because my yard had been added to their schedule at the last minute because of the possible chaos if the work was delayed. They still had 9 more removals on their schedule. The tree stump was not removed, but Sean Hager said he would take care of it. Sean checked on other details, and asked if I had any problems. I let him know that I was in absolute heaven. I thought I would miss the tree, but everything looked soooo good. Good Guys Tree Service does outstanding work and intends to take care of every step and request. Actually I think Good Guys doesn't quite state case. Hello Greater Austin, I am writing this review a bit late and in reverse as my tree work was completed in September of 2020. While the work done was stellar, and I will get to that below. I want to begin by calling out one of the office staff, Lindsey (Linzi)? Who answered my call earlier "this" week following some light damage to one of my live oaks caused by the recent winter weather. I had dealt with the cutting/disposal of the branches, but I was unable to seal the cut to protect from oak wilt. My hope was to get a member from Good Guys out to seal the cut if in my area on another job (knowing this was a long shot given the work load on larger jobs due to the weather). While, a member of GG was unable to come out on short notice (which makes complete sense), Lindsay went above and beyond to try to find multiple solutions to my situation. This is exactly the high caliber of service one hopes for not only when having work done, but months following having a job completed. It is individuals like Lindsay, who are part of keeping business's front of mind in a positive way long after a job is complete. Thanks Lindsay. Now onto the work of the team. I received four estimates, and they were tied as my favorite overall. Price: They fell somewhere in the middle of the four from a price perspective. The man (Michael) who came out and did my estimate offered a coupon they typically have out. Once I had decided to go with them, I noticed in the fine print they match other estimates, which they did. Work: My crew head was Alejandro, and I was very impressive. They did not tear up the lawn, cleaned up, and did a professional job. I also like they showed up on the earlier side. The next day a gentleman came back to check on the work (ie. make sure everything was sealed etc.) Bonus points: They hauled away some branches "I" had to cut up earlier in the month free of charge. I was in need of having some tree removal work done quickly at the new property we just recently purchased. It was extremely important to me to have this work done soon and in a timely manner. Good guys tree service happily agree to meet with me on Sat to do a thorough walk through and give me an estimate. This helped so much due to weekday long work hours. Bob was very professional and friendly and respectful of my time. He explained as much detail as was needed about the work they would be doing but did not overwhelm me with more information than I wanted or needed. I appreciated his reading my personality and adjusting his sales pitch to me and estimate to just what I needed to know. I just used Good Guys for the second time, since I was so pleased the first time we used them last year for some work on our property. Jeff came out to give me an estimate and was very knowledgeable and courteous. He worked with us on budget, graciously coming back a second time to re-quote since we decided to scale down the scope of the job a bit. He helped us prioritize what was most needed at this time (and we'll definitely go back to Good Guys when we're ready to do more), and then on the day of the job he came out again personally to walk the crew through the job so they knew what we had discussed and agreed upon. I have to recognize Gavin from the crew for his exceptional service. He remembered our property from the first job and was so friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be back and so appreciative of the repeat business. He kept checking in to make sure I liked what they were doing. My husband and I decided that we wanted to take one particular large tree up a bit higher and Gavin happily obliged. He wanted to make sure we were pleased with the job. He did a few extra things here and there without charging us, too. Excellent experience! After some quick online research I called Good Guys. They came out the next day. The first action was to hand me a copy of their insurance. They are, as advertised, friendly and professional. As I requested, they gave me 2 quotes for different levels of work. I felt the quote was very fair. They scheduled the work for the next day. I was a little concerned at first as I couldn't be there at the scheduled time to "supervise" :) and I have 2 dogs. When I came home from work I was completely surprised. Good Guys had gone above and beyond the work requested and there was no trace of evidence that they had been there (except, of course, for the missing, huge section of tree that was previously about to fall into my power line to the house). The agreement was to simply down the section of tree (safely away from the power line) and leave it for me to cut up and remove. I expected to come home to a mess (as agreed). The entire section was downed, cut up, and neatly stacked where I had mentioned that I was going to stack it. All small limbs/leafs were raked out of the yard. All my straps and ropes (that I had used to tie off the tree) and tools were rolled up/collected and neatly placed. VERY happy new customer here. Feel free to use me as a reference. read more

