Bri was always our vet , Now I have golden doodle and Holly takes wonderful care of her because she was at a different clinic and treated her broken leg when she was a puppy. There's no evidence that She ever had a broken limb. I'm so happy that she moved to manzano. Bri takes loving care of my old orange cat as she's been doing for all our "kids" over the years. Good: good care of animals in treatment options. No problem with that part with their function of the business actually is except for taking care of the customers that bring in there animals as noted below... Bad: they almost never answer the phone and you get this horribly long slow talking voice that you have to wait through 59 seconds before you can leave a message. But the really annoying thing is you can call back every 5 minutes and they'll never answer the phone. That's not a good business model if you ask me. The clinic is not cheap but it's hardly expensive.** I've been to a number of different clinics in ABQ over 10 years (I rescue senior black cats), and I think that this clinic the best one I've been to. I have no plans of ever going any other clinic. **If I remember, her badly needed teeth cleaning and one extraction came out around $800. I thought that was terrible. But some good research of animal clinics in ABQ showed me that $800 for teeth cleaning was hardly outrageous. $800 was pretty much the norm. I'm glad I purchased a year-long plan (which does not include medicines -- just a heads up). The only real problem is that veterinary care is SO expensive. My dog and I were taken care of immediately even though the day was full at the clinic. My dog got the most beautiful suture job above her eye. Everything they did for us put me at ease. My cat needed her teeth cleaned. It turned out there were two extractions which would have been very expensive had I not signed up for the annual plan which included the cleaning, the extractions, and an annual visit, among other things for $95/month. I am a nervous pet parent and at intake the tech, a young man, was absolutely wonderful explaining things. I received a phone message detailing her care, the extractions, and that she was ready for pickup. When I picked her up, the same tech explained that she needed extra love coming out of anesthetic. She's a rescue so I didn't know how she would react to other people. I was very glad to hear that she was so well treated. Thank you Manzano, I felt so safe and comforted that you took. Charged me $70 for anal glands and returned my dog smelling terrible. For that much you think they'd at least put baby powder on her behind. They also didn't fulfill medication requests on time which required me to buy double and spend double. They're nice I guess? but, wow, are the prices high and the service mediocre. read more

