This place started off pretty good. Dr. SKAINS is pretty amazing. But,... once we had our second and third visit with the other staff the service decreased drastically. Suddenly, there was no service on Wednesdays, then, they would take 2 weeks to respond to my concerns about my dogs spade. Now, I have yet to be contacted about my dogs allergies and its been a week and a half since I left a message. It's all very concerning. I would advise all dog owners to understand this location does not expedite your concerns. They message you at their convenience. I have decided today after a puppy concern that this location is not for me. They seem to be overwhelmed and understaffed. Look elsewhere. read more

If you call and ask about prices and visits. You think whomever answers the phone would say we need to schedule one since we never do same day visits. That's why we called, it's their job to give pertinent information like that. They don't care about you or your problems or animals. Update - the assistant out front of Good Shepard assured me that since they don't do walk ins or same day visits that no other vet in town would see me same day. I was seen same day by Valle Verde veterinarian hospital. Less than 2 hours after I called them too. Found a stray kitten near dumpster, she may have issues, I wanted her seen. Good Sherpard, said go away. Valle Verde cares. Big difference. Valle had a full office and still saw us and got us out in less than 30 minutes. Good Shepard was empty and refused. Maybe that's why they're empty. They aren't as good. read more

I was first recommended this place by a friend years ago. Now, this clinic is my primary. They are great. The doctor is awesome, she knows her stuff and will tell you what you need to hear to ensure your pets good health. However, only downside is this clinic is swamped. I believe they are understaffed (I don't know this for sure) but I do believe that's the case. Everyone seems in a rush and a little stressed out. Although, as long as an appointment is made you will be seen pretty quickly. I don't believe they accept walk-ins so be prepared for that. They are affordable as well and the dr again is truly great you can tell she's been in the business for a long time. I personally love her and love this place and I hope that they can get more people to help with the workload. read more

I was most impressed with the care of Dr Skains and her caring staff.. I have had goldens for over 30 years and am extremely particular with their care..the last 12 years I have been adopting.. one of the last goldens adopted had a molar problem..and was told by my primary vet that it most likely needed to be removed...when asked for estimate I almost fell thru the floor..the low and high range..with a quite suggestion was mentioned Dr Skain at Good Shepherd Animal Clinic...I call and was given a reasonable estimate...low to high..got Roxy right in..teeth cleaned and polished, full blood panel, had to have molar and another tooth removed, nails trimmed and meds provided all for just a bit more than the low range just for cleaning.. great staff and caring doctor..if it were not for the history of my current vet caring for my goldens I know where I would go the next time for our twice a year check ups..but my current vet has been with me thru thick and the putting to sleep 3 of my goldens in 10 plus years..such a caring vet and her staff was also very supportive... I am certain that the Good Shepherd offers the same quality service from my personal experience with the problem girl with the teeth extractions..regards...and do not think anyone could go wrong using this caring vet and staff.. read more

For whatever reason, I still do not know why, but I bought a miniature poodle from a group of shady looking people in the Smiths parking lot. I've always been a shelter dog kind of person but I guess I was hormonal or something that day. She looked like a teddy bear and only had one sock. I needed something to love. And love her I do, but man, this dog has turned out to one strange situation after another, thankfully Good Shepherd is there to fix her up every time. First things first, I had the dog fixed because I have great respect for Bob Barker. So imagine my surprise when my fixed dog suddenly goes into heat. Turns out she had an extra ovary. These things happen when your parents are brother and sister, I guess. Good Shepherd took care of that. She also had some seriously scary dew claws. Dew claws are scary enough as they are, but imagine how scary they can be when there are three distinct nails coming out of each dew claw. Heebie jeebies. Another sign that the dog's parents are closely related. No worries, Good Shepherd removed those devil dew claws. Considering my dog's genetic makeup, would you be surprised if I told you she was kinda dim? Or maybe a lot dim? One time she ate an entire package of sugar free gum. This is BAD NEWS for dogs because one of the sweeteners used in the gum reacts really badly in their system and forces the dog to go into insulin shock. THANK GOD Good Shepherd was there and took in my dog immediately, pumped her stomach and kept her overnight for observation. More recently, dimmy mcdimmerson decided to try and jump an chain link fence -- resulting in a huge gash under her leg. Guess who stitched her up? So, yeah she is a dog, and a rather stupid one at that, but at least with Good Shepherd she has the nine lives of a cat. read more

