They were hosting an event upstairs so it was closed for a while and the coatcheck was full, but it's nice that they have coatcheck at all! After having dinner at a nearby Italian restaurant, my husband and I were walking along Randolph St. to look for a venue for a cocktail party. I saw a disco ball in a building's second level space while we were waiting to cross the street. I said "let's check that place out", so we did. Once we walked in the first floor bar area, they had me at "get down on it, get down on it" by Kool & the Gang. The first floor has a small bar and a few seats, but the music from the second level can be heard in the whole building. We decided to check the second level. I felt like it was calling my name! The music and the 70s vibe of the dance floor got me all happy and excited. We ended up booking a table service for a cocktail party that we were planning. The table has a small area at the very end of the second floor and they charge a minimum of $4,000. The second floor opens at 8pm to the public, and the DJ starts playing at 9pm. We reserved our space starting at 8pm. This way, we could avoid the crowd that usually starts pouring in and filling up the second floor around 11pm. For bottle service, we got our own bartenders, the drinks were at a table in our own space and efficient security staff. We had a fantastic time during our cocktail party. The Lead VIP Host, Justin C., was a great communicator. He helped us with our choices and requests for the event. He was also very much active and present during the event itself. Everyone was efficient, friendly, and made sure that all our guests were being taken care of. The security team were diligent in keeping everyone safe as well. Terrible service. My friend got sick and they were rushing to kick her out before she could even compose herself or get napkins to clean herself up. They would not get her water or let her use the bathroom to clean up, even when she was perfectly fine after. They told us to use a bathroom at a different establishment and when we went, that establishment said no bathroom. We returned here and they said "they lied to you that's crazy." Absolute disgrace. Have some consideration for basic human needs and decency. Terrible, terrible people working security. And insanely expensive too. read more

But you will still have a great time on the disco floor upstairs listening to a range of the greatest hits mixed in the best way. You will also spend way too much money on some cool delicious cocktails. If you get a chance to check out the more tame and intimate downstairs lounge, the bartender is always friendly, and the decor is fun. The food items look great, but everything was cold on this visit- the disco fries, bbq pizza (Detroit style I think and kind of small), and burger meal would have otherwise been delicious! read more

I was a little disappointed on the drink. Lack flavor for an Old Fashion. My friend got a margarita which wasn't very good and they put it in a plastic deposable cup while mine was in a nice glass. I went to go throw my drink out and the lady security followed me. I feel like my every move is being watched and followed. It's hard to enjoy your time with security staring at you the whole time. There are two levels, but we only experienced the upper level. We hung out on a vintage-y sofa overlooking a disco dance floor, and then we bellied up to the bar to watch a stream of old classic TV commercials that you may have seen during the holidays when you were young. It was interesting to me that the disco tunes that were played were not the most common cuts - we only recognized a handful of songs during our visit. As a lover of all things vintage, I adored was all about Night John Boy. I have gotten into The Waltons due to it playing at work. I thought there would be more Waltons memorabilia, but we were upstairs, so maybe there is some on the first floor? The vintage vibe is in overdrive here, and we had a great time sipping a beer and taking in the vintage holiday ads on the multiple televisions. We were only planning to stop by for a bit after our dinner as we had a few other spots we wanted to hit up and ended up staying all night! Got there quite early so it was pretty empty dowstairs. Went upstairs and the DJ was spinning a mix of disco/pop/EDM so it's not a true disco bar if that's what you are expecting. Beginning of the night it was a bit of disco with some nu-disco/house, and then as the night went on, some modern pop and EDM were mixed it and It worked quite well and the crowd was very into it, including me! It definitely got packed and heard there was a line outside as people were trying to get upstairs to where the party was! Also just a warning, it is loud. Upstairs, your standard bar where people go to party so it was easier sticking to the simpler drinks. Not a fan of the tiny shots they had and gotta say, the price is quite high, but I guess it's the tax of the neighborhood we were in. There's also tables where you can get table service. Overall we had a ton of fun but just be prepared for your wallet to take a hit! read more

Security wouldn't kick out a guy who was taking weird pictures of girls, which included multiple of my friends. They apologized to my face about the incident and acknowledged the fact that this did in fact happened, however failed to do anything about the situation. Super unprofessional and made us very uncomfortable and we ended up leaving the establishment because of it. The man was still there when we left and management was aware. read more