I'll spare ya the read with this Cliff's Notes edit at the top. Go. Make the appointment. If you're still around and bored enough to read, here's my 2 cents. Okay, vets are a special breed and highly sought after. And, it doesn't seem that too many of them are worth the price of paper their degree is printed on. I've been (*fortunate?*) enough to have seen quite a few recently. And let's get something straight, most of the reviews on Yelp are highly exaggerated in both directions, or maybe it's perhaps people don't really grasp the full scope of the star rating system. And this whole epidemic thing... trying to schedule a vet WAY ahead of time, like using your psychic powers to determine when your dog is going to be hurt, or just waiting for an opening, praying they're any good because you must wait so long for an appointment while your pup is hurting.... man, what a mind game this is on your stress levels. Well, I'm here to tell ya, I've written enough reviews and have recent comparisons on vets by now to judge fairly enough. Most of this review will be on Dr. Holly Erickson DVM. Because I can't believe how... Wonderful, patient, and kind she is. She doesn't come across as "knowing everything" or willing to just prescribe "this" or "that". Dollars seem very secondary here. You have comfort in feeling like she knows what in the hell she's talking about, and she lets you know when it can only be a best guess. And guess what else? She listens! Well. "Wait, what???!" Yea. I know! All the other staff I encountered were absolutely wonderful. From the nurse to the front counter, all of them were absolutely wonderful. We felt zero pressure to do anything. We felt zero pressure to buy anything. And guess what? It's freaking affordable! "Wait, what the F did you just say?!" Yea, it's actually affordable. The place is clean. Everyone is wearing masks and use what seems to be the practical and logical precautions during this whole pandemic thing, whatever your freaking political stance on the virus may be. (:~/ I can't believe I had to drive all the way from Los Angeles (after seeing 4 vets on the same issue... yes, 4) to get one vet that is worth recommending to anyone you actually care about. This is the type of vet clinic you would see in an ABC's "After School Special" or Hallmark Channel movie about the hopeless romantic who can't find "the one". Anyway, it's getting too long. My dog Bugsby had a thorough exam, got x-rays on the fly because we both agreed on it, and then Dr. Erickson stuck around long enough to talk to me about anything relevant. Then she gave me recommendations and sent me on my merry way with an affordable bill. Yes, he got a little scared from time to time, but he was easily calmed down gently. Yes, any vet is still more expensive than, let's say a short trip to Trader Joe's. But it is health care after all. And they are worth it. Probably a little early to review...since we should come here a few times before we can get a better idea but, we've followed our favorite vet over here from another location. We've been working with him for the past 9 years and so of course, we're going to be bias of course. I won't name him, only to protect his privacy and personal choice to relocate to this office. The visit however was warm/friendly and the staff were polite and professional. We're just glad to have sincere care for our little guy...if you look at my photos...we're down to just one Whippet now. We unfortunately lost our Brindle Whippet...Willie. I do want to say that the staff was helpful and flexible during this pandemic. i appreciate the car waiting and phone call measures they took to keep themselves and their clients safe. i am not knocking that at all. the issue is that i brought my dog here *twice* bc of problems he was having. the responses both times were along the lines of wait and see if it gets better (you would think that during the second visit when things were worse, it would be apparent that things were not getting better). well things got even worse for my pet and i decided to take him to another vet. the second vet was surprised that no course of action had already been taken bc it was *obvious* that there was inflammation in my pet's ears, paws, anal glands, so forth. i was given medication for my pet straight away and i am hoping he will find relief soon. The inaction of the vet here is incredibly disheartening. i do not want to assume this establishment is just here for the money but it's hard to feel my pet was cared for when nothing to help him was actually done. read more

Manzano vets took good care of our dogs when we lived in Albuquerque for over six years. Especially impressed at how gentle the doctor was when our newest adoption had a painful infection. The vet suggested ways to lessen his pain and heal him more quickly, and our pet got well as fast as we hoped. Their payment plan is helpful, allowing us to pay year round so we can afford dental treatment and well care at all times. Recommend to anybody who loves their pets. read more

Manzano Animal Clinic - Our dog happy after getting well thanks to Manzano - Veterinarians Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

I have had two incidents at Manzano that disappointed me and caused my animals to suffer. Firstly my cat's tongue appeared to be being pulled to one side. I took her to the vet - the only appointment I could get was with a stand in vet. I told her my concerns, she said my cat needed dental care. I was then told if I put my cat on the Paws insurance plan it would save me money. So I took out the monthly plan @ about $70+ dollars a month. I waited a month to get my cat in for the dental. After they had extracted teeth they told me my cat had cancer of the tongue and her life expectancy would be 42 days. Why on earth add to her suffering by extracting teeth? Her mouth bled every day from the extractions until her death. I was then told "they would try and fit me in" when it came time to euthanise. I chose a different vet to euthanise my cat, at home. I then notified Manzano that my cat was dead. The same day they sent me an email asking for the remainder of the annual insurance premiums. I had already written a check for the remaining amount as I knew once they had me signed up for the Paws Plan I was legally bound. But to miss the cancer of her tongue, then extract teeth knowing she was terminally sick, then demand money the day she died seems all about the $$$ to me. Around the same time I took my dog in because of a growth on her leg. The vet treated me like I was a fuss pot and said it would go away on it's own. I mentioned that she seemed to be in pain around her head or chest but that I couldn't narrow it down. They took my dog off to a back room and returned saying they couldn't find my dog to have pain anywhere. I was also told her teeth were good. I took my dog to another vet who removed the growth which had now grown to over and inch across and was cause of concern to my new vet. I am currently waiting for biopsy results. The new vet also showed me dental xrays of two upper teeth that were obviously the cause of my dogs pain and since their removal she is back to her old self. Why was all this missed? read more