We contacted Good Guys Tree Service to give us an estimate for trimming our oak trees. In a short amount of time, I was contacted by Mr. Boyd to set up an appointment for the following day. Mr. Boyd and I looked at all of our trees. He was very knowledgeable about tree health and what needed to be done to preserve the beauty of the oaks. A service crew was scheduled for later in the day. The team lead, Josh, walked the property with me to make sure that the scope of work was completed in a professional manner. All the crew members were very experienced and completed the trimming and cleanup in a timely manner. The yard looks great! My husband and I were so pleased that we contacted Mr. Boyd about Deep Root Fertilization for the oaks. Again, Mr. Boyd was able to explain the process in detail and answered all our questions. We scheduled an appointment for the following day. The serviceman, Matthew, was prompt and very knowledgeable about the process. He explained exactly how he was to complete the fertilization of the oaks. Once again, Good Guys did not disappoint. We will continue to use them for all our tree services and I have recommended them to several of my neighbors. read more

I highly recommend Good Guys Tree service. I had three large, intertwining, red oaks (~75 feet tall) that had to be taken down because they were in danger of falling on a neighbor's and my houses. Matt responded to my Internet posting telling me (after looking at the job) that I needed the approval of the City of Austin arborist to remove such large trees, and attached the proper form. After getting that approval, I had to write Matt a few times before I got a response and a bid. Although they were not the cheapest bidder, I didn't like the lack of insurance for a lower bidder, and I was convinced in conversation and from other YELP postings that Good Guys knew what they were doing. As they had told me, the job took three full days with several guys, including Matt and the owner Bob, hauling material from the backyard to their trailer in the street. The job was done to perfection, down to removing the stumps (big effort!) and not breaking our phone/tv/internet wire that ran right through these trees. For the amount of work, the cost was very reasonable. I'm sad to lose the trees but glad to have hired Good Guys to do the work. They lived up to their name! read more

These guys are amazing in every way! I first used them this spring to trim trees and I found them very professional and rates reasonable and negotiable. I planned on them coming back this fall to trim oak trees but hadn't called them yet. However, in the meantime our large Bradford pear tree split in half with one half in yard and the other half at a great risk of falling on house or injury in high winds. I called them first thing this morning and at first they said they couldn't get to me until tomorrow due to heavy schedule. So we compromised and they promised to come out at some point today to just cut down tree as to not be a threat, returning tomorrow to finish job. However, a short while later they called back and said they heard my concern, and had re-routed some jobs in the area and were sending a crew to take care of it all within one half hour. Gavin was very friendly, reassuring, professional, and accommodating when I asked about cutting up small tree limbs for fire pit wood. They even hauled it to my back yard, and neatly stacking it. His crew was great! We walked around and checked out oak trees for future trimming. They are great!! read more

I may be very lucky but when I called Good Guys to come out and look at some trees for me, the arborist was scheduled for the next afternoon and the tree removal service took place the next morning. I know others in my neighborhood had to wait a lot longer for any service from any company. As for the tree removal service, I was astonished with what took place on my property this morning. I had 2, 18-inch red oaks that needed to be removed and one of them was between two houses which I thought would be pretty difficult to remove. The crew arrived at 8:30 AM and by 10:30 AM they had taken the trees down, cleaned up all the branches and my yard and honestly if you didn't know, you would have sworn they didn't show up. Watching these professionals was truly amazing. They way they climbed the trees and cut the limbs and then the guys on the ground steered the limbs to where they wouldn't do any damage was amazing. Maybe all tree services are this good but I certainly recommend Good Guys tree service. They came out on time, quoted me a fair price showed up the next day and were in an out in 2 hours. This iIS as good as it gets. This business really cares about their customers and their customer's property. I had a tree that had gone over its expected life time and of the four main trunks, two were leaning in different directions and the other two were relatively vertical. I was concerned about the two leaners and them hitting the house and the street. Their estimator came out and said they couldn't get to it until Monday (this was on a Thursday). but he would check with the owner and see what could save the tree doing too much damage if decided to fall over the weekend. The owner came out and looked at it and said he would go back to the office and get some straps and tie the tree trunks together to keep them from falling (I said into the street because of the traffic) and he said no, so it doesn't fall into your house, the traffic can drive around it. That's the kind of people that they are, caring, efficient, reasonably priced (I was not charged for the extra trips out to my property). I have used them three times now and I wouldn't consider anyone else. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from this company. Jose was sent to diagnose the problems with our oak trees and initially stated that the issue was a fungus infection and chemical burn. He advised us to purchase a $600 treatment to prevent the trees from dying, which we agreed to. However, when Jose returned approximately a week later, he revised his diagnosis, stating that the problem was not a chemical burn, but rather a different disease. He admitted to not knowing what what was happening to our trees and described their condition as "very bad" indicating that the prognosis for the trees was poor. Jose departed, stating that he would conduct further research and contact us the same day. Unfortunately, we have not received a follow-up from him in seven days. As a result, we consulted with Austin Tree Experts, which we highly recommend. Their expert provided a thorough and knowledgeable assessment of our trees' condition. I would advise caution when dealing with this company and would advise to go anywhere else instead. read more

