I called on five companies for quotes to remove a dead post oak from my front yard. Good Guys were not most expensive nor the least expensive but a very reasonable price, especially if you score one of their coupons in one of the junk mail coupon flyers. I scheduled a couple weeks out for first thing on a specific Friday morning. They called the late afternoon before asking to change but I had to hold firm and they accommodated. That was a close call but they did the right thing by getting the crew out on the date/time agreed to. The crew of five showed up on time, were professional and did a fantastic job. The guy climbed up the tree and knew exactly what he was doing taking it down limb by limb, making sure to throw all limbs clear of my limestone edging. All guys did their jobs and were done in a little over an hour. This included stump grinding it a few inches below grade. They did a great job cleaning up all the debris from top of roof, gutters, patio, walkways, floor beds and lawn. The stump grinding left behind some good mulch. I'd use this company and crew again. read more

I got an estimate from The Good Guys Tree Service that was 50% lower than another estimate I received, so I hired them to cut and remove a big tree limb and trim other limbs. Their crew came on time and did a GREAT JOB in cutting the tree limb and the trimming. They are quick and also do a great cleanup of the yard. Awful--Casey came out for an estimate, great sales routine, nice appeared to care. Wrote the quote, I asked them to start--he responded he would have me scheduled. No one ever contacted me to start. I texted and emailed no fewer than 5 times, no response. Called their office, they were hardly apologetic--feigned apology for not getting back to me. Person on phone I talked to said, "Well, he's sales and they have a lot of paper work and (blah-blah-blah)". Said they would come out that week, we set an approximate time, and--no one showed up, no calls no text back. They know there is a communication problem. Read their responses- they are insincere. They pick and choose their jobs, which is great, but don't BS me into thinking they are going to honor their appointment. I own a small ranch with 30 acres--wanted to see if these guys would do a good job at my home before having them clean up the ranch--going with someone else that gave a better quote for my house and my ranch. I've used Good Guys in the past to prune my live oaks with great results so I called them again this year. They weren't quite as good this time, I'm afraid. No one showed up for the scheduled estimate appointment, so I had to call and re-schedule. The second appointment went well, and I received the estimate earlier than they said it would arrive. On the work day, they arrived early (7 am!) and were friendly and efficient. However, they broke a rain gauge and didn't mention it. They also left a couple of empty drink bottles and a number of tree trimmings that we picked up ourselves. What was concerning to me, though, was that they did not do a great jobs making the cuts on the trees which were trimmed. In several places that I could see at ground level, a trunk was gouged because they cut the branch too close or a longer stub was left. The cuts were not always made at the branch collar to allow the tree to heal correctly. However, my experience with other companies has been abysmal - such as completely removing the wrong tree! - so Good Guys gets 4 stars overall. Next time you break something, though, let the homeowner know, and apologize, guys! read more

I had a hackberry tree that had grown out of control on my fence line. Good Guys came out and removed it without any damage to the fence. (and that fence is about ready to come down from age, so that's impressive) The price was so good that I had them prune my three other trees. We received very poor service, not completing the original request, having to come out multiple times, asking for us to pay before the job was complete, seeming to forget previous conversations, not very good record keeping, and even threats to cut down 100 year old tree that is worth more than our house. Not very "good guys", and that any Arborist would threaten a tree is a not someone you should use to trim your trees. read more

Good Guys removed 6 trees, plus roof-trimmed 4 30-year old live oaks. 5 25-year old, tall trees were between houses, resting on fence, with very little room to maneuver. The amazing guy who cut them down was astonishing to watch. He removed all the branches without touching the fence, or either house, and did it all in 1 hour and 10 minutes! I was stunned. The guy doing the roof trimming was so quiet & efficient that I didn't even hear him and no limbs were dropped on the roof or dragged across it. They did a superb job! I had lots of work to do on my property, trees hanging onto my roof and over my driveway, view to the lake obstructed by saplings, dead trees, etc. They cleaned it all up in a matter of a few short hours. My experience with Good Guys Tree Service was wonderful. They arrived on time, worked very hard, did an outstanding job, and left my backyard in better shape than they found it. They removed three dead elm trunks and trimmed one large live oak, two small live oaks, and three large elms. They used sanitized equipment and nursed all wounds on the oaks. The trees look amazing. Their clean-up was beyond exceptional. The price was very reasonable and fair (especially considering the amount of work they did). I'm always wary of gushing reviews - but these guys carried many heavy trunks up a hill in my backyard and down a long steep driveway to their trailer. They worked very hard. I am writing this review so your company is made aware of the very unpleasant experience I had on the day (9 - 8 -15) a tree trimming service was rendered on my property. I'll try to make my review as short as I can as I would like you to verify my complaint with Gavin, the crew leader. Jordan and Jay were with him. It was not even 30 minutes of their work when, Jordan got involved in rendering a tree trimming service with my neighbor without making me and his crew leader aware of it . I saw Jordan on the roof top of my neighbor's two story house trimming the tree in front of the house. I asked Gavin what Jordan was doing there but Gavin was as surprised as I was, and didn't have a clue why Jordan was up the roof top of my neighbor's house. I knocked on my neighbors door and talked to Anita, the homeowner who told me that she just asked Jordan if he can trim some of the branches in their trees. And that was why Jordan was up on top of her house trimming the trees. I told her that I did not appreciate that kind of work intrusion she made to the tree workers and she responded to me very defensively. My neighbor and I had some harsh exchange of words with each other as a result of this incident. And we will probably never talk to each other ever,. Jordan explained to me that he was just trying to get my neighbor's business and that Gavin and Jay can do the work on my trees while he works my neighbor's trees on my time. Really ? He further claimed that this is the company's business concept. The job was professionally done and I commend them personally for a job well done. However, the otherwise overall excellent service was marred by your employee's lack of work ethics and unprofessional way of treating a customer. There was not the slightest demonstration of work ethics from both my neighbor and your employee. The incident probably did not mean anything to Jordan, but I felt somewhat disrespected as a customer. That's how I honestly felt about this whole incident. I cannot justify to myself to give your company a better rating and just cannot recommend your company to friends, neighbors and realtors alike. read more