We see Dr. Hoshen and she is able to answer my questions and goes above and beyond to help my kitty with autoimmune issues get the right treatment. My other babies are also treated with respect and friendliness. This neurotic pet mom needs a lot of reassurance and I get it. Wonderful clinic!! Professional every step of the way. 1st visit. Short wait. Friendly employee helped get my wiggly puppy weighed & for us into a room. She was very friendly & communicative. A few minutes passed & Dr Hoshen entered introducing herself with a smile & a handshake. Great eye contact & began to discuss my puppy with me, she took her time & was thorough. She took the time to explain genetics for the possibility of breeding if we should decide. Even though we probably won't, she gave me good advice on what to look out for. My pup was given a vaccine booster & we discussed a plan for flea & heartworm meds (since my puppy's weight is shifting so fast right now). After a complete exam, including palpating his entire body & checking his eyes, ears & heart...we had a great discussion about his breed & his particular temperament & traits. We have been going to the Manzano Animal Clinic for just over two years now. My family has had two cats and a dog who have seen the staff there on a regular basis. My vet is Dr. Sandra Whaley and she is the best vet I've had in 20+ years of going to vets. The staff are always friendly and greet you immediately when you enter. The waiting is large enough that dogs and cats don't have to be near one another if they don't want to be. The exam rooms are clean and well equipped. We've been in many times and have only had to wait more than ten minutes once when another animal was brought in who was in a life threatening situation. Dr. Whaley is an amazing combination of practitioner and research scientist. If she doesn't know the answer (which is rare) she uses her research skills and network of other doctors to find them. We always feel that we get not only the best answers, but answers based on the most recent research work being done. We've had more than one animal go through final illnesses. Manzano, and Dr Whaley in particular, are always sympathetic while remaining honest about options and what is best for the animal. She explains things carefully and makes sure you understand what is happening now, what needs to happen next, and what the possible future outcomes might be. Prices are always fair and we have never felt that any procedure or test was done unnecessarily. Communication is excellent with Dr Whaley (or other staff) calling to check in with us and with updates from her end. When it has come to say good-bye to some of our beloved pets they are generous with their condolences as well as their charges. Honestly, it doesn't get any better than this. read more

We took our Chihuahua to Manzano Animal Clinic since we adopted him nearly 10 years ago. He's always received good care. All the vets there are very good, and Maus must have seen them all over his years. I have confidence in all of them as healthcare providers. He seemed to take a liking to Dr. Hurst. It was very unusual for Maus to take a liking to anyone who wasn't family. After he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, Dr. Hurst became his sole provider of his care. She was very patient and caring. If we ever get another dog, he'll be a patient at Manzano Animal Clinic. read more