My 7 year old dog had gotten I'll and i took him into Good Shepard. He had grew an abses on his neck. They examined him and gave him medication. That visit was very fair priced. (Allthough we would pay anything for our pets). During the weekend his abses popped. I took him back and they did surgery. The vet didn't know what had caused his abses so while she was cleaning it out she decided to do more investagating, she had found a fox tail lodged way back behind his ear. Had she not been so thorough he would have passed. Another fair priced visit. He was given more medication and "the cone of shame". For three weeks he wore the cone and took medicine. Over those three weeks we were visiting two times a week to watch the healingy each visit had no charge. My dog healed nicely. He's bouncy, happy and healthy again. The vet and staff were always friendly and efficient. The waiting room and examination rooms were clean. They offer food and other edibles, T-shirts, key chains and other misc items. Super caring folks work here. This is quite a busy clinic, but they have the most awesome staff. Whether you need routing vet care for your pet (including exotics), or it's something more serious- they are more than capable of taking care of you. Hours are awesome- 9-6 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and open 8-12 on Wednesday. The prices are more affordable than most vets around town, and they will help you find a way to get help if you cant afford the care needed. read more

I am traveling around the country with my Standard Poodle, Max, and he developed a limp when we were in Flagstaff, Arizona. I took him to a vet there who diagnosed a sprain, based on his symptoms, and gave us medication for inflammation and pain. Two days later, in Albuquerque, his foot was badly swollen and bleeding a little. I went to Good Shepherd and they took us in immediately. They have separate waiting areas for dogs and for cats, birds and exotics. The dog waiting area is divided so you can keep your dog settled around any others that are waiting. A nice, thoughtful touch. Dr. Bingham was fantastic! She was kind and gentle with Max, who was in pain, quickly diagnosing that he had a foreign object in his paw - probably some spiny desert thing. She took him out to the back to drain the infection and flush the wound, returning him, tail wagging (always a good sign) with a well-bandaged paw. She explained carefully what she thought was going on, gave me advice on what to do next, and answered all my questions. We left with a 10-day supply of antibiotics, and a happy pup! The staff, the cleanliness and cheeriness of the facility, as well as Dr. Bingham, were all excellent! I would HIGHLY recommend this clinic. read more

It's about 50/50 whether you'll get the kind, attentive Dr. Bingham or the impatient, irritated Dr. Bingham. We're due for the nice one next time. Not the best vet out there, but not the worst. When our senior cat passes and its time to get a new one, we'll also be finding a new vet. read more

