Charis Listening Bar opened last year in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. I think they just recently had their first year anniversary, and I hope they last for years to come because the drinks were delicious and I absolutely love the listening bar aspect! I definitely need to go back. The first thing I noticed when I sat down was the nostalgic, stained glass sign above their bar. Apparently it's inspired by Chicago city park signs and the brand colors represent Midwestern landscapes (so cool!). The themed menus were a nice touch, and I enjoyed listening to the records being played right in front of us. I ordered the Chicago Clover and it was perfect. A must-try spot! The vibe is immaculate and the concept is so well done. Live vinyl djs on Fridays and Saturdays make it feel special without trying too hard, and the music curation is chef's kiss The cocktail menu is super fun and clearly labeled (boozy, floral, velvety, spirit-free, etc.) so you know what you're getting. My friend got the Faye Geau, which was light, refreshing, and really balanced. Another friend tried the Brompton's Iced Tea with a Malört float which they said tasted very Chicago, very unique, and surprisingly good. I had the Figurado, a mezcal-forward drink that leaned Negroni-adjacent. Not sweet at all, subtle and well made, though I personally wished it had a bit more punch to really stand out. Still enjoyed it. Bonus points for the secret menu hidden in a cassette tape, such a fun detail! I'll absolutely be back. Great drinks, great music, great energy. read more

Small, dim, neighborhood bar. Service was friendly. I forget what day we went but the music selection was all over the place. One moment Motown was playing and then I remember hearing blue grass. That would be my only complaint, if there isn't a DJ decide on a playlist. This bar doesn't serve food. read more

Very cool new little cocktail lounge that just opened up in Bridgeport, literally just down the block from me. You can get cocktails at various places in Bridgeport, but this is the first dedicated lounge venue I've seen open in the neighborhood. It's a nice alternative to the bars and breweries. They have a wide selection of classic and custom cocktails to choose from. I've gotten the Train to Toronto, Willy Warnock, Palortma, and the House Punch over my 2 visits there, all very good, even the Palortma which features, as you can guess, malort. They also have a few beers if thats more your jam. The staff and bartenders are all nice and cool. I will say, there's not a whole lot of space, so best to get there early evening, that's only when I've gotten in. I've seen lines out the door on weekend nights. But still definitely worth checking out, I know I'll definitely be coming back much more in the future, to try and eventually make my way through all their house cocktails. read more

Had an excellent time at this new and trendy cocktail bar in the heart of Bridgeport. Not a lot of space, but an immense amount of authenticity. The cocktails were unique, delicious, and had a wonderful description with unique identifiers for each one. I had their old-fashioned and also a modern twist on a gin and tonic. Whether it's for happy hour or a late night cap, I would highly recommend it for all who are in the area. Also, the servers and bartenders were incredibly engaging and kind. read more

The Listening Room has such a cool concept I love the creativity behind the drinks and the recipes are honestly impressive. But the vibe from the owner and staff threw me off. I think they believed they were being friendly, but it came across as a bit arrogant and condescending. They mentioned living in Bridgeport for six years and acted like they really "get" the community but as someone who's been here over 25 years and worked in this business for 35, I'd say they've still got a lot to learn. The music could use a little bit more Soul but so could the whole place. . Too bad, because the place itself has a lot of potential. read more

Wonderful! Went on a Saturday night around 8. Able to get seated no problem. Drinks were great, ambiance was excellent, staff were friendly and kind, and music was good. Charis fits in well on Morgan Street and gives me Dorian vibes but in a smaller and more quaint way. There's nothing like this in Bridgeport and it's a welcome addition. What an absolutely lovely time we had at Charis. The service is exceptional, the cocktails are creative and delicious and the whole place is thoughtful and perfectly curated. We were told they were at capacity. Then, another employee walked past by us and told us the same thing, " we are at capacity." The guy was more focused on us waiting outside rather than offering us a drink while we wait inside by the bar. Unwelcoming vibe. Definitely won't be returning. And that's my capacity. read more