I've coming here since I move to ABQ. The staff is helpful and friendly. My 2 cats see Dr. Brianna, and since they both have heart conditions they also get ultrasounds from Dr Whaley. Both doc are very good and get to know the animals they work on. I have 1 scared cat and the other is vocal but a push over. They are able to accommodate both their personalities very well. Quality care and affordable. I moved to ABQ last year and was looking for a vet for my 7 year old pitbull mix. My dog suffers from a few health issues, so I didn't want to go to one of those posh vets where they treat you and your pet like royalty but also want $500 every time you see them. I also didn't want to go to a vet that takes two weeks to get in. After doing some research and asking around, I gave Manzano a chance because their reviews were overall very good and multiple reviews mentioned how reasonable their costs were. I have now visited Manzano with my dog multiple times and I am very happy with their quality of care and their reasonable pricing. I have not had to do any major procedures, so I can't speak to that -- but the cost of regular visits, lab testing, and prescription medicine has been very fair. I was extremely pleased when, during my first visit, the veterinarian offered to write my dog's prescriptions so I could get his regular pills online or at Costco at a better cost than buying directly from them. My previous vet in another state made it very difficult to get pills from anyone other than the vet pharmacy, so being able to shop around was a welcome change. However, I recently ran out of the medication and called Manzano to see if I could get a few pills while waiting on an online order. They were happy to give me a small amount of medicine to tide me over, but when I got there I realized the price of pills from Manzano was actually lower than what I had been buying online! In addition to good pricing, I have felt that their services were right in line with what I want. Good, quality care without going overboard. For instance, I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars at other vets and veterinarian dermatology specialists over the years on allergy test and treatments for my dog. We did find a few things that worked, but they had been very expensive. When I told Manzano about our experience with allergies, they recommended a topical solution to try that cost about $30. I am shocked how well the topical solution has worked, and that the $30 bottle has lasted me over six months at this point. We were able to take my dog off his custom-made allergy shots and reduce his allergy medicine thanks to the topical solution they recommended. Although I have only used their services a handful of times, I have found them to be competent, available when I need them, and quick to take care of any needs that have come up. I have visited more than one vet, as they are happy to work me in when I call rather than making me wait on an appointment. Each of the veterinarians I've seen have been professional and taken care of the needs I brought up. I have rated them four stars instead of five simply because I had a few problems with one of the guys who worked at the front desk and answered phones -- he didn't really seem like the type of person you wanted at the front desk or working the phones-- kind of argumentative and not very friendly. Another time when I came in, one of the ladies working up front was pretty unprofessional arguing with an upset customer. I will say that in that case I felt as if the customer was also out of line because they were upset, but I feel as if Manzano has room for overall improvement in the "warmth and friendliness" department before they deserve a full five stars. However, I fully recommend them and will continue taking my dog there! if you're looking for good, quality care at reasonable prices and don't need to feel like best friends with your vet staff, this may be a good place to try. read more

We've been trusting our dogs to the care of Manzano vets for nearly 20 years. They have helped us with routine care and emergencies, and one of the staff even cried with us when we had to send our last doggie over the rainbow bridge. They are busy because they are that good, and have done their best to accommodate and deal with more serious issues when they come up. We truly, deeply appreciate the knowledge, compassion, care, and understanding we have encountered there (including times when WE were stressed to the point of near incoherence). Based on our experience, this clinic is a mess. Five unreturned calls over a week for a distressed dog, then to be scolded by vet for not addressing issues sooner. Service quality plummeted once an annual plan was purchased. To top it off, daughter made to wait an hour at pick-up with no explanation. The clinic was empty. There are lots of vets in town, avoid this one, unless you too have been burned with the "insurance" plan. read more

My family has been working with Dr. Whaley for many years, and my boyfriend and I just got our first dog and knew we had to work with her as well. We've ran into an issue with him already and the staff have been so friendly and understanding in our worrying over every little thing he does. Small things make this place wonderful, like the fact that the staff refer to your pet as a kiddo, which just shows they know how much taking care of a dog is like being a parent, and that they really do appreciate their clients. Dr. Whaley is the most wonderful vet we've ever dealt with, and I am beyond impressed by her ability to care for our dog. Wow! What an awesome bunch of people! Her Highness (Shadow, a 6 year old Labrador) had an an absess of sorts on her ear. I was worried sick and she was hurting! I called Manzano Animal Clinic and got an appointment for the following day. I knew she was in some pain so I was glad to get her in so quickly. I waited for all of 5 minutes and then our hero entered. Dr. Sandstede (forgive my spelling) introduced herself to me and then to Shadow and then got down on the ground with her and got a better sense of the problem. She knew right away what was up and laid out the options going forward. She took Shadow off to the back, dealt with the problem and returned (in a jiffy!) with a much happier and MUCH more comfortable puppy dog! All I can say is this: If you love your dog and want a vet who will love them, too.....well, head for Manzano Animal Clinic and you'll be glad that you did. read more