2 minutes agoNEW We will never come back to Good Shepard. After years and years and years (6 family pets) after referring all family and friends - we've now decided to not do any further business with Good Shepard. Ever again. We are taking our four pets elsewhere for proper veterinarian care after multiple negative experiences, shockingly poor customer service and no follow through. We attempted to resolve our issues; we were actually very patient, left several calls and politely expressed concerns. At first got a few call backs 1805, 1820, 1835. I then called and stated we needed a call back prior to 6pm in the evening, please, due to school and other obligations. Never ever heard back from them even though our pet was in horrible condition. They couldn't bother to remediate the situation but they can still send text notifications about our other animals needing shots. Seems they didn't realize all four of our pets are in the same household, never seemed to realize we'd been going there more than a decade. Never seemed to care about the health and well-being of our pet, or the outcome of the situation but they can still chase that money and blow us up with automated messages. These people really have no clue what they're doing. They misdiagnosed my cat and now he's dead. He had a long history of UTIs, which were treated at Good Shepard. A few weeks ago, he was having problems urinating, so I took him in expecting it to be another urinary problem. He had a lot of fluid in his belly. The first vet I spoke to tried to tell me it was fat. I told her it very definitely was not, as it just developed over the past week. She proceeded to argue with me and basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about. I left him with them to run some tests. Their diagnosis was irritable bowel syndrome which lead to leaky gut syndrome. They changed his food and had me give him sub epidermal fluids for dehydration. I took him back the following week and he had not improved. They told me to keep feeding him the new food and bring him back the following week, so I did. When I took him back in, he was worse. They wanted to insert a feeding tube into his stomach, which was something I didn't want to do. They said the alternative was to keep feeding him the new food and see if he improves. He got worse to the point he could barely walk. I took him to VCA Animal Hospital to get a second opinion. I had googled Good Shepard's diagnosis and the symptoms were completely different. When I took him to VCA, they said he had kidney disease. By the time I took him in, his kidneys had failed and he had to be euthanized. If Good Shepard had properly diagnosed him, he could have been treated and would still be alive today. If you love your pet, I would take him or her somewhere else. EDIT: By the way, this isn't the only one star review they've received. The majority of their reviews are one star for similar reasons. If you scroll down to the bottom of the reviews, you'll find more bad reviews that were somehow hidden from view. read more

Just spent $600 to take my cat here and got precisely ZERO answers from the extremely flaky and vague doctor. She basically charged us $600 to give us a referral to an outrageously-priced specialist 45 minutes outside of town. After doing her examination and telling us it was a neurological issue, she should've charged us her examination fee and left it at that, with a referral at that point - instead she tacked on hundreds of dollars of extra tests and labs that aren't of any consequence and yielded nothing. She gave us no general prognosis, no information, and no recommendations other than to go to a specialist that would charge $500 just to walk through the door, and then thousands more for tests. I feel like a veterinary doctor should have enough general, overall knowledge of the animals she works with to at least give us some basic information, especially after multiple x-rays and an examination. To top it off, there was a family waiting in the lobby when we walked in to pick up our pet who got the SAME spiel - "Well, I'm just a general doctor, and I can do every day stuff, but I'm going to have to refer you to a specialist" - probably charged them more than half a grand, too. Just disgusted. Never coming back and telling anyone who asks for recommendations to STEER CLEAR. read more

I had an appointment for my 13 year old cat's yearly exam and vaccination. I had noticed over the past year, she was losing weight but an increased appetite, drinking a lot more water than normal and urinating more than usual too. The veterinarian suggested getting some urine and possibly blood samples to see what's wrong. She then took her to the back to get those samples. When they were done, they gave my cat back to me in her carrier. Immediately, I noticed tufts of her fur sticking up around the back of her neck, as if that's where they grabbed her the hardest. Then, she began panting from the pain and distress they inflicted on her. That entire (tormenting) process cost me $374.00 when I was quoted $341.00 Three days later, I had to call them for the results. The veterinarian finally got back to me to let me know that it's diabetes and that we need to start an "insulin program." This would involve getting syringes, insulin, being shown by the nurse how to do it (2x a day), then bringing in my geriatric cat every week for at least 2 or 3 months to do a glucose test (aka more tormenting her in the back where I'm not allowed to see). At her age and because of how rough they were with her, I'm more concerned about her passing from severe distress and shock. Besides the cost being astronomical and besides them not bothering to tell me what kind of food to get her, they didn't seem to care about my limited (SSDI) budget, except to suggest the local animal humane society. I had horrible veterinarian clinic experiences with them too, even to a point of going to their Board of Directors. Twice. Well!! When I tried to share that with the veterinarian at Good Shephard, she became very defensive with me about that. I should probably also include how rough they were to my 11 year old male cat in Jan 2017 when it was time for his vaccination and exam. He's a big softie who loves to be petted, held and is so patient. But when they grabbed him, not gently, he started to hiss at them. I would not recommend this clinic. read more