Good Guys Bob came out to give an estimate on a tree that was beginning to split from the inside. Estimate was fair enough for my neighbor and I to include another couple of trees needing limbs removed. Even though they had a very busy schedule we were told they'd make room for us as the splitting tree represented impending danger of falling on electrical lines. Raul and his crew showed up first thing in the next business morning, early and ready to work. The entire crew jumped into action. Everyone had a job and stayed busy. The trees were all taken care of, efficiently and quickly. To my surprise, after they'd finished cutting and hauling, everyone including Raul began cleaning the yards. At my request they cut limbs for firewood and left some kindling branches in my yard. The trees look great, I have firewood and there's no danger of electrical wires being ripped off the houses or causing fires. I definitely give these guys a thumbs up and will recommend Good Guys to anyone needing tree service. read more

After using the same tree service for over 20 years, I was reluctantly forced to select another tree service. I have now used Good Guys twice. I second what others have said regarding the super clean condition in which one's property is left. I second the prompt, professional service. I expected to wait for both the estimate and the service after the recent wind storm, but there was no wait. To add to that, during Jeff's first visit, he noticed the large cedar elm in the greenbelt adjacent to my property that was subtly tilting towards my house. He recommended I contact the city to get the hazard removed - which I did and they did. On the second visit after the windstorm, I needed a tree removed. Instead of up-selling the stump grinding he just said they'd cut it as low as they could. I was just hoping to get the lawnmower over it. It looks like they cut it 2" below grade; you can't beat that. So as much as I hate doing reviews, this is my "thank you". I definitely recommend them. read more

Excellent service, start to finish. Casey came out to give an estimate . He was very polite, super friendly, responsive to all my questions and very knowledgeable. We had 4 Oak trees trimmed. We were concerned that the branches further up in the tree, which were dead, would be removed, as well. Casey assured us that he'd communicate with the trimmers and even came out arriving before they did, to walk them through the job. Casey was so very helpful as were the men that trimmed. As other reviewers stated, everyone polite, professional and conscientious . They cleaned up the front and back yards beautifully. After further concern about one Oak, I called and asked if an arborist could recheck the tree to see if any disease existed. Casey was so attentive and agreeable. An arborist came out the following day and reassured us. We could not be more pleased with all the staff and entire process. The best tree trimming company we have ever done business with. Good Guys Tree service is the best service/price ratio you can find online. They are a Google recommended company in the Round Rock area with a professional team to handle any arborist related job. I hired Good Guys to remove a +10 ft. Hackberry tree from my backyard, and in under an hour they managed to cut and haul away the entire tree, minus the stump, with no hassle. The one downside that I would care to mention would be the service waiting time. I called to have a free estimate on the aforementioned tree, and later that day an Arborist came out to inspect and price out the service. The quote came the next day via email, and the actual day to have the tree remove came about 5-6 days later. If there's a lack of immediate danger and you can wait to have a team come out, then I highly recommend Good Guys. Now this isn't to say that they couldn't have come out sooner, I personally had no rush, so the 5-6 day wait time was well worth the discount I was quoted compared to other local services. read more