After almost 40 years and 3 dogs, we have parted ways with Manzano Animal Clinic. We no longer consider Manzano an animal hospital. It is a clinic that maintains business hours Monday thru Friday, 8-6. We had to take our ailing dog in on a Thursday afternoon. Our vet was not available so we did see another excellent vet within the practice. Because Manzano is not a hospital, we had to pick up our dog at 6:00 pm and then transfer him back to Manzano on Friday morning. Our dog received excellent care and we had wonderful communication from the vet during the "clinic hours" on Thursday and Friday. The attending vet felt that our dog would need 24 hour care during the weekend. Because Manzano closes at 6:00 pm on Friday, we needed to transfer him to one of two recommended 24 hour hospitals. We selected the hospital that she said she felt had the best communication. Because of the care and communication we had received on Thursday and Friday and in past years, we MISTAKENLY ASSUMED there would be communication between our referring vet and the vet at the hospital throughout the weekend. We also thought we would have communication with our vet, if necessary. We again transferred our dog to the hospital on Friday evening. We received a call at 8:00 Saturday morning that our dog had taken a turn for the worse. They were recommending about $2000 of diagnostics. Some of the diagnostics seemed repetitious of what had been done at Manzano on Thursday and Friday. We said that we wanted to consult with our vet to determine what was needed and best for our pet. We were informed that the only form of communication they had with our vet was to send an email to the Manzano office which they had already done. We then tried calling the Manzano office as well as checking the website. There was not a Dr. on call and the only recorded and posted information we could obtain was to take your pet to one of the two 24 hour hospitals. WOW. We were totally on our own to figure out what would be best. As it turned out, our dog was going downhill fast and I don't think he would have survived the diagnostics. We lost our beloved pet on Saturday afternoon. We never received a condolence call, note or card from Manzano. We later realized that our dog's passing probably had not been communicated. From what we were able to determine, the only communication between the hospital and Manzano was the one email sent to the office on Saturday morning. We delivered a letter to Manzano informing them of our dog's passing along with our disappointment in the lack of communication. We received a "business" letter explaining that "Veterinary medicine has the highest suicide and burnout rates of the medical professions." (I am questioning if this was an appropriate response but decided it was a "business" letter.) From this they concluded the need to draw a line between their personal and professional lives. We understand and respect the need for a personal life, but the "business" also needs to provide a better means of communication and support to its clientele during stressful emergency situations outside of "business" hours such as a Dr. on call. Currently, it is at the discretion of the veterinarian to extend an emergency number and/or reach out to the emergency hospital to check on case progression. Neither of these appear to have occurred in our case. This was a very difficult time for us and it saddens and disappoints us to end a 40 year relationship this way. read more

After moving to ABQ, we "tried out" several vets over the course of our first couple of years in town. We were sorely disappointed with clinics (vets and staff) until we found Manzano Animal Clinic. We've worked with three veterinarians in the clinic over the past five or so years and have been more than pleased with all of them. Our current one, Brianna Wildgoose-Lister, DVM is fantastic. She's incredibly bright, with a wide and deep knowledge base. She explains things in an understandable and very descriptive way. She's gifted in working with people, as well as dogs and cats. We recently went through a medical emergency situation with our dog and Dr. Wildgoose-Lister, one of the the other clinic vets, and staff stayed late on a Friday night so that we could have the procedure performed at the clinic, rather than having to go to an animal hospital for surgery. read more

I was met at the door by a vet tech who immediately took my dog back to a doctor for evaluation. Dr. Terry explained his prognosis in easy to understand terms and gave me options for treatment. I liked his calm demeanor which helped me calm down as well. Their service and friendliness is amazing. I love their paw plan that allows you to make monthly payments or all at once, to cover a list of procedures/shots/visits. I have a puppy and all the initial shots and other procedures add up quick. So it's nice that I have this option here. I came here because of the great reviews, and I was not disappointed. They are very helpful and were able to assist me over the phone to induce vomiting for my 4 month old puppy who had eaten a mushroom. Which by the way worked wonders. (I put 2 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide with 1 tbsp of water in a little bowl and he lapped up a few sips, then vomited 2 minutes later. He didn't even need to drink the whole thing.)