I've been here twice; once at night in their more party vibe upstairs during their busy hours, and once during their off-peak hours for a drink with a friend at their downstairs bar. I had a good experience both times! I did prefer coming here during their off-peak hours and chilling at the bar. This place is super retro with 70s decor all over. It's a total vibe! I love how it looks like. The bartender, John, was incredible. He made the best espresso martinis my best friend and I have ever had. They came with a roasted marshmallow on top, too. John was personable, super easy to talk to, and was skilled at making cocktails to say the least. He was great! The drinks are a tad expensive; they range from $14-18 I believe. Our espresso martinis were $16 each and then we got white tea shots which were either $13 or $14 I can't remember. When I was here at their upstairs during their busy hours, there was a line to get upstairs and it definitely gets crowded (the establishment itself is not a huge place, but the upstairs is a larger area). The dance floor is fun but it was too packed so we were dancing and hanging out on the outskirts of the dance floor by the windows and bar. I recommend getting here a little earlier so you can just go straight up and avoid the lines. Also, girls were free but guys were charged a $20 cover. Side note: my friend lost her Apple Watch when we were here the first time at their upstairs bar. She ended up emailing them and they were pretty responsive and found the watch! They held it for her and we picked it up. Super nice of them! I would totally come again to chill at their bar for a drink. read more

My friends and I were dining in the West Loop, and after stopping at a different spot for a cocktail we decided to take a stroll. We were going to get margaritas at Cruz Blanca, but decided to walk a little bit on the other side of the block since it was a nice night. I am so glad we decided to continue our stroll or else we never would've found this unique spot! We walked past Good Night, John Boy where staff was handing out promo flyers about their opening. We were told it was a 70's themed bar & club then continued walking. I commented how I wish it was open so we could check it out, and my friend who had the flyer tells us it was currently open. We walked back, and we're transported right into a 70's home. Now most of the time themed bars are pretty cheesy, and corny. This was not the case for Good Night, John Boy. Every detail was well thought out from the brown linoleum floors to the ornate mirrored ceilings. The lounge seating and bar area seating looked like it could've came straight from your grandparent's basement, but in a more aesthetically pleasing way. Burt Reynolds infamous Cosmo cover photo adorns the wall along with photos of Elvis, and Farrah Fawcett. On the tvs they're playing snippets of Soul Train, and 70's sitcoms. The vibe is definitely 10/10. They have a bar food menu, which we did not try as well as a themed cocktail menu. I got a few of the espresso martinis, which I enjoyed immensely. My friends ordered a mojito, margarita, and what can only be described as purple drank. I sampled all 3, and they were also very good cocktails. For only being open a few days they had the cocktail program locked & loaded (unlike a new speakeasy that I previously reviewed). Service was excellent and everyone we spoke too just seemed like such a fun person. We were there on a weeknight, but on Fridays & Saturdays their upstairs level will turn into a 70's disco. The staff took us upstairs to peek into the disco room, and I will definitely be back to enjoy some dancing. This spot is definitely a cool addition to the West Loop neighborhood and Chicago in general as I don't think we have any 70's themed bars or clubs anywhere else. My friend and I were randomly walking down the street and saw lights flashing from upstairs. We were like is that a dancefloor up there? So we went to investigate and I'm so glad we did! Good night John boy is at 70s themed bar with cool bar downstairs where you can lounge then upstairs there is a lit up dancefloor with a huge disco ball from the ceiling. The waitress are in cute 70s gogo outfits. Instead of ice buckets for the VIP tables there are coolers instead. The place is so cute! Music was on point and we were all dancing having a great time. I got this disco ball drink I was able to keep the cup to take home. We would have stayed dancing all night long but we had another reservation to get to! So much fun. I hope a Philly location opens up soon since they are expanding! read more