The owner " dr" julia skanes, is as rude, and brief of a professional as I have ever met. She was rude, bitchy and short with me as I expressed my concerns for my female Boston Terrier's well-being. I suggested she may have whats called " cushing's disease" and she essentially pooh-poohed me , told me i didnt know what I was talking about, and again, was rude about it. I insisted that they run a test for this disease on her , and sure enough, I was right. I received no apologies what-so-ever, and in alittle over 24 hours my dog was dead. Her mis-diagnosis, in my mind, essentially killed my poor little girl, or at least aided in her demise.......... Avoid this place like the plague.......... read more

After a very lengthy wait, the Vet appeared, listened to us briefly explain we suspected our tiny dog had swallowed a stone or something and is was stuck in her intestines. She said an X-ray would confirm and would we mind? We agreed of course. She looked at the $200 (or so) X-ray and told us she was 100% sure that our dog had only back problems, treated with steroid shot and prednisone. She also offered chiropractic services. The next day our dog was nearly dead. We took her to emergency surgery at VCA. They were able to save her but it costs over $7000. We requested Good Shepherd return our $266.80 for their unnecessary treatment and diagnosis. They refused. read more

A couple weeks after having my bird's nailed clipped at this clinic, my bird's feet developed gangrene. To add insult to injury, the vet denied the visit even occurred and because we no longer had the receipt, we could not dispute her claim. read more

I've been taking my dogs to GSAC for a long time and they've always treated my dogs as if they were their own! I have always been able to call them and/or take my dogs to their clinic with little or no notice. I will forever be grateful for their support and kindness when I found out that my 13 year old dog, Dabos, was diagnosed with bone cancer. Dr. Skains, Dr. Bingham, Cindy and the entire staff were so amazing and helped me through everything when I had to make decisions for Dabos. More recently, Dr. Bingham helped me with my other two dogs when they were sick. I appreciate the knowledge, experience, and kindness that the entire GSAC team gives each and every time my babies need them!! I just moved out of NM and I will never be able to find a clinic with such a great team like GSAC! Thank you guys so much!!! read more

This practice is rude and inconsiderate of animal owners. They seem to want to run expensive tests that may be unnecessary. When I explained I didn't have money for that treatment was pretty much at a standstill. My dogs are part of my family and being told "I had to "didn't set well. Linda Bingham is not a "professional "I will ever deal with again. She was rude and arrogant. I found a wonderful. New clinic that is AMAZING!! don't waste your money here. I took my beloved, healthy Hijito Mio, a 10 year old cat to the vet ...to be seen for constipation. It was about 4:00 PM. They told me they needed to give him an enema. A little before 5:00 PM (quitting time), they said he had not had a BM and I should take him home and watch him. They were in a real hurry to get us out of there. They were more concerned about me bringing their pet carrier back than they were about Hijito Mio. When we got home, I let my Hijito Mio walk from the car to the house (he was anxious to get home) and noticed that he apparently had a lot of fluid in his body cavity as his belly was swinging back and forth. He went into the house and laid on his belly behind a heavy desk. At 12 midnight he was still there in the same position but seemed to be alert. I went to bed. I woke up at 4:00 AM and went to check on him....he was DEAD !!!..stiff !!...He had tried to get to our bedroom....he was halfway there, when he died. How could an enema kill a healthy, strong vital cat?...... IF THEY PERFERATED HIS COLON!!!...AND THE FLUID EMPTYED INTO HIS BODY CAVITY...THAT WOULD EXPLAIN HIS BELLY SWINGING BACK AND FORTH WHEN I BROUGH HIM HOME.!!!!....AND THE FACT THAT HE NEVER HAD A BM !!!!!!! ..the enema fluid never was in his intestine! THEY KILLED MY BELOVED HIJITO MIO !!!!...through carelessness, and thoughtlessness!... I am sure the vet passed the responsibility of inserting the enema to a careless, thought less, BRAINLESS employee, who did not care and the result was DEATH FOR A BELOVED PET..!!!