A team of guys just took down a 30' dead ash tree in our yard. Absolutely amazing work! They were in and out is less than 40 minutes. The team cut some of the tree up for firewood, stacked it nearby, ground the stump down level, hauled all the debris away and rake everything clean. I had an overgrown hedge that became too difficult to maintain, so I called these guys to trim it down. I also asked them to trim the trees...I'm glad I called them. What I had planned to do, as I later found out, would have killed them. I can't recommended Good Guys enough. From the original visit to the final call to make sure I was 100% satisfied, I was impressed. I have had tree services before but this time I felt the price was fair and the whole company was working to make sure they did a great job and that I was totally satisfied. Matt came to discuss the scope of the job and sent an estimate later that day. I got a call the afternoon before the job was to be done. The crew arrived on time and just as I was leaving for an appointment. When I returned two hours later, the job was done. They trimmed four large trees and picked up every bit of debris. When the "clean-up man" came a couple of days later to check the job, I pointed out an area of dead limbs that that been killed by a neighbor's wisteria vine. He took care of that himself and trimmed the vine off the fence. I got still another call to check in and arrange payment. Everyone was professional and very friendly. This is a locally owned company and the customer service they delivered to me was OUTSTANDING! I discovered I needed a quick response for some Oak trimming to get under the deadline of 1/31. I discovered limbs banging on my roof. Good Guys got out the same day I called (1/30), gave me a quote and got me scheduled for trimming the next day, the 1/31 deadline. Then it got crazy. Their driver forgot his license so he couldn't get in my gated community. Their office called to see if they could reschedule. When I explained the deadline we had, he said they would scramble to get a different crew out. I left the house to grab lunch and my car died on me. While waiting for a wrecker the security gate called to tell me the Good Guys crew was at the gate. I asked to speak to the driver and explained my car problem and what I needed trimmed. He said no problem and went on with the job. The tree was trimmed perfectly for what was needed and everything was cleaned up when I finally got home. They did a great job and went ahead and preformed the work knowing they would not be anyone there to pay them. I called their office on Monday clear my bill. If I ever need tree work in the future this is the only company I will call. read more

Good Guys were great! I was impressed with their professionalism and promptness after a recent large storm here in Austin. I definitely feel safe now that our limbs are taken care of. That being said, the only thing I didn't particularly like was that now my tree sort of looks like a poodle with a bad haircut. I really enjoyed the shade of the tree, and most of the limbs are now gone, along with some of the privacy that I enjoyed. I understand that they were taking care of potential problems of the old tree, but it seemed very excessive. I also asked multiple times to save our tree limbs for firewood and was promised to keep the remains on the property, but instead came home to just the poodle tree and no firewood. We needed 5 trees trimmed and one removed. Timing was critical due to other projects we had in the works. We looked to Yelp to help find a Tree Service. We called two companies with 4.5-5 star Yelp ratings. Both companies responded quickly and sent someone out within a couple days of initial contact. Good Guys sent Caleb. Caleb was on time and efficient. He promised a quote by the end of the day. Quote was delivered as promised. He even took into consideration our time constraints and was able to get the work done within days of initial assessment. The other company was also efficient with regards to the initial visit and quote, but their bid was twice as much as Good Guys and they weren't going to be able to get us on their schedule for 2 weeks. Good Guys delivered what was promised. They were professional and skillful, especially with the large branch removal and trimming of a very tall Pecan Tree. Good Guys was excellent and I highly recommend them for any tree services you need. They initially sent out a certified arborist for an evaluation of the trees and consultation to ensure we were on the same page. This only took 20-30 minutes and he sent along a bid later in the day. Scheduling was easy and the crew that performed the job was excellent. They cleaned up all the cut branches and the quality of work was top notch. My only gripe, which is minimal, is that the crew showed up an hour before their scheduled time (7am instead of 8am). Luckily, I was already up and it wasn't a problem, but I would ensure the correct start time when scheduling in the future. read more