Great time. Went to upstairs bar first. Arrived around 7 - before the crowd - and got seats at the bar. Also gave us a chance to appreciate the 70's decorations and monitors showing clips of shows and fun events. The DJ started at around 8 and played a wide variety of songs that encouraged everyone to dance on the disco light floor and beneath the large mirrored disco ball. Drinks were priced appropriately for the Fulton Market area. I believe Jimmy was our bartender and he was exceptionally friendly and outgoing. Espresso Martinis were exceptional - I think perhaps they had a shot of chocolate in them. As night went on, definitely got more crowded - but a nice group. We then went downstairs for a drink. Been wanting to come here since I knew the one in Cleveland! Decided to come here for my birthday! There was a long line, but only waited about 10 min. Girls are free. The cover for guys seems unnecessary. It's also very annoying how they would change the cover. Some of my guys friends were $20 while others were $40! You get to the first floor and vibes are great. It is a really cool space. Then there is a desk to check in to be put on the waitlist and you will get a text when you can go up. This will not last long. The bouncers were just letting whoever up, and we never ended up getting a text. Upstairs was very fun, huge disco ball and great music. It was SO HOT though. I'm not sure if there is AC? This place looked unique so I decided to try them for brunch. The prices looked pretty reasonable as well. I order their French toast with a side of sausage. It was so good! I love a Traditional French Toast where you can taste the cinnamon and it's was soaked enough to where it didn't taste like a slice of bread. The only thing that made me nervous to eat there is the the employees gave me an unsure vibe about the food. I think servers should learn the food and try it, it's the best way to know what you are offering to customers. I would go back and try a different brunch dish. read more

Good Night John Boy is cool in concept, but ultimately falls flat by being too crowded, overly expensive, and plagued by rude staff at the door. There's a $20 cover if you're a man but it's free if you are a woman. If you want to skip the line, you can pay $30 for that "feature." Once you get inside, you have to join a waitlist for the actual cool part of the bar upstairs. The downstairs is basically a waste of time where you just sit there and buy drinks because you have nothing else to do and you just paid $20 to get inside. I guess I'm maybe glad I went so I can say I did but I don't ever need to go back. If you're 22 years old and looking to spend your parents money, this is probably your vibe though. read more

My friends and I came here on July 13th. We know it's a popular place, so we expected to have to wait in a long line. That was fine. After a few minutes, it started POURING rain to the point where almost everyone got out of line. They either left or stood under the covered patio in front of the building. Security had basically stopped letting people in even though we could see many people leaving from inside. After about 15 minutes of standing outside, drenched in the rain and freezing, I went up to one of the security guards (the short one) and asked if people were still allowed in and if everyone standing under the patio would be able to "stay in line." He replied and said yes, both the actual line and everyone under the patio were still considered in line. This was great news because none of the staff had said anything to anyone. There were at least 25 people standing under this patio hoping to get in. After another 15 minutes, they still hadn't let a single person in from the patio. My friend went up and asked when we could get in. They told her they weren't letting anyone in who didn't have a table. We were all confused because why would they not tell us that? They could see 25 people freezing under the patio but decided not to mention that to us? I went up to the man standing at the front door wearing a red/purple suit. I asked him if I could speak to someone, and he clearly did not care to hear what I had to say. He lied to my face and told me he was only the "bathroom attendant." I spoke to him anyway because it was clear he was the one in charge outside. I told him it was extremely rude and unprofessional the way they were handling this. I made it clear we were leaving and were not trying to get in; I just wanted to share how horribly they handled the situation. I COMPLETELY understand that they cannot control the weather. But all they had to do was come over to the patio and inform everyone that if they didn't have a table, they would not be able to get in. They claimed they came over to the patio and told everyone that, but that was 10000% not true. Even the short security guard butted in when I told the red suit guy that the short one told us we were "in line," which was clearly not true. Both men got VERY aggressive and extremely angry very quickly. I said it would have been very nice and respectful to inform all the soaking wet, freezing people under the patio that we would not be let in, and then they started yelling at me, "then go home! Then leave!" like little kids. I don't think I've seen a grown man act like that in a LONG time. I have lived in Chicago for 5 years now, and this is by far the WORST hospitality/customer service/staff I have EVER encountered, which is very sad because I am from Cleveland and love their location there. I am still in absolute disbelief at how they handled the situation and how they reacted when I called them out for being rude. If we had known AGES ago we wouldn't be let in, we would have left 30 minutes prior. I am a very introverted person who never complains about staff even when the service is bad. So for me to go up to them, the situation had to be THAT bad. I do apologize for calling the security guard "the short one." I think he had a hard time hearing that and took it out on us. But I do hope the owner of this location sees this review because it really is a great place; you just need better staff who have at least SOME hospitality training. read more
